It is extremely unlikely that any future Astros owner will experience the level of success that Jim Crane has.
"I guess we'll never know" We should resign Bregman just for that speech alone. That's right up there with Rudy's "never underestimate the heart of a champion" and Bum's "next year we're gonna kick the son of a b**** in" speeches.
My guess is the Astros are sold some time between 2027-2030. He'll be in his mid 70s. I just don't know if he will want to go through another rebuild.
Looked pretty stupid when the Rangers won the trophy and threw that **** back at him (and the Astros). I prefer they don’t talk smack before the job is done and then pay for it like fools.
The dynasty can last another 5 years with proper trades and continuing development within the farm system. Just gotta keep this pitching staff together. I knew they would start coming around when Pressly started pitching better. He was terrible at the beginning of the year and their record reflected that. They blew so many late leads. My only question was had they dug too deep of a hole.
True, but they've got the pitching to win another championship. They just need a couple of guys to get hot outside of the top 5 in the playoffs like Pena did a couple of years ago. I'm guessing those guys most likely will be Pena, Hayward, Caratini.
You would think that about average pro team owner, but Crane loves baseball. It's not just a business for him.
My hope is that somewhere in that time frame Crane sells a significant portion of the team to a Luhnow-type who operates as minority owner and POBO, with Crane’s son standing to inherit Crane’s primary ownership and work alongside the POBO. Crane can stay involved until he’s too old to function, and the idea would be that toward the end he’d go balls out dumping money into payroll to get one last ring before he croaks.
In a perfect world, Yordan is able to play LF and Heyward is able to play CF. Unfortunately, it looks like that won't happen. Without that, in the OF, the Astros only have Tucker and Heyward vs RHP, and Tucker and Meyers vs LHP that have average or better bats. The trickle down is that Chas, Dubon, or Meyers will need to play CF vs RHP which leaves Caratini on the bench. Vs LHP Meyers can play CF but Dubon or Chas will need to play LF. Both are good over their careers but bad this year. Caratini/Diaz is the best 1b option. The issue will be when Kikuchi starts, if it's vs a RHP and they want Caratini to catch, Diaz will need to play 1b moving Singleton to the bench if Yordan can't play LF.
We have 77 post season wins overall. All AL teams Yankees 241 Red Sox 103 Oakland A's 85 Guardians 60 Tigers 57 Orioles 54 Royals 40
This recent injury for Yordan while running the bases and his lack luster effort in LF (which might make a bit of sense if Yordan was purposely trying to avoid injury while fielding) has convinced me that there is more downside than upside for playing Yordan in LF.
I think the average owner loves the sport he is in. Most bad decisions owners make are out of passion for the game (not wanting to rebuild).
I agree, but my comment was specifically about the 2024 post season where the OF bats beyond Tucker and Meyers/Heyward, in a specific platoon, are very weak.
How many pro sports team majority owners played their sport at a high level- Jim Crane in college is one. I just don't think that's a very big field of owners who are intimately familiar with their sport like Jim Crane is.
