Not just quickness, but Ron Ron gambles on defense, is not as disciplined to fight through picks, and takes possessions off at times. To me, putting Battier on Roy would've been a no-brainer.
Well go somewhere else dudeee if your gonna act like an idiot and start bashing everyone no one wants you here
Battier should be the main defender with artest guarding him while battier is taking rests. I feel like the style of battier's defence suits skillful wingplayers like roy and kobe more than artest's physical and close up defense style. Artest's defense is perfect for guys like lebron and carmelo.
Now i am beginning to see why Battier is a BETTER defender that Artest and why Rick Adelman put him on Kobe rather Artest. The reason is Artest is a gambler and take risk...he got burned constantly. On the other hands, Battier play it safe and still behind his man. I thought tonight's game was a good game. It could have gone either way imo. Portland just duck this one...they knew they almost lost it.
Ron really looked like he had a hard time sticking with Roy off those pin down screens and pick and rolls. He gave up too much separation.
Haha, pairing Durant with Roy would have made those dumbasses a legit contender for many years. Instead they took a foul prone oaf in Oden.
Why Adleman went back to Artest guarding Roy down the stretch is beyond me when Battier was doing a better job. I hope Adleman learns from this error.
It seemed like both Artest AND Battier were getting torched by Roy. Neither of them have the foot speed to recover when they are slowed down by a screen or he gets a step on them. It's also the responsibility of the bigs to protect the rim. Most decent guards in this league can get by their primary defender with today's rules. As far as what to do next game, I honestly think we need to try starting Von alongside Battier or Artest. Von is the only guy that has the quickness to fight around screens and keep up with Roy. Yes, I know Von is inexperienced and that he is prone to mental lapses on defense but I'd like to give it a shot. I don't think he could do much worse than Artest or Battier did tonight and we can always revert back to our normal strategy if it doesn't work out. Bruce Bowen had incredible lateral quickness in his prime. Battier and Artest probably aren't even as quick as Bowen is today. I'm not saying that either of them aren't stud defenders. Both of them are. But neither of them have the quickness to stay with some of the quicker perimeter players like Roy, Kobe, etc... even with help coming within the team defense. Other than Brooks, nobody in our starting lineup is above average in terms of speed for their positions so they can't do much to help when Roy gets by Artest or Battier. I say start Von or let him come in and try to slow down Roy the next time Roy starts going off on us. I doubt anybody will agree with me but I really believe it's worth a shot. If we can just slow down one of Roy and Aldridge, we have a very good chance of winning this series.
artest tried too hard in trying to pound roy. He doesn't deny roy the ball as effectively as battier. Not only battier bothers you when you have the ball but he also bothers you when you don't have the ball.
Because Battier is in foul trouble, or maybe Battier is tired cause defending Roy is indeed a exhaustive job
this was the case in game 1 as well. shane is much better at fighting through screens. since most plays run for roy involve a pick, to me it's obvious that it's better to put shane on roy full time instead of ron.
