look, ariza is getting the best perimeter defender on him right now (shawn marion stuck on him the entire game last night). chase is getting guarded by who? if chase has a few good games as a starter, trust me, the best defender is going to be on him and he's going to be shut down. again, von wafer had a PER of 15 last year, IN THE SAME SYSTEM. he never had a PER of more than 5 in his previous years. hell, even chuck hayes has a PER of 16 this year. i am telling you, this system is helping a lot of guys' offense (if they remain in the system). you saw when guys broke away from the offense last night and they ALL looked ridiculously bad (outside of brooks), and that included chase. i hope i'm wrong, but i see an all-star when i see one, stats or not. you can just see it in how they play, even before they're good. chase is not going to be an all-star. he's going to be a starter in this league (and a very good one).
i have always been a big fan of shane. but if his defensive prowess is going down, then i may have to change my stands.
the game last night was lost...when we gave it to SHANE to run one on one plays....like 6 times in a row....I was like wtf...why are we going to him for points... Coach stuck with starters too long...I would of had Scola, Landry, Chase, Ariza and either Lowery or Brooks...Brooks depending on his ankle and if he was gonna push the ball up court
I guarantee if this was anyone else making a thread like this they would have got creamed for it. What was the point of this. And to make it worst it is on 6 pages. Probably more. Your basically saying what everyone knows already. We have no 1 to create. Guys know that already.
not for your first all-star appearance. you actually have to play like one to make it to your first all-star (make a name for yourself). after you've made a name for yourself and fans are on your side, then well, that's true.
BS. Ariza's inefficiency is not a product of having defenses keyed on him. In fact, defenses are far more concerned about stopping Brooks and allowing Ariza to try going 1-on-1, which they know is his weakness. Ariza cannot rotate and come off screens the way Budinger can. Ariza does not have Chase's midrange game. Ariza does not have the same ability to finish around the basket in traffic. None of these has anything to do with who's guarding him or the system that is being run. Again, they are playing in the same system, and Chase has been by far more efficient in the exact same role. This is a complete strawman. If Adelman's system is magically elevating everybody's production efficiency, then why has Ariza's efficiency dropped from last year? (Hate to pick on Ariza, but he is an easy target. And I really do wish the best for him ... I hope he develops into a great player and stays around for a long time.) Why has Battier's PER not improved? Why has Scola's PER dropped slightly as well? Wafer's PER last year (which was average, by the way), was a function of him getting a lot more regular rotation minutes and usage than he ever had in his career, not just because of the "system".
dude watch the game yesterday, ariza parked at the 3pt line for most of the night and marion NEVER left him. NEVER. why does ariza's efficiency decreased? that's very easy to answer ariza is the one guy who has had the adjust the most. he never had to play 1-on-1 before, adelman is given him the freedom to do that (and he's struggled). battier's PER has dropped b/c he's shane battier. he's missing shots he usually makes. that could be a sign of decline or whatever. and scola's PER dropped a point. give him more time and it'll go back up. and HE'S A STARTER. all chase does in this offense is shoot shoot shoot. he has no other responsibilities on offense. tell me when adelman asks him to do something 1-on-1 v. the starters of the opposing team and i'll see what he can do. but again, it's all opinions. to be an all-star guard in this league, you gotta have an all-around game for the most part. chase is basically a great shooter, but some ballhandling abilities. that'll make him a great starter in this league.
u want to see an all-star when you see one? look at tyreke evans. sacramento already running isos for the guy against safelosha. look at brandon jennings. the bucks are giving him the key the offense and the opposing defense all geared to stop him and he's performing. until adelman puts the ball in chase's hand and tells him, "do you thing," i don't see it happening. we're in need of playmakers right now. if chase had some type of "star" quality, adelman would know. this is a development year. he's letting ariza experiment a little. if chase had some of that quality, he would let chase experiment a little too. but chase's role is to shoot shoot shoot. again, i hope i'm wrong. if morey sees that chase has all-star quality, he would ship tracy out with the quickness.
Not attacking you DD just replying to the board in general and your post looked like a good one. What I don't understand is why we are trying to compare this team to the Lakers, Mavericks, etc. Really?? I don't understand it. This team is what it is, a team with a tremendous amount of above average role players. This team has no Kobe, no Bynum, no Dirk, etc. We are under sized every game we play. This is not and never will be any of these teams we are trying to compare them to. IMO it is what it is. Better perhaps. This team is better than most expected and I would contribute that to RA. Until we can put an "all star" on the court perhaps we should consider the expectations that we have for this team. It's a great season so far for a team that is such a work in progress. Can't wait for Morey's first BIG move !!
AB has got to learn to create more. While ariza and battier also need to work on it, its not their focus. And trading Shane right now is insane, not because he has mad skills as a defender but because he is the leader. You can't trade the stability. Until someone else fills that role, you better hope AB gets better as a make plays first point guard.
This "Battriza" character sounds like a bizarro version of Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder, Basketball Edition. You know, a Black hipster goofus with orange hair shooting corner treys and trying to dunk with his head while holding the ball in his teeth. Anyway, Chase got 24 minutes tonight. Coach A is going to keep using him and that usage is going to gradually go up. I have no idea what will happen to the rotation when McGrady can play. Air Bud has to get his minutes. Ariza has to get his minutes. McGrady's going to want to get his minutes. Shane, while having a lopsided smile on his face the whole time, is going to want his minutes. Too many guys playing the same position. At least McGrady can actually play the 2 guard spot. It'd be nice if Chase could. The other two do a good to excellent job on the defensive end, but don't have the handles you'd ideally like to have at the spot (not to mention that it's called a shooting guard!). Pretty freaky situation.
I have a feeling Adelman is going to try to get away with McGrady, Chase, Battier, and Ariza line up as much as he can (playing 3 of them at the same time). I don't know how that will work out, but whatever. As a fan, I want Chase to keep seeing the court. He has proven his value and there is no reason to yank him from the rotation. Shane and Ariza have both done well. Shane, even though he is my favorite player, is realistically the one that will have to have his minutes reduced drastically. In a perfect world, I'd trade McGrady away and roll with Ariza, Battier and Budinger since I enjoy watching this team play so much. .Even though they might not give us a chance in the playoffs it is admirable to watch them play the game the way they do. Realistically, a healthy Mcgrady will bring more stability to the wing position and relieve Brooks of being a full time play maker in the starting unit.
adelman already plays the lowry/brooks combo a lot, so i don't think he has any problems playing a tracy/ariza or battier/chase/brooks lineup. the player i think that will see his minutes reduce A LOT is shane battier. our defense is not dependent on him as much anymore b/c we're more of an opportunistic defensive team. furthermore, i don't think tracy would get a ton of minutes even when he returns (or it'll take awhile b/c adelman wants to see what lineups match best with mcgrady). even when tracy is back after a while, i see him playing 30 minutes at most. we have depth, so i don't think adelman is going to try to wear out tracy.
I do understand you're responding in a DD thread, but do you really think Budinger's handles aren't at least pretty good? Adleman has said that in the absence of TMac, Chase is essentially our 3rd string pg. Just curious what you really think here.
I refuse to write these guys and quit on them. You can do that, but this is not a year of growth, it's still a year to compete. A team that can win 50 games without it's stars is not in rebuilding mode. Sam Cassell and Robert Horry didn't need a year of rebuilding and growth to develop into stars. If they are truly going to be good, nothing will stop them. They will develop and develop even better on a competitive team focused on winning instead of a lotto team where they learn the wrong stuff.
Well Battriza was at it again. I think the Rockets really need to think about getting Chase more time. Right now Chase is our best offensive wing, he should be in there a lot more....with whomever is playing better between Battier and Ariza. Chase is a better shooter, has a higher 3pt and FG%, better rebound rate, a good assist rate...heck he is just flat out performing better than both of them. The Rockets need to find a way to lower Battriza's minutes and up Chase's....he should be in a minumum of 24 minutes every single game. We need the way he plays and moves.....neither Ariza nor Battier...excuse me, Battriza are as effective moving off the ball..... DD
