but adelman did start scola in place of chuck after 10 games or so that year. can't say jvg would necessarily do that. and you can sense that budinger is getting the green light, too; and not every rookie gets that.

It's finley!! Michaell finley...at 50 he'll still have more athleticism than the average 30 yr old. He's declining, but he started way higher than battier on the athleticism ladder, even at 37 he's still higher. Age isn't going to affect your ability to dribble the ball, just how fast you can do it, and you don't need to dribble fast to be effective...using him as an example is another sign of being high :)

Being high on life is not too bad. It's really fun. You should try it.

You don't have to be athletic to create space or be a good ballhandler. Redd is a terrible athlete amd before the knee injury, he could create space and squeeze a shot off. Becoming a good ballhandler can allow a player to create space also. Knowing how to speed dribble along with a inside out dribble does wonder when getting a shot off. At 6'8 and long arms, he can shoot over alot of people. Dont underestimate shane as a athlete, understimate the time he puts in improving.

You're right, you don't have to be, but that's the example you gave...Redd can dribble well and his shooting form works in his favor because he shoots further back than most and therefore doesn't need a lot of space. We've all seen shane have trouble just crossing over with the ball, even when he dribbles upcourt he doesn't look very natural. There's plenty of athletes out there who can be athletic freaks on the football field, but they can never get their shot down or even dribbling even after years of playing ball. Shane has some athleticism, i just don't think it's the kind that excels in basketball. Athleticism doesn't always transfer across all sports.

Redd isnt a great ballhandler either, but he can create space like reggie miller could. Reggie wouldn't break the defense down from the 3pt line, but he could use a rocker step and squeeze. Look, we're not gong to agree because you think shane is a terrible athlete and is a overachiever and i think he's a better athlete than he displays but he's content in his role and doesnt want to improve. He's a nba player, former #6 pick traded for the 8th and is on the slippery slope to being bruce bowen minus the 2 dribble pull up.

you're right, we're not going to agree, but your examples aren't going to convince anyone else either. Redd is a better ball handler than shane with a quicker trigger and higher release/form. Reggie was a master at running off of picks and he had a true jump shot with a quick trigger. They have nothing in common with Battier as far as basketball mechanics go and they're good-great scorers.

I see the problem this way, battier and ariza are both spot up shooters, but ariza is trying to see if he can shoot the ball off the dribble, battier knows his limitations and does not jack up shots, so ariza just took his shots

======>Ariza is bocoming another low-p volume shooter now, kind like tmac............

I'd have to agree that Battier isn't producing very much on offense this season, mainly due to the fact that we don't have a go-to guy that can create open shots for him (Like Kobe did for Ariza).

I would still keep Battier because no one expects us to do anything this year anyway. Next year, with Yao returning and T-mac's contract coming off the books, we may make a move in the offseason and become a dominant team again, and Battier will be an important part on both offense and defense once more.

Battier has always been an offensive liability, the only difference is that normally we'd have someone capable of making up for it (t-mac, yao, etc.) this year, he's not getting the open shots that he normally gets and he has to put the ball down on the floor from time to time and drive which is something we're not used to seeing him do. I'd say wait until t-mac comes back and see how Battier does coming off the bench and then go from there.

Battier is who he is, he has got his goods and his bad. I hope I can share the same optimism that you have, but I don't believe he can stay at the same level now, let alone doing better. You got to check his age.

Some Battier fans are just like the people who holds their unperforming stocks even when seeing the crash is coming, thinking "what if the stocks rise again after I cut loss"?

Yes, and his streak as a Rocket needs to end so the Rockets can have a legit starting center.
