Thanks for asking R #1 Of course, it was always inevitable that the sweet 16 would be a classic rock station play list of bands, but I've seen so many posts on diverse and obscure bands here I had hope the list would be at least a little less predictable. For sure, many of the bands I will list in my own private sweet 16 were never given the chance to be voted upon in the 1st place, so....... Oh yes, I really have enjoyed the tournament and want to thank Manny for putting it together (after all, I too wish to obtain access to the inner circle ) THE BANDS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN THE SWEET 16 : Velvet Underground Big Star The Replacements Mott The Hoople The Smiths The Beach Boys The Flaming Lips Roxy Music The Who Built To Spill The Buzzcocks Genesis (w/ Gabriel) The Flamin Groovies Iggy and the Stooges MC5 Bad Religion

1) The Beatles 3) The Doors Bracket B: 12) Soundgarden - my one dark horse vote. Stones will win, but I like Soundgarden better. 2) The Who - Even Kurt Cobain would have voted for the Who. Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 7) The Ramones - I hate CCR Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd - I own 2 Pink Floyd CDs. My U2 CDs are burned. Damn, why couldn't have U2 been pitted against CCR? 11) The Police - Queen is campy fun, but the Police were actually brilliant at times.

Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 4) Van Halen Although the 1984 concert was my first, I still have a much greater appreciation for The Beatles than I do for Van Halen. Since 1984, it's all been downhill. ... 3) The Doors 2) The Eagles At least this winner will be snuffed soon... Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 12) Soundgarden Listening to Hands All Over right now... Anyone else remember hearing Michael Keaton giving Matthew Modine the beatdown to this song in Pacific Heights? Downright creepy... 6) Nirvana 2) The Who I love The Who... really I do. Tough call... Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 4) AC/DC Too many bad recent albums by AC/DC make this one fairly easy for me... they still rocked pretty hard though. 11) CCR 7) The Ramones It's been said before in these threads, but when you only use 3 or 4 power chords to write 95% of your songs and build a legacy like the Ramones have, you just plain rock. Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 4) U2 I hate Pink Floyd and that damn light show crap. 11) The Police 2) Queen Another one bites the dust. That song was written for such occasions as this.

i'm just as young as you, but i know good music when i hear it. sit down and check out some albums from a few of these "old foggies" before you dismiss them; there is a reason why some of these bands are considered the greatest of all time. the popular music of today absolutely blows IMO.
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles *** 4) Van Halen 3) The Doors *** 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 12) Soundgarden *** 6) Nirvana *** 2) The Who Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin *** 4) AC/DC 11) CCR 7) The Ramones *** Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 4) U2 *** 11) The Police 2) Queen ***
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles*** No real need to justify this one. 4) Van Halen 3) The Doors 2) The Eagles*** I just like more songs by the Eagles than I do the Doors. Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones*** Another "no contest" here. 12) Soundgarden 6) Nirvana 2) The Who*** They are just a better band in my opinion and I'd rather listen to Townsend's guitar and Daltrey's voice over Cobain. Plus The Who had Keith Moon in the band. . . Keith Moon. Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin*** Can you guys name another band that played the blues as hard rock? These guys were just insanely good. 4) AC/DC 11) CCR 7) The Ramones*** Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 4) U2*** When I hear people talk about Floyd, I only hear 2 albums brought up. Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall. Dark Side put me to sleep the first time I tried listening to it. Plus, they screwed a bunch of little kids out of royalties on Brick in the Wall. How lame is that? U2 on the other hand has quite a few beloved albums and fans who debate time and time about which era was better. Plus they are my favorite band and only the Beatles and Led Zep can knock them off in my opinion. I think they've crossed into Stones territory. 11) The Police 2) Queen***

No Yes?? You need to listen to "Animals" - that won't put you to sleep. Although I don't see how anyone can go to sleep during "Time" with all the clocks going off and then Gilmour's searing solo. LOL, about the kids - didn't know that they wrote the song along with Waters. However, they probably needed some kind of compensation and I wouldn't be surprised if Roger stiffed them.
