This is why battier will never be traded. He is a leader of men, he sets the tone and professionalism in the lockerroom.
This thread is why battier is overrated. When we win he gets all the credit. Hakeem was traded so stfu with the "he is going to finish/retire a rocket."
Why not just make shane our defensive coach on the bench in a suit with the rest of the coaching staff he's got to be the most unproductive starter in the league outside of his 1 or 2 charges a game.
Battier is a god amongst men. With every breath he takes the earth is covered in more and more wisdom. When his sweat hits the ground it nourishes the soil. His flatulence is not only captured and marketed as a cologne, but it provides enough energy to power a small nation. His powers can never really be quantified though since they're intangible. Lebron James is nowhere near enough to even get the Rockets to contemplate moving Battier. He is the one that provides balance to the force. He is Neo while the rest of you live in the matrix. He sees and does things no one else can even fathom. He knows what's going to happen long before it occurs, but does nothing in order to not upset the balance of power in the NBA. A true humanitarian and selfless in every sense of the word. He is worth 20 lottery picks. There will never be another like him. A god amongst men.
That's just an excuse the organization uses, to make up why he has such low numbers in the boxscore, but the real reason is he just sucks I mean can understand if he was really shutting down people, but he still gets torched.
He's not the first or the last to do stuff like this, but the fandom in posters thinks he is. Kenny used to tell sam he had to be a better practice player. Sam wasn't getting run early not because he didn't have the talent or brooks was better, it was sam thought he could loaf through practice and still show up to play. Kenny stayed in sam's ear all the time despite sam being drafted to take his place. There was hardly internet, but no one said this is why he shouldn't ever be traded or let go despite helping the rox 10 times more than shane ever has or will.
I think the results of putting him on Baron Davis in the Warriors game is a decent, and recent, example of why you are big misguided.
Defense is more like a passive action and nobody could guarantee 100% lock down defense on any given elite players. For Shane, he's carrying more load of our offense than he used to while one of our two superstars still play, he has to put up those 3s and penetrate the paint to rip the opposing defense. If he had focused himself totally on the defensive end, he would have had a better performance instead of poor production on both ends.
He knows where he should be at per possession and could break down the defense in his head when it comes, if he's on the bench along with coach Adelman, he can't react to the sudden, emergent situation that's tricky to handle. On-court teaching would help our young players alot and gain a better understanding of team defense instead of individual defense, they would get the hang of where they should rotate.
there's no problem with the thread itself....it's good to watch what goes on in practice, how posters take it is a different story and that may be why battier is overrated by some, but not because of this thread.
Have you taken a good look at the league outside of Houston? There are a TON of starters that are less productive or beneficial to their teams then Shane even with his offensive inconsistency. Shane at least plays an elite brand of defense against the best the NBA has to offer and while it doesn't always come up in box scores, a lot of teams would probably trade for Shane if we offered him up on the block. Technically, in a season or two, he probably won't be a starter because he appears to be losing his speed but for now, he is an excellent addition to any team that needs an elite defender.
