Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush 4) Van Halen 6) The Cure 3) The Doors 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) REM 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS 6) Nirvana 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 11) The Police 3) Metallica 10) The Cars 2) Queen
This is amazing. When I am picking which one I am picking it based on how good their stuff is to me, the impact they've had on music (positive and negative), and whether or not I would like to pop in one of the CD's on the way home from work on any given day in 2005. That being said... These bands are worth a damn. 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses 8) REM 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS 6) Nirvana 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers2) Aerosmith 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 11) The Police These all suck. 1) Pink Floyd 3) Metallica 6) The Cure 3) The Doors 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles 1) The Rolling Stones 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 2) The Who 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones 5) Rush 4) Van Halen 10) The Cars 2) Queen
I was with you on the bands you approved of, but then you lost all credibility after you said suck. It's fine to say you don't like them. But no way, does Led Zep ever suck. NEVER. Then, you list, the Who, Metallica, CCR, etc. No...
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles - choo choo ka chu 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush - musically, heads and shoulders above VH 4) Van Halen 6) The Cure 3) The Doors - music that defined their era 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles - I really don't like either of these Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones - these guys are legends while REM is the most overrated band of all time 8) REM 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS - the KISS army rolls on! 6) Nirvana - they changed music forever 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who - groundbreakering and innovative Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin - this is your champ right here 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath - the founders of heavy metal 4) AC/DC 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - you could make a case for either, but CCR gets the nod 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones 2) Aerosmith - I'm not a huge fan, but their career and influence has spanned 30+ years Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd - wtf is depeche mode even doing in this contest? much less moving on to the 2nd round? 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam - PJ is a personal top 5 fav band - their live shows are unequaled 4) U2 11) The Police 3) Metallica Both are good, just Metallica is better 10) The Cars 2) Queen - no contest
I agree with your point, but you think AC/DC sucks??? You've only listened to Back in Black, You shook me all night long, and Thunderstruck, haven't you? Growing up, this was my favorite band, period. We're in agreement on most others, though. Exchange Depeachy Mode with AC/DC and I can live with it. My bands that are worth a damn: 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS 6) Nirvana 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) Aerosmith 5) Pearl Jam 11) The Police 2) The Eagles 2) The Who 4) AC/DC 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones 5) Rush 4) Van Halen 2) Queen These all suck: 8) REM 8) Depeche Mode 4) U2 1) Pink Floyd 3) Metallica 6) The Cure 3) The Doors 7) Grateful Dead 1) The Rolling Stones 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 10) The Cars That's my list using those parameter's.
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles **** 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush 4) Van Halen **** (Anybody but Rush) 6) The Cure 3) The Doors *** (we'll give it to the old guys) 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles **** Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) REM **** (stones are another band I recognize as great -- but just don't do it for me...) 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS **** well, why not. 6) Nirvana **** (how does Tom make the list as a band?) 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who **** Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash *** 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC **** 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) ***(have had an easy ride so far...) 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones ***** 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd **** 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 ****(wish I had a cool name like Bono or Edge) 11) The Police **** 3) Metallica 10) The Cars 2) Queen ****[/B][/QUOTE]
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush 4) Van Halen 6) The Cure 3) The Doors 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) REM 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS 6) Nirvana 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 11) The Police 3) Metallica 10) The Cars 2) Queen
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles - Guns and Roses was a one-album wonder. The Beatles were a once in a lifetime band. No contest 4) Van Halen - Only because the DLR years were so much fun 6) The Cure - Hard call, but the Cure has proven to be more influential and have lasted longer. A case where I wish both bands were in different brackets 7) Grateful Dead - I hate both bands and their crappy fans, but the Eagles are the epitome of Southern California narcissism. Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones - Another hard call, but the Stones had a longer streak of classic albums 12) Soundgarden - The best of the Seattle bands. No band plays off-time riffs with more groove than Soundgarden. 6) Nirvana - Tom Petty is the most cliched and reactionary artist on this list. He should be paying royalties to the Byrds. 2) The Who - too easy Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash - TIE. Both bands had great music that was brought down just a bit by the vocals (Plant wrote stupid lyrics, the Clash guys really couldn't sing) 4) AC/DC - Just by an atom. Both bands were sublime with their original lead singers, but AC/DC managed to put one good album out with the replacement. Sabbath sucked as soon as Ozzy left. 3) ZZ Top - ZZ Top is from houston and experimented more. 2) Aerosmith - The rock genius of Toys in the Attic and Rocks are this band's saving grace - everything else is pretty lame. Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd - easy 4) U2 - easy 11) The Police - What the hell? Why are great bands paired against each other this early. Both bands have the same number of great albums - 3. But the Police didn't write all their songs in E. That's the advantage. 2) Queen - The Cars were a one trick pony, although that trick was very good. Plus Brian May has the coolest guitar tones.
Whatever you are smoking, can I have some? LOL - you do know that Blink 182 (one of your favorites, if I remember) idolized one of those bands that you think "sucks" in The Cure?
I guess I should start explaining my choices in this round. Bracket A: 1) The Beatles***Sorry GNR, but the Beatles are the best, period. 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush 4) Van Halen***I don't know enough Rush songs to accurately guage them, I know that they are great musicians from what I've heard. Van Halen is just too badass though. Of course, VH III gave Rush a chance to beat them. 6) The Cure 3) The Doors*** Not even a contest. I like the Cure, but you can only take so much mopy depression songs. Though I'd rather hear those songs than the standard "I hate my dad" stuff that permeates the airwaves today. 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles***I think they just have more better songs. Maybe if the Dead had said more about Houston besides "too close to New Orleans" Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones***No explanation needed. "Hey! Hey! REM! REM! Get off of this bracket! 8) REM 12) Soundgarden***This is a hard one, but I think a lot of KISS's songs are sophomoric. And I also believe in counting everything they did, so the 80's count. That's right, Crazy Nights, Psycho Circus, Let's Put the X in Sex, and Forever (written by Michael Bolton) all counts against them. 4) KISS** 6) Nirvana 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers***I don't think Nirvana's impact has been as big as people say. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are also one of my fovorite bands of all time, so it's kind of hard for me to vote against them. There's a reason Tom Petty got to be in a side project band with Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Bob Dylan. 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who***Great band, simple as that. Great songs and even though they are talented musicians, there wouldn't be punk music without them. They weren't talking about my generation, I wish mine had a band like these guys. Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin***This one makes me want to shoot myself. But If I want to play, I have to go through the agony. Zeppelin rocked harder than anybody ever has. All of those bands who think they are hard today, they're just turning they're amps all the way up. There's no finnese. 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC***This is a toss up for me, but I just enjoy more AC/DC songs than I do Sabbath. 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR)***Another tough one, but I'm a little confused as to how ZZ Top is seeded so much higher than CCR. 3) ZZ Top 7) The Ramones Abstain, Sorry. 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd*** No contest 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2*** Another tough one, but U2 just produced so many great songs. Songs that appeal to many people, from music afficionados to top 40 only types. 11) The Police***I can't really explain this one, but I don't even listen to Metallica before the Black Album. Not that I haven't listened, it just isn't my taste. 3) Metallica 10) The Cars 2) Queen***No contest.
So many good bands gone, so many lame ones remain. Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses Will be nice to see this joke band go. 5) Rush 4) Van Halen Awesome that this matchup worked out this way. This was the great junior high debate. And I was always on the geek side of it. Still am. Match The Who with the Stones and I'll take The Who too. 6) The Cure 3) The Doors Both overrated, but at one point I actually cared about The Doors. 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles I don't have any affection for either. Deadheads wear me out and I spent more time with The Eagles as a kid, but they don't wear well and the long time gone from real Dead shows allows me some sobriety about this. The Dead was a better band. Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) REM REM was really good, but the Stones were really great. 12) Soundgarden 4) KISS All the way to the top. 6) Nirvana 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Really tough one. I like both bands a lot, but Nirvana's gigantic. I find the whole 'who influenced more bands' thing tiring and irrelevant, but for my money Nirvana was the last great rock and roll band and Cobain was the last great rock and roll star. 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who I had a girlfriend in college who loved RHCP. So I broke up with her. Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash LZ's better and I love them, but The Clash has my heart. And Zeppelin will win this anyway. 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC Better vs. has my heart again. 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) ZZ Top I don't much like ZZ Top. I do much like CCR. 7) The Ramones 2) Aerosmith My favorite band still in the poll. Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) Depeche Mode Depeche Mode must die. 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 Ugh. I vote against both bloated and boring bands. 11) The Police 3) Metallica This isn't about Sting the solo artist. We're allowed to leave him out of the accounting, right? 10) The Cars 2) Queen Okay, I lied. The Ramones are tied for my favorite band still in the poll.
Bracket A: 8) Guns N Roses 4) Van Halen 3) The Doors 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 12) Soundgarden 6) Nirvana 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 5) Black Sabbath 3) ZZ Top 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 8) Depeche Mode 4) U2 3) Metallica 10) The Cars
My thoughts exactly....a fuction of matchups (plus some of y'all ain't got no taste ). THat's what makes this interesting...
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) 5) 4) Van Halen 6) 3) The Doors 7) 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) 12) Soundgarden 4) 6) 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) 2) The Who Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) 5) Black Sabbath 4) 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) 7) 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) 5) 4) U2 11) The Police 3) 10) 2) Queen

Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 4) Van Halen 3) The Doors 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 6) Nirvana 12) Soundgarden 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 4) AC/DC 3) ZZ Top 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 4) U2 3) Metallica 2) Queen
There aren't more brackets?? OK. Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) Guns N Roses 5) Rush 4) Van Halen 6) The Cure 3) The Doors 7) Grateful Dead 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) REM 12) no vote 4) no vote 6) Nirvana 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) The Who Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) The Clash 5) Black Sabbath 4) AC/DC 11) Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) 3) ZZ Top (tough vote... I've followed ZZ Top since they were the Movin' Sidewalks, and saw them open for the Doors. but they sold out) 7) The Ramones 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) Depeche Mode 5) Pearl Jam 4) U2 11) The Police 3) Metallica 10) The Cars 2) Queen (another tough one...
