Hey Manny, I got Dark Side of the Moon, and I liked every track on it. I guess it might be nice for you to know that all your support for Floyd has garnered them another fan. They made some of the wierdest stuff I've ever heard - I don't mean that in a bad way, some of it is just so out there, ya know? I'm currently working on the Wall. I guess I'll get those 2 CD's and then a compilation if they have one. What's the best one, Manny?
I actually got those cds from my manager at work just last week as well, and I love them, the stuff is out there, but I think its sweet.

how, exactly, is AC/DC better than Led Zeppelin??? i cant believe people actually think AC/DC is a better band.... i like AC/DC, dont get me wrong - even though all their songs sound pretty much exactly the same - but they dont hold a candle to Zeppelin on any level. especially Zeppelin from 1969-1973.
Brilliantly said. I love AC/DC but they're not even on the same planet in terms of overall greatness as Led. Also, it's not just AC/DC that doesn't compare, but every other band there's been.
Great list. I think the most glaring omission from this list are the Kinks. I will put them in the same class as the Who. The Pixies and Talking Heads were also superb and deserving recognition. I think the lack of bands like The Temptations, Sly Stone and the Family Stone and Booker T & the MG's speaks to the limitations of this KLOL playlist field.

Good points, B Money... The Kinks are right there withe the Who and The Sones, and at one time I liked them better than both. I saw them at the Music Hall for their 'School Boys in Disgrace' tour. What really surprised me was how good brother Dave was. The Kinks are Very cool. As to Sly, The Temptations and Booker T, I must plead a serious lack of attention to an important chapter in Rock/soul history. Would you care to reccomend a particular lp? I will get it, if so. Lastly, upon reflection, the Byrds should have been in my sweet 16.

Okay sorry for getting delayed - this test took longer and then I had Internet problems (looks to have been a temporary problem). david_rocket, I am sorry but you didn't get your votes in before the 9:30 deadline so they don't count. Vote earlier (if you can) in the next round. Fatty, You have said some outlandish stuff before but AC/DC better than Zeppelin? That might be the topper right there. rockets #1, If you like DSOTM, go onto "Wish You Were Here" next. That was the follow-up and has some of the same atmospheric songs that DSOTM had including the Shine on You Crazy Diamonds, Welcome to the Machine, the bluesy Have a Cigar, and the great ballad title track. Then if you still want some more, go to "Animals" before "The Wall". I can NOT stress how important that is. It will cause you to enjoy "The Wall" much more if you get "Animals" first (which is my personal favorite of all the Floyd albums). Will tally the votes for this round in a minute.
Finals for the Sweet 16: The Beatles 54, Van Halen 14 The Doors 48, The Eagles 19 The Rolling Stones 52, Soundgarden 16 The Who 35, Nirvana 33 Led Zeppelin 53, AC/DC 14 The Ramones 39, CCR 28 Pink Floyd 39, U2 28 Queen 47, The Police 21 Will do the Elite Eight right in a little bit.
-Sly and the Family Stone had a few great albums- "There's a Riot Going On," "Stand," and "Fresh" are the big three. The Essential Sly Stone and the Family Stone is your option if you want to go with a greatest hits collections. -Booker T & the MG's were an instrumental band. They did stuff like "Green Onions," "Time is Tight" and "Hip Hug Her." I know you've heard them a time, or two. They were basically the backing band for the Stax label (Otis Redding, most notably). "Hip Hug Her" is a super album, but I would definitely go for the Rhino greatest hits collection of them....they rule.
I've never cared for Led Zeppelin. I had several friends in high school who tried to get me to like them. I find them annoying, and they hardly have any songs you can simply rock to or get pumped up by. I think Pink Floyd is overrated, also. However, you have said they are your favorite band. AC/DC was my favorite band in high school. The fact that they had platinum songs from 1976-1993 says a whole lot more than Zep's 69-73 whopping run. To call my take outlandish is what music afficianado snobs typically woud say, so I'll take your comment with a grain of salt. In my opinion, however, AC/DC runs circles over Zep's 4 year run any day of the week.
You don't think "Rock and Roll", "Moby Dick", "Whole Lotta Love" can get someone pumped up? I will give you that Zeppelin had a lot of songs that were somewhat mellow-like but they could rock out when they wanted to. AC/DC was great but they could NEVER in their wildest dreams come up with a track like "Achilles Last Stand" - the drumming that Bonham does on that track is f*cking insane and Page layers and layers guitars on top of each other. And sorry but your take is OUTLANDISH and I doubt that I would be the only one to think that, especially considering how the board voted. I mean, dude, it wasn't even close. So, I guess they are "snobs", too? And Zeppelin did not end in '73 - arguably their 2 best albums came after '73 in "Houses of the Holy" and "Physical Graffitti". You not knowing that or acknowledging that tells me all I need to you know. The bottom line is you like whoever you want, but respect needs to be shown to the greats and Zep is one of those greats and you dissed them.
I'm with you Fatty. AC/DC are the kings. Give me them, Ramones, Queen, KISS ... all over Led Zeppelin. Any time your entire catalogue gets played over and over on classic rock stations, you know you're boring.
Dude, I grew up on 101. I've listened to just about 3/4 of every song written by them. I feel they are overrated. I always have. Zep is simply too mellow for my tastes. They conciously try to make their music "sophisticated", and I've never liked them. I'm done. Different strokes, I guess.
Stairway to Heaven does not equal whole catalogue. Or Freak, it could mean that those stations know they are classics. Seriously, some of my favorite Zep songs are ones I NEVER hear on Classic rock stations like "In the Evening", "Achilles Last Stand", "Tea for One", and "No Quarter". rockets #1 - where are you?
