Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 16) Cake This is really no contest... and I opened for Cake once in Boston... they kinda sucked. 8) R.E.M. 9) Bon Jovi Peter Buck plays Rickenbackers... Richie Sambora sold his. 5) Lynyrd Skynyrd 12) Soundgarden Not really a fan of Southern Rock. 4) KISS 13) Thin Lizzy Kinda tough, but I was Gene Simmons for Halloween three years in a row in elementary school. 6) Nirvana 11) The Beach Boys Such a weird match-up... Gotta go with the Beach Boys even though they did team up with the Fat Boys once. And there are Rickenbackers involved... always a plus. 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 14) The B-52's Gotta go with Tom. More Rickenbackers involved. 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 10) Deep Purple 15 years ago, my answer would have been different, but as soon as Anthony started "singing", RHCP started going downhill... I don't like the "mature" RHCP. 2) The Who 15) Collective Soul No contest. Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 16) The Goo Goo Dolls Despite the fact that I can't stand Pink Floyd, at least they'll leave behind a whole catalog that I can't stand... no one will remember the Goo Goo Dolls in 20 years. 8) Depeche Mode 9) The Band I don't expect DM to make it far beyond this round. 5) Pearl Jam 12) The Sex Pistols It would have been nice to see the Sex Pistols' first shows in Texas... 4) U2 13) Radiohead Another interesting matchup, but I gotta go with Radiohead here... 6) Fleetwood Mac 11) The Police Maybe if I knew more early Fleetwood Mac, it would be closer... 3) Metallica 14) Blondie Despite being total dorks about file-sharing, not that I do that sort of thing, Metallica mops the floor with Blondie based on the first 10 years of their career. 7) Motley Crue 10) The Cars What would 5th grade have been like without the Crue? 2) Queen 15) Green Day Brian May and Freddie Mercury whoop ass.

with all due respect, but how can you vote for Thin Lizzy but then declare that Pearl Jam or Sex Pistols aren't worthy to be voted on?
Okay, a couple of things: moes, I don't mind people abstaining on one, two, or even three matchups. But I can't let you abstain on THIRTEEN!! However, I did get an email from A-Train who wants me to give Cake a token vote for him but yet he didn't vote on any of the other matchups. Since this thing was his idea, I'll give a dog its bone. Noticed he posted the other day - wonder why he just doesn't post in this thread? The U2-Radiohead matchup, now that I really think about it, was probably the WORST matchup drawn up of any of these bands. I have 7 U2 studio albums and 2 GH compilations, but I also have every Radiohead studio album (6) plus a live one. It is too bad that 2 great bands like this have to square off in the first round, but oh well. Too late to change it now. Got to thinking about tiebreakers....at first, I thought that whoever I voted for would win the tiebreaker, but I thought that was a little cruel. The tiebreaker will go to the lower seed. Example, let's say that The Who matches up against the Rolling Stones in one of the later rounds and they tie in number of votes. The Rolling Stones would win because they are the lower seed (lower in this case actually meaning 1 is less than 2 and 2 less than 3, etc.). I will do an update a little later on this afternoon.
