Albatross?? That's for you know who sitting on the bench in thousands $$ suit with the fat contract. Actually, we have 2; it'd be nice to throw them both overboard so we can get the fierce bald eagle named Lebron.
prob because he's a low turnover, high FT %, and decent blocks guy..that's probably three of your categories, his assists haven't been bad, so that's 4...doesn't shoot enough to hurt your FG shooting % and if you're counting threes made instead of %, well he's made like one in i think 25 consecutive games.
This statement indicates that Yao is the one who is actually "beasting". It's kind of like saying "Scottie Pippen is a beast with Jordan dominating on offense." (For the record, I hate the use of "beast" as a verb in any sense.)
The problem with Battier is that somehow, he is or only key to landing good players. Asuming no one wants McGrady, and that we will not trade Yao. Then he is the odd man out. So if he is not clicking it comes down to see if we can find another veteran voice in the locker room (Scola is the only one that comes to my mind) and if we can find a good trade partenr, because we are not going to trade him just for trading someone. I think his on court performance can be replaced as of now.
Yao does a great job defensively for the most part. He isn't a constant big blocker or a lightning fast rebounder but you can't really shoot over Yao when he is in front of you and he forces the other team and its players to have to move away or try to seal him off. I think the poster meant that Yao makes it easier for Battier because where ever he is positioned at usually keeps the other team moving away from him causing more difficult shot selections from a certain interior range.
I thought it was telling that Battier found it surprising that he wasn't traded this summer. He isn't stupid. He doesn't fit this team well, especially with Ariza beside him. Morey has said that he seriously considered trading Battier this summer but was afraid they would need him as a glue guy and as a leader. Morey also said that he's well aware that Battier doesn't go too well with Ariza. Battier is very likely going to be moved either this season or during the summer, but only for the right player. Until then, he and the rest of the team will try the best they can with the team they have.
Damn, my bad. How the heck did I miss that? Anyways, I'm sure mods will delete/merge accordingly. Thanks
I think Shane, himself, believe that his "intangibles" are so much that he never bothers to do the things that actually show up on the stat sheet.
It is more the fact that he never has been that sort of player since coming into the NBA. JVG got him because he has been the sort of player that could cleanly hurt a team's star player. The problem of course comes when a team doesn't have a Kobe or Lebron in which its offense is solely based around. Shane can do a lot, especially with other guys helping him on the other end but if the team as a whole can't maintain its defense on every player then you can't lock Battier as the weak point. Granted, I myself think if McGrady comes back, Battier is likely the one to first hit the bench if Tracy is placed in the starting line up. But that is mainly because you would want to see if Ariza's the future and Shane seems like he wouldn't take the demotion so critically as others.
Battier Equilibrium Deficiency I love the guy, but what's up with his inability stay standing up? He falls down every play. Maybe it's effective... but annoying as hell.
