I like Hill but he has some of the worst hands on a big man I have seen in a while. It's bad enough that he can't catch bounce passes or passes in traffic. That is one physical limitation that will keep him from being an All Star.
I think he was speaking more to the fact that Battier has looked noticeably slower and more inept on offense this year than in years past. He's definitely lost a step.
Something which has disspointed me. Rockets knew Yao was done for atleast a season, if not longer. They knew McGrady was not going to play any meaningful games as a Rocket again. They lost Ron Artest. At the same time, they knew they would hand over the team to a young Aron Brooks. They brought in a younger Ariza to replace Artest. They were looking for young pieces for a broken down Mcgrady. They knew they were going to play rookies and young players. Battier just did not/does not fit in the Rockets long term plan. By the time Rockets will have rebuilt to contend, Battier will be riding the downhill slope, which has already begun btw. I dont see the Rockets being in contention anytime soon. The way it stands they will be a good-very good team even when yao comes back (and if by some miracle he stays healthy). Battier had the best value this past off-season and he should have been packaged with Scola to net a a young sub-star/star or assets. Rockets are holding on to depreciating assets.
what will happen is more highlight real. btw, man. i thought batteir would just miss the game tonight. now the game at the thnder. who will guard KEVIN DURANT???????????????
What is with the discontention with Battier. I guess most don't understand intagibles, but yes he is losing a step. Battier's leadership and general attitude bring a lot to the table. I'd take him over Ariza for the next couple of years. I just don't see where all the hype over Trev is coming from. Don't hate the guy, just don't see it. He's a glorified role player.
I agree, but I figured it is because he now has PG's who create and can make difficult passes into the post and in transition. I thought it was more a product of him just getting used to having new teamates, not so much an indictment on his hands or ability to catch a pass in traffic. I guess time will tell.
I personally like the team that we have this year. I would just get rid of jefferies and cook to get a descent back up center. This team looks promising with yao in the starting line up. Without any star power on this team we still in the picture for a playoff run. I say keep battier and see how it goes next season and trade him before the deadline of next year if things are not looking good.
Jordan Hill has the potential to be very good. His footwork in the post, the release point on his hook and his freethrow shooting alone indicate he has the ability to get a lot better on the offensive end. Maybe a 17 and 9 guy in two to three years.
Hindsight is 20/20. Nobody knew if Brooks was up to the challenge. Nobody knew if Bud would play as well as he has. Nobody predicted we would get Jordan Hill. Battier is important to the Rockets mentality. He is a stable locker room presence and mentor. His value may have just gone down but you can't underestimate the value he's had on a very young team. Nobody knows how much his attitude alone has helped the Rockets this year. I'm guessing it's more than zero.
Time has grabbed him; he played well but his contract is one year to long. We need his money (capspace) for Scola this summer .
Morey may have tried to trade Shane, but no one wanted his skill set relative to his contract cost. Morey could well be caught in the same trap until the next February trade deadline comes along.
Some of the "dancing on the grave" attitude from a few here in response to Shane's injury is a bit disgusting.
