I disagree. Cbud was a toy to Jamal Crawford on many occasions. There's a reason why he didnt get to play as many minutes as you and I would like him to play - his defence is shaky. Try putting Cbud on either Johnson or Williams ... bet they will get career nights... considering the level of defence Cbud played tonight.
You miss the point. All Battier is required to do is box out. If he does that, than he has done his job, no matter how many boards he gets. People used to be impressed with McGrady's rebounding. It was really Shane, Chuck, Rafer's box outs that let Tracy grab all those boards, and it was Tracy not doing his job, but getting the statistical glory...Than we got to the playoffs and his lack of boxing out killed us in close games against the Jazz. Meh.... This is one of those intangibles...
His intangibles are important, but the bottom line is we aren't likely to win a championship anytime soon. He needs to be on a better team than ours. I agree with DD,if we can get Rudy Fernandez for him,it will be a good deal for us in the future.
Battier is the key player balancing the Yin and Yang on this team. His role is to do the little things to make the team better. His leadership, body language, work ethic, and competitive fire is invaluable to this team, especially to the young players. Keep him and see how it goes when Yao comes back. You got to keep what's valuable to the team in the big picture, not just the stats.
are we talking about defense or offense? Offensively shane has been below average, tonight specifically also bad overall offensively, but although i agree he's slower defenisvely, he actually did well on that end tonight, so i wouldnt say this is his worst game of the year. There was a game where he was bad on both ends, i think dallas...tonight he stayed in front of JJ and turned him into a passer early on, unfortunately the guys he passed it to scored..
it's what i've been suggesting all season, but some seem sure he'll be gone this year or benched....makes more sense to at the very least let the others learn from him and then, if by mid next year it's still not working with a healthy team, you can trade him as an expiring..
ah, that's who it was, i thought it was Williams scoring on bud, but it was Crawford, that's when adelman took him out..
I taped the game on two DVRs (I always do that. now that they frequently have both broadcasts, I can watch it from "both angles" and see how the other side views it) and I'll watch it again. I was thinking both ends, but I'll watch the game again and look for the defensive impact he had. Actually, I finished watching the game maybe 20 minutes ago, so I'm late to the "party," or wake, whatever. I just didn't think he looked good at all. Maybe I missed something. I'm a fan of Shane's and don't have an "agenda."
It will help with the developing of our guys but it amounts to delaying the inevitable,ie the re-building of the team IMO.
Trade this guy while he has value. He is a offensive liability, and is declining badly on defense. We need a big, sorry Battier.
Battier has a career superstar level plus/minus for a reason. I think his deficiencies are way more evident to the untrained basketball eye. That being said, we knew this team was going to struggle offensively when Shane Battier and Chuck Hayes are on the floor together. Add in Trevor Ariza whose ball handling skills and shot selection makes Ron Artest look efficient by comparison, and you've got a team that is winning half of their games based on sheer grit and determination.
we have Yao people, Yao!! you don't throw away a rotational player or his trade value for a one year rental...
I know! But we also need a backup center for Yao. Przybilla would be a perfect fit on our team and would be a great backup to Yao.
What could we possibly get for him? He's only of use to contenders, none of which are inclined to give us any big pieces. No harm in keeping him for his leadership, unless you guys think he seriously hurts our championship expectations.
T Mac got an assist after he drove in and kicked it out. It wasn't really T Mac though, it was the guy who took the ball up the court who actually created that play.
