he doesn't have to guard those guys EVERY night. a guy like tracy has to carry a load offensively EVERY night.

why do you think we haven't heard of any role players retiring or struggling with injuries? we've only heard about allan houston, chris webber, jason kidd, amare, jamal mashburn.

That is basically what T-Mac did and now he has an excuse for not doing anything until his contract runs out.

How anyone would think a basketball player would rather take a high risk surgery on his knee in order to avoid playing basketball is really beyond me.

Who cares? It is not an apples to apples deal, Battier made the right choice for himself and so did Tmac.

Let's move on and cheer for the team against Cleveland.

I agree DD whatever happens with T-mac and the Rockets is in God's hand now. God knows how we are going to deal with him. Judging from previous articles he might have even settled it with everyone who knows.

or they are just doing the press cover. But just concentrate on the current i rkn

Thats not the point...the point is that he still has to play against the best in the league...he still has to fight through the pain to guard the opposing teams best wing player. Regardless of how you want to cut it, he has to play through pain.

Youre right, you dont hear about role players struggling with injuries because nobody cares about them. That doesnt mean that they dont exist or have to endure less pain.

This topic is completely irrelevant to anything.

He's been in the league like 10 yrs already, at this stage he's already had a NBA career, he's not jeopardizing much. Remember basketball isn't really his passion and i'm not saying it to hate, it really isn't. Everyone knows tmac only loves baseball. Basketball was his ticket to fame and fortune and he's got that already, he's set for life. His kids, family, set for life. Even if he retires today he's had an above average NBA career, he's got a scoring title, records, all star appearances, etc. He's ot going to lose any sleep over not having a ring or a second round appearance. I think that's is why he did go for surgery, because if he doesn't come back from it won't cost him his future like it would at say, 20 yrs of age. If they "fix" him, then great, if they dont, he's still going to live the same life at home.

Battier's cartilage was wearing away at the ankle joint, when this starts to happen it forms bone spurs, which can cause pain, which is what troubled Battier last season. He had surgery to clean up/remove the bone spurs.

Both he and tmac have cartilage missing, perhaps battier's is only wearing away, while tmac was missing a certain area, but either way both technically have cartilage missing.

and bad psoture/alignment also causes cartilage to wear away, so i'm sure tmac had some extra wear from his younger days before they "fixed" his back......and since i believe scoliosis can't be cured by bone manipulation (popping his back into place), then the wtich doc didn't cure his scoliosis, just gave him a tune up, so if his back is still not straight then he's still misaligned, which means he's going to continue to wear out certain joints faster than he should be.

To this day i've never heard of tmac using any orthopedics, braces, etc, anything to correct any minor misalignment issues he may have due to his condition..why that is I can't understand.

It's unfortunate that Battier's lack of athleticism has led to such a steep physical decline. It's especially unfortunate for the Rockets and their fans since a lottery pick was given up for him while the team was in "win now" mode. The team won nothing while Battier has been a no show in the post-season for practically his entire career. I wonder what the Rockets could actually get for Battier. They certainly can't get a lottery pick.

umm, they can't get a lottery pick for him because the team sthat actually HAVE loterry picks SUCK, as in no in a win-now mode. They are rebuilding and therefore wouldn't need a guy like Battier. The Rockets were an exception since they only sucked due to injuries and that lead to the lottery. If Boston would have had injuries last year and ended up in the lottery, i'm sure they would seriously consider trading for Battier if they had a mid to high lotter pick.

Well what can the Rockets get for a physically declining player who has no offensive abilities besides the corner 3, can't dribble a basketball, and disappears in the post-season?

I was under the impression Shane's decision not to have microfracture surgery was made in the offseason, not midseason. As was Tmac"s. Only difference is one can deal w/ the pain and one cant and chose surgery. Funny they should mention it now. I cant figure out if its a shot at Tmac or P.R. control

The surgery does risk him anything, but the real thing does is his mental softness.

Battier still has 2 year contract left. Expect Battier in&out of the lineup in next 2 seasons becoz of a sore ankle.
