    Battier

    John Hollinger on PER

"Bear in mind that this rating is not the final, once-and-for-all answer for a player's accomplishments during the season. This is especially true for players -- such as Bruce Bowen and Jason Collins -- who are defensive specialists but don't get many blocks or steals."

    keep trying though.

the team has always had a hard time scoring, brining in another 20ppg guy is not hurting the team

This guy was a starter on a championship team. He is tough and has attitude. I would love to see him on this team.

LMAO, what's up with our Steelers, both sides of the rock need to bet better. We need to be 4-2 after the next 3 games.

Can you guys start putting "Trade Idea" in front of trade ideas you just thought of.....Readers scrolling through the title might for a second think that it was an actual trade...or at least have to click on it to find out. This way, we don't have to click on it at all if we don't want to be reading random trade ideas.

    No. Way.

Battier is the better shooter and defender. Jackson is the better scorer and is more athletic and versatile.

Battier has the more professional attitude and a clear grasp on the team concept. Jackson does not.

    Battier>>>>Jackson.

Are you serious? It was your side that brought up PER in the first place. Lets just recap this little exchange:

Come on guys, you're making it hard to have a rational debate here.

2-1 if he plays. Possibly 3-0.

Normally i'd be against sidetracking a thread but this topic has been beaten to death. The posters that have sense and a good pulse of the team know this isn't a good idea. It's the same 2-3 stubborn posters that support this idea. One of them has two bars yet isn't even capable of winning an argument with himself let alone with the intelligent posters he tries to mix it up with.

Over the past four seasons, Jackson averaged 52 games played. During that same stretch, Yao Ming, of all people, averaged 59. Shane Battier averaged 75.

For four more years? At 9 million per? No thanks.

Whoops, I split his 06 season. He still missed a lot of time though.

First of all PER is not a be all and all rating. PER measures the efficiency of a player when he has the ball, i.e. his offensive usage as compared to his productivity. We all agree S-Jack is a high usage player, he was the captain of the team, and with D-diddy gone and with Ellis injured he had the ball the most. Yet he had a really crappy PER. This just proves Stephen Jackson sucks.

Battier on the other hand never really has the ball except when he is spotting up for threes. Since all he does when he has the ball is shoot threes, how do you expect him to have a decent PER? As mentioned countless times, Battier's value is based on intangibles (defense, leadership, glue etc). Using PER to rate Battier is like saying CP3 sucks because his last playoff averages were horrible.

As for your rational argument, please address why it would be rational to get S-Jack in light of his cap killer of a contract? Please tell exactly what is rational with paying 10 million for a 34 year old when we could have a much better and younger talent at that price?

Answer this post before you argue for S-Jack anymore, you S-jack lovers are getting ridiculous...

Battier provides defense, and glue but the reason why he shoots mostly threes is because he isn't good at much else. PER shows efficiency, but S.Jackson does not suck,he isn't all that efficient but he undoubtedly has had success on better teams and it wasn't because he is worthless by any means. He was the 2nd best player on the GS that beat Dallas,he can still be a good addition on a contender. The Rockets aren't a contender, they don't need him.

TELL THAT TO THE PRO-BATTIER POSTER WHO BROUGHT UP "PER" IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Is this really that hard to follow? Once again, I was NOT the one who brought up PER. I was perfectly content to have this debate without bringing up PER. It was the pro-Battier brigade who (bizarrely) brought up PER to try and bolster their argument. It's not like I just came out of nowhere talking about how putrid Battier's PER is.

    Good luck stopping
    [IMG]

    Without 43 in the backfield.

You guys will also be waving pink towels instead of yellow. I know it's for a good cause but I can't stop think about how funny it's going to look.

    :p

He brought up PER to show Jackson sucks and I agree with him. You are the one who brought up Battier's "putrid" PER, and I just explained to you why Battier shouldn't be judged by PER. Is this really that hard to follow? And again you side step through the contract issue....

So we can only agree on how Jackson PER is real bad, as well as agree on how never to use PER to measure Battier?

Yeah, cause Jackson has to have the ball to play his game and Battier doesn't? The stats you use have to be relevant to the player at hand, or do you use blocks to measure Cp3's performance?
