My overall advice is probably to start with the Assault (medic) class or Engineer class. I say assault b/c you can get good points throwing out med packs. Unlock the defib so you can get people back up. You start with the M16 which is a good weap. You unlock the HK 416 first and it is also an outstanding weapon. I also suggest engineer b/c they use carbines and are easy to handle, esp if you are used to CoD style gunplay. The M4A1 is a great gun for starters. If you are into using rockets as anti-personnel stuff, there's that option. Also, pick up guns from dead people. Since you won't have any unlocks to begin with, start learning what each class kinda looks like, and you can pick up kits from dead people. They will have some things you don't, so the "disadvantage" won't be so much. You really aren't at that much of a disadvantage with little to no unlocks. Play smart, help your squad, learn the nuances of the game along with the maps, you'll be fine. Chances are you'll suck at first (maybe not), but it'll come around. There's tons to tell you, but we'll try to keep it in smaller chunks
I'll remember that and try it out. Sounds good then. I was thinking C4s, support class, kinda like that guy in that video. Looked like fun. Going to start with Assault and get the defib first(maybe/maybe not?) then probably switch around to some of the other classes. Just hoping I can get a copy before they're all gone.
Hey man, if you want to go support, go for it. You can give out ammo, and your team will love you because for whatever reason, ammo is hard to come by. Med kits are more abundant on the battlefield. If you like using LMGs, go for it. C4 is a blast though, you are right. Playing hide and seek with tanks to try and get in range to throw C4 on them, and STILL run away to detonate...FUN! Remember, takes at least 2 C4 packs to take out a tank.
And two C4 still isn't a guarantee. You need three if you want to make sure it blows up. And the Amtrak vehicles actually take four.
Now here's some REALLY good info on the guns, on par with the BFBC2 charts: BF3 Damage Charts, Stats, and Mechanics Doesn't look like they've added reload times yet, that's the only other thing I'd like to see here. After looking at this, the one thing I'm reconsidering is AEK-971 over F2000. The chart seems to suggest that the F2000 is a little more accurate when running and gunning, but that the AEK-971 might actually be better when stationary. It's also convinced me to stick with the A-91 over the G36C, which is the way I was leaning anyway.
One big question maybe someone can answer here. I have a 3mb connection that I get basically for free but its not the fastest in the world... pretty crappy really but runs fine on some games like Gears of War? Some other games lag at times. Will I be ok for BF3 for the Xbox or will it lag a lot? Don't wanna get it if I can't run it online of course. Anyone here running the game with little problem online with a similar crappy DSL/wireless connection?
Man... Scar vs A-91 vs G36C has been an annoying problem for me. For some reason I like the G36C, I think it reloads faster.
Anything over 1.5mbits should be fine. Before I switched to Comcast's 15mbit I had AT&T's 6mbit and 3mbit. I don't remember having troubles at all for either ISP package.
He actually just added reload speed to the chart, and you're right, the G36C reloads faster than both the SCAR and A-91. The interesting thing that I didn't know is that apparently you reload faster if you still have bullets in the chamber. I must remember that.
I tried out the A-91 per recommendations and the damage chart. It has too much horizontal drift. I think I'll go back to the G36c.
Maybe a noob question but do I have to install both game discs to my xbox hard drive for the high resolution texture pack or was that what installed at the beginning???
I play on PS3, there have been times where my connection was worse than that (a little over 1.5 mbps) and it's played just fine.
Man Assault class is tuff or it's maybe just me. Getting my ass kicked trying to unlock the damn M416. I'm better off with support. I already unlocked the IR scope for the M249 and it is beast. The recon class is my 2nd fav. I got the SV98 now, more power than the SV but it's a bolt action :/ Engineer class is the one I use the least.
To me m249 is horrible. The only good use it have is taking out the whole squad from the back unnotice. One on one it feels like it has no chance against other classes other than maybe a recon but the c4 and claymore is fun to play with. I use c4 when I'm attacking. Comes in handy when taking out tanks. I like using claymore when defending. Easy kill when planted behind the door way entering the mcom station. Playing the ump with support until I unlock the m60. Hopefully the recoil is manageable than the m249. Stick with the assault until you unlock the f2000. Beasty of a gun when playing TDM
It seemed like everyone that was killing me was using the F2000. I did finally get the M416. Now gonna work on getting the mortar. For the M249, I like it better than any other weapon I unlocked so far. It gets the job done. But the jets and attack helicopters... Having a hard time trying to get the heat seeking missiles. It's really hard trying to shoot down enemy jets and heli's.
The M249 is possibly the best support gun at extremely long ranges since it has relatively little recoil... easier to put more bullets on a target far away. However, it doesn't compete with the other support guns you unlock in terms of power, so it suffers at mid-range. I've seen people stay with the M249, just depends on how you like to play. I too had a tough time with Assault to start out, mostly because the guns seemed to have a lot more kick than I was used to in BFBC2. The chart I linked too doesn't back me up on this in terms of the raw numbers, but as soon as I got the M416 I did a lot better. It seemed much easier to control to me. Stick with it, you'll get there. For the recon... as I said, I find the semi-auto rifles more useful in general than the bolt-action ones, because you can pump three or four shots anywhere into someone's body to kill him... whereas the bolt-action ones you basically need a headshot or you're screwed. And getting headshots is hard to do without a bipod, which requires 30 kills to unlock for the bolt-action guns. I didn't even bother unlocking stuff for the bolt-action rifles until I got the M98B at the very end, since it's clearly better than the others. I prefer to put a shorter scope (like 3.4x or 4x) on the semi-autos, I do pretty well that way. I don't use engineer much either. And when I do I'm often in a tank, so the points go toward the tank rather than the engineer class. Definitely was the last class I finished unlocks for. But they've got some nice guns, actually easier to control and use than the assault's. And there are situations when you'll want to repair an allied vehicle, or shoot rockets/missiles at an enemy vehicle, so I do use engineer every now and again...
