That's always fun to watch yes, but also Yao isn't posted up.

    Any ways my point was
Also every superstar has a go-to move, and every now and then the defender plays it perfect and makes a great play on it.

Kobe's go-to move is a simple mid range shot, contested or not it doesn't matter. Ariza blocked one of those shots, but it doesn't negate all the others he made.

After Game 1, Grant called Shane.

    *ring* *ring*

    Shane: Hello, Shane speaking.
Grant: Why, hello, Shane. Did anybody ever tell you that you sound white on the phone? Hee hee.
Shane: Aww, shucks, you know me.
Grant: Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Hee hee.
    Shane: So, what's new, buddy?
Grant: Well, umm, Kobe owned me. That stuff you showed me didn't work at all.
Shane: Hahaha... yea, I know. It doesn't work for me either. It's just good in theory and makes broadcasters notice you. It helps me meet my intangibles quota since I can't do much else.
    Grant: I see. I see.
Shane: Anyhoo, I'm having a karaoke event at my house later this summer. I'd love it if you could join us.
Grant: Swell idea. I'll hit you up next week after we get swept.
Shane: Haha... I hear you. Talk to you soon. Later alligator.
Grant: Hee hee. Bye bye, Shane.

Battier may have gotten his hand much closer, on a more consistent basis, but I still don't think it was too effective ... Kobe was still runnin' around yellin' "I'm F**king big! You can't stop me!"

Unfortunately that image is going to be stuck in my brain forever ... I think it was the same thing he was yellin' to that girl he allegedly raped ...

The block he did to Shaq IMO was worse, he Hit Yao in the face on that one...on the Shaq one he got all ball and Shaq, realizing that his manhood has been taken and that he should consider retiring actually fell down from the block.

Kobe is going to remember this too, every year they bring this up about how Shane plays Kobe compared to everyone else. Kobe will torch us next year again.

    I hate to do this...

Just drains it, as if he wasn't even there.

5 page essays are a bore. Maybe a 5 slide powerpoint, with pictures, would be much more effective.

I wonder if Grant and Shane were to run for the same political position, who would win? Both seem like such articulate, great guys.

Battier does a great job against Kobe, but Kobe is just that great of an offensive player. If you go back to last years playoff series, you will see that Kobe averaged less assists and less free throws and a huge reason for that was that Battier was cutting off any passing angles and Battier also forced Kobe to be a jump shooter. Kobe hardly drove against the Rockets in that series and every single shot he took was pretty much contested. It's like the saying goes though, "better offense beats better defense".

actually, if you bother understanding his theory, you'd understand that it works more often then you think-- with Yao Ming in the equation.

Remove Yao, and duh, Kobe is going to get to the hole.

Please leave "black mamba" alone. The dude kills everyone and he's the only player in the NBA like Bird or Jordan that we cringe when he gets the ball with the game on the line.

I hate saying this, but in that 94 ft rectangle, there is no one better in the NBA.

DWade, Lebron, Melo and the rest should thank Kobe for their 2008 Gold Medal against Spain. Go check it out on YouTube. 3 point play, 4 point play, assist for 3 from Dwade, and then 2 free throws.

Not to e critical, but much like anything else done by captain greatness, its overblown. Dumars used to do the hand in the face to Jordan. Dont trust my word, go youtube the bulls v pistons and you will see. I dont have a problem with the accolades battier gets as a defender, but its not like kobe didnt get his regular season stats against him. So you make kobe shoot contested jumper vs getting to the line, it doesnt matter. Guys like kobe always shoot contested shots. When dream was lighting up robinson,it was good defense. Great offensive players trump good defense. The best way to defend kobe is the same way the pistons and celtics did. They made kobe run through picks and chase rip and ray to the tune that he wasnt resting on defense. Hill is a better offensive than shane, but kobe still can coast guarding him. When he guards shane, he's really catching up on rest

agree with everyone Battier's D on Kobe is overrated. Also it looks like whatever Battier was doing Hill is also doing the same since he got lit up yesterday just like Shane always does.

MEHHH.. 5 pages worth of crap notes that shane shared. Best D on kobe is to rough him up and get him frustrated. But then again there really isnt much anyone can do. I think Durant probably is the best defender on Kobe now with his long arms.

Seriously???? hmm i wonder wat makes him have a bad shooting night. It's probably not the constant amazing defense. Ya i bet those nights when kobe still drops 30-40 points on battier he prolly has very small FGA......

i dont understand how people can b so ignorant as to why the EXPERTS always give props to Battiers defense when kobe still drops high point totals.

Hill just doesn't have the mobility to guard Kobe. I don't doubt Shane would send a 5-page tip to Hill. They are both cerebral players. But you have to have the physical tools to execute your defensive plan. Hill is just 10 years and a trillion injuries too late for this task.

For those who say Battier's defense doesn't really work against Kobe, please tell what does better.

Both Batman and Grant Hill should pull a Mall Rat; stick their hand in their ass a couple of hours and then stick it in Kobe's face. I wonder if there is an NBA rule against that?

Because when you're guarding a player like Kobe, the point is not to try to keep him at 7 or 8 points(which is impossible) the objective is to get him to shoot as many difficult shots as possible and not share the ball.

Battier: Hey Kobe, I took a dump during half time.
Kobe: Is that right... good for you I guess?
Battier: I also forgot to wash my hands. I hope you don't mind. :p
