The mystery poster must be in his mid 30 like I am. Way to many hair bands on this list.

    Bracket B:

    1) The Rolling Stones ***
    16) Cake

    8) R.E.M. ***
    9) Bon Jovi

    12) Soundgarden

    4) KISS
    13) Thin Lizzy ***

    I hate KISS.

    6) Nirvana
    11) The Beach Boys ***

Tough choice. Both bands are better than KISS, Tom Petty, and Metalica.

    3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers ***
    14) The B-52's

Petty only win cause hes up against a really bad band.

    7) Red Hot Chili Peppers ***
    10) Deep Purple

    2) The Who ***
    15) Collective Soul

    Bracket D:

    1) Pink Floyd ***

Not a big floyd fan but they win due to a first round bye.

    12) The Sex Pistols

    4) U2 ***

    3) Metallica ***
    14) Blondie

    7) Motley Crue
    10) The Cars ***

Posers vs. mediocrity. I'll go with mediocrity.

    1) STONES BABY! its them vs. beatles - bank on it!

    8) rem - only bon jovi could make michael stipe seem straight in comparison

    12) soundgarden - LOUDER THAN LOVE!

    4) kiss - did thin lizzie ever make a movie about a haunted amusement park? ...i think not.

    11) beach boys - that’s tough too - pet sounds/smile wins

    14) b-52's - love tom, but b-52's were bigger influence on me growing up.

    7) chili peppers - pre-first-time-fruciante-quit only. they shouldnt have quit doing smack.

    2) the who - collective soul on here??? even bon jovi would beat them.

    D
    1) floyd - the goo goo dolls??? Sorry, but UUGGHH

    9) the band - roots rock vs. synth pop. DM was bigger influence growing up, but their music really didnt age well for me.

    12) sex pistols - the fact that a ramones rip-off that only put out 1 badly recorded album could win just shows how little i think of pearl jam.

    4) u2 - this is the toughest of all - they would both be in my top 5, but in the end id go w/ u2.

    11) police - one of the greatest trios ever!

    14) blondie - why oh why couldn’t lars and cliff have traded bunks for just that one night!

    7) the crue - glam-satan defeats new wave.

    2) queen - green day is good, but this is an easy one.

Some of these choices are brutal. Some are pie.

    Bracket B:

    1) The Rolling Stones
    16) Cake

Easy one. Manny, why'd you lobby so hard for Cake only to set them up for a sure loss?

    8) R.E.M.
    9) Bon Jovi

Easy. Bon Jovi is a joke.

    5) Lynyrd Skynyrd
    12) Soundgarden

What's with all the grunge? Is A-Train from Seattle?

    4) KISS
    13) Thin Lizzy

KISS is so great that their angular 'S' should be added to the standard keyboard. It's a shame to spell their name with this nelly, curvy 'S.'

    6) Nirvana
    11) The Beach Boys

This one is impossible. I'm voting for both. Abstain me if you have to, Manny.

    3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
    14) The B-52's

    B-52's give me a migraine.

    7) Red Hot Chili Peppers
    10) Deep Purple

    2) The Who
    15) Collective Soul

    The Who rules.

    Bracket D:

    1) Pink Floyd
    16) The Goo Goo Dolls

    8) Depeche Mode
    9) The Band

The Band should make the final four. Alas, they will not.

    5) Pearl Jam
    12) The Sex Pistols

    So easy.

    4) U2
    13) Radiohead

I don't care about either of these bands, but U2 gets on my nerves.

    6) Fleetwood Mac
    11) The Police

Both great bands, but few rock harder live than The Police.

    3) Metallica
    14) Blondie

    Love me some Blondie.

    7) Motley Crue
    10) The Cars

    2) Queen
    15) Green Day

Another final four contender in my book.

HOW do I vote for Thin Lizzy but not Pearl Jam/Sex Pistols? It's pretty simple actually. I just type my vote and that's that. When I abstain, I type "ABSTAIN."

Now if you're asking WHY I voted/astained the way I did, I don't know. Maybe I was just hoping to rile someone up.

Since you used a profanity directed at me, your votes do not count for this round.:p

Actually, I will go ahead and accept your votes since I defined "lower" being actually lower such as "1" is lower than "2".

    "Har-har!"

    Through Batman Jones' picks:

    Rolling Stones 40, Cake 5
    REM 33, Bon Jovi 11
    Soundgarden 28, Lynyrd Skynyrd 16
    KISS 34, Thin Lizzy 10
    Nirvana 24, Beach Boys 19
    Petty 38, B-52's 6
    RHCP 35, Deep Purple 9
The Who 43, Collective Soul 1

Pink Floyd 44, Goo Goo Dolls 0
Depeche Mode 23, The Band 21
Pearl Jam 23, Sex Pistols 20
    U2 33, Radiohead 10
The Police 34, Fleetwood Mac 10
    Metallica 34, Blondie 10
The Cars 24, Motley Crue 19
    Queen 34, Green Day 10

You don't know how long and hard I thought about moving The Band to the Rolling Stones bracket. Gonna suck to vote against them in the next round IF they can beat Depeche Mode.:(

    Bracket B:

    1) The Rolling Stones
    16) Cake
I don't like them (the Stones) nearly as much as everyone else, but I can't stand that attempt at music Cake tries to put out.

    8) R.E.M.
    9) Bon Jovi
Do that many people like Bon Jovi? I'm not complaining about the bracket setup but I see them as being a 14-16

    5) Lynyrd Skynyrd
    12) Soundgarden
Grunge is my favorite kind of Rock. It's great to see a good band get an "upset."

    4) KISS
    13) Thin Lizzy
Who's Thin Lizzy? Never heard anything by them.

    6) Nirvana
    11) The Beach Boys
When one thinks of Rock in the 90's Kurt Kobain will be one of the first things that comes to mind. One of the most influential bands of the 90's, again Grunge is great.

    3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
    14) The B-52's
This is the most bizzare matchup to me. I had no idea that many people liked Tom Petty or that the band was that highly regarded. I can't believe B-52's even made this list. They are Pop, not Rock, least to me.

    7) Red Hot Chili Peppers
    10) Deep Purple
I don't know much beyond "Smoke On the Water" for Deep Purple, but RHCP is one of the best of the 90's.

    2) The Who
    15) Collective Soul
I like some Who stuff, but I like Collective Soul a lot better.

    Bracket D:

    1) Pink Floyd
    16) The Goo Goo Dolls
I'm not too big on Floyd, but Goo Goo Dolls don't deserve to be called Rock.

    8) Depeche Mode
    9) The Band
    The Band is just better.

    5) Pearl Jam
    12) The Sex Pistols
I don't think I've ever heard anything by Sex Pistols; I need to do something about that. Once, again there is the Grunge factor for me.

    4) U2
    13) Radiohead
I don't get the following of Radiohead at all. Not even close.

    6) Fleetwood Mac
    11) The Police
    Sting just ANNOYS me.

    3) Metallica
    14) Blondie
You can't rock much harder than Metallica.

    7) Motley Crue
    10) The Cars
    I don't like either. ABSTAIN

    2) Queen
    15) Green Day
I hate this. Green Day just might be the most underrated band ever, in my opinion. I own all 129 original songs they ever made. Top 5 band for me. They are way more then just "When I Come Around" "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" "American Idiot" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Oh, they ARE SO MUCH MORE!
They're not pure Punk, more Punk Rock, but nonetheless, I consider them the best Punk band of all-time. They are not Pop; do not freaking tell me that. Queen has a big following around here - I don't get that; they were just a little before my time, I guess.

You didn't miss much. The sex pistols and P.I.L. were OK, but mostly screaming. Not my cup o' tea. Think Green Day 20 years earlier.

I believe Pearl Jam had as much influence on 90's music as Nirvana did. How many other bands since have tried to emulate Eddie's voice?

Didn't miss much, eh? That's good to know. I immediately thought of this quote:
Felicity Shagwell:I want to see how the 70s and 80s turn out.
Austin: The 70s and the 80s? I've looked into it. There's a gas shortage and A Flock of Seagulls. That's about it.

I'm totally with you On Vedder's voice. He is one of the better ones, in my opinion. Nirvana isn't that much better than Pearl Jam in reality, but I tend to like Nirvana much better.

I am impressed that you voted for The Band over Depeche Mode, but VERY dismayed at you voting for Collective Soul and also dissing both Queen and Radiohead. ;)

    Seriously,

I know you like Led Zeppelin more than any other band in the world. Being a big Zep fan, I think you would really like The Who if you gave them a chance. Start with "Who's Next", easily one of the 10 greatest rock albums ever and then go onto "Quadrophenia" (the last 3 tracks - "Doctor Jimmy", "The Rock", and "Love, Reign O'er Me" might be the 3 greatest ending tracks I have ever heard on an album). You will get hooked on them like I did. Trust me.

I think what band's tried to emulate from the whole "Seattle Scene" was the rawness all the groups from there had at the time. They all probably had that sound because they all were in and out of each other's band's at some point. There is a great scene in the movie "Hype!" where a guy shows a six degrees of seperation chart of Seattle music and you see how they all worked with each other at one time or another. Personally, I still listen to Hammerbox and Mudhoney much more than Nirvana, Pearl Jam or Soundgarden.

But at least 5 popular bands have been Pearl Jam wannabees:

    STP
    Hootie
    Creed
    NickelBack

And those are just off the top of my head.
