yea...I thought that a a touch silly myself....I dont see it. to the poster who doesnt know who Thin Lizzy was... The Boys are Back in Town is a song that has been used in more movies, commericals and toher things than just about any song I can think of. If you like good hrd rock...explore them...they are actually better than Kiss...they just dont have the catalog.
Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 9) Bon Jovi 5) Lynyrd Skynyrd 13) Thin Lizzy 11) The Beach Boys 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 10) Deep Purple 2) The Who Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 9) The Band 12) The Sex Pistols 4) U2 6) Fleetwood Mac 3) Metallica 7) Motley Crue 2) Queen
I won't argue with the others but Hootie sounds nothing like Pearl Jam. Never have, never will. I'm not sure where that comparison came from. New Hootie album out in July. Bringing back the CRV producer too, cough, cough It's Darius. Hopefully he'll use the $750,000 he made off of it to promote the band now that they're independent. For those who haven't seen it, here's a screen cap http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/jpm0016/hootie_burgerking.jpg
Ohhhh, alright. Yeah, I have that song, but the person I had it from had it classified as the wrong artist. Thanks for the clarification. There's no better music than hard rock, so I'll check 'em out.

I almost voted for them, R2K. Should have... they rocked in the '70's. I can't stand Kiss. Manny, can I change my "no vote" for either to Thin Lizzy?
The Rolling Stones R.E.M. Soundgarden KISS Nirvana Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Red Hot Chili Peppers The Who Pink Floyd Depeche Mode Pearl Jam Radiohead Fleetwood Mac Blondie The Cars Queen
no doubt....they were one of the top rock bands on the planet when Phil and Gary were together...RIP Phil...
Sure, but I don't think it is going to help their cause. Update through KingCheetah's picks: Rolling Stones 55, Cake 6 REM 43, Bon Jovi 17 Soundgarden 33, Lynyrd Skynyrd 27 KISS 44, Thin Lizzy 16 Nirvana 31, Beach Boys 28 Tom Petty 49, B-52's 11 RHCP 47, Deep Purple 13 The Who 56, Collective Soul 4 Pink Floyd 59, Goo Goo Dolls 1 (leave it to Hydra to ruin the shutout ) Depeche Mode 34, The Band 26 Pearl Jam 32, Sex Pistols 27 U2 43, Radiohead 16 The Police 41, Fleetwood Mac 19 Metallica 43, Blondie 16 The Cars 33, Motley Crue 25 Queen 47, Green Day 13 If these results hold true to form, then we are going to have some very interesting 2nd round matchups such as The Police vs Metallica, RHCP vs The Who, and Soundgarden vs KISS. Don't forget to get your vote in before the deadline of 10 a.m. tomorrow morning if you hadn't voted already.
Thanks. I really don't care about the winning and losing part (right! Depeche Mode over the Band? Are they crazy?!?), but it's fun to express your opinions. Some of the matchups are bizarre, but since I didn't do it, how can I complain?
It is not that I hate Depeche Mode - I have 2 of their greatest hits albums and "Violator" and "People Are People" is one of the greatest '80s songs ever. But those guys can't even hold a candle to The Band - I mean The Band wrote "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down" for crying out loud. Oh well, it is their loss, I guess.
Time to own up, y'all. You obviously have no idea who The Band is. There is NO other explanation. Let me try and help. Here are three Band songs you know like the back of your hand and probably love and you apparently (somehow) have no idea they're by The Band. There are probably a few of you who actually know who The Band is and are STILL voting Depeche Mode. Shame on you for that, but there's no accounting for taste. Even more disappointing the rest of you (obviously) have no idea who they are. This is a Texas message board for crying out loud. Here you are and you're welcome in advance. THE WEIGHT I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead; I just need some place where I can lay my head. "Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said. (Chorus) Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free; Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me. I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide; When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side. I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown." She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around." (Chorus) Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day. "Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?" He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?" (Chorus) Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog. He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog." I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man." He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can." (Chorus) Catch a cannon ball now, t'take me down the line My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time. To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one. Who sent me here with her regards for everyone. UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go? Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie, girl that I once knew She told me just to come on by, if there's anything she could do Refrain: Up on Cripple Creek she sends me If I spring a leak she mends me I don't have to speak, she defends me A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one Good luck had just stung me, to the race track I did go She bet on one horse to win and I bet on another to show The odds were in my favor, I had 'em five to one When that nag to win came around the track, sure enough she had won (refrain) I took up all of my winnings, and I gave my little Bessie half And she tore it up and threw it in my face, just for a laugh Now there's one thing in the whole wide world, I sure would like to see That's when that little love of mine, dips her doughnut in my tea (refrain) Now me and my mate were back at the shack, we had Spike Jones on the box She said, "I can't take the way he sings, but I love to hear him talk" Now that just gave my heart a throb, to the bottom of my feet And I swore and I took another pull, my Bessie can't be beat (refrain) Now there's a flood out in California and up north it's freezing cold And this living on the road is getting pretty old So I guess I'll call up my big mama, tell her I'll be rolling in But you know, deep down, I'm kind of tempted To go and see my Bessie again. THE NIGHT THEY DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN Virgil Caine is my name and I served on the Danville train, Till so much cavalry came and they tore up the tracks again In the winter of sixty-five, we were hungry, just barely alive By May the tenth, Richmond had fell - it's a time I remember oh so well The night they drove old Dixie down, and all the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singing They went "La, la, la-la, la, La, la, la-la, la-la, la-la, la" Back with my wife in Tennesee, when one day she called to me "Virgil, quick, come see, there goes the Robert E. Lee." Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good. Take what you need and leave the rest, But they should never have taken the very best." (Chorus) Like my father before me, I'm a working man Like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave I swear by the blood below my feet You can't raise the cane back up when it's in the feed (Chorus)

Well I'm not a Rock fan by any means, but for some reason I've followed this thread and suddenly developed an urge to contribute by making some of these races closer. So here goes: Cake Bon Jovi Lynyrd Skynyrd Thin Lizzy Beach Boys B-52's Deep Purple Collective Soul Goo Goo Dolls The Band Sex Pistols Radiohead Fleetwood Mac Blondie Motley Crue Green Day
oh yeah let's not count moe's vote against Pink Floyd because he only listens to douche music and his opinions are not worthy. Well you can cram it with walnuts, ugly.
I like it! It's pretty clear Soundgarden will be the Cinderella team in this tournament. I haven't looked at all the other matchups that closely, but it seems they are the only bad seeded 12 and below that will win. They beat Lynyrd Skynyrd with ease, so they should have no problem whatsoever taking care of KISS. That is one of the more unfortunate losses, indeed. They haven't got as much play as they deserve, so really yeah, most people don't know about them.
Topic 1 : I hate the Band and love Depeche Mode, so F off, preachy taste-arbiter. That's one of many problems with the Band. First, the horrible name. Second, horrible sound. Third, preachy preachy preachy. Sprinkle a little whiny with the worst of electric folk hubris on top. Mix it all together and you get nasty. Topic 2 : Thin Lizzy - My Woman from Tokyo! Deep Purple - Space Truckin' note the proto-David Lee Roth howls and shouts for musical punctuation. Brilliant. Can't think who does that now. Maybe Rob Zombie.
Quit your crying, Eminem boy - I told you that I counted your votes. Just not the way you intended. Batman, I have had "The Weight" in my head for the last 2 days - great, great song.
