He means Jackson has won a ring with San Antonio whereas Battier has only been out of the first round once. I'm open to the trade because the team needs offense and Jackson is a proven scorer. Ariza plays great defense and will be the team's top wing defender, but Jackson plays underrated defense as well. Still, I don't see this trade happening.

He's also advanced to the second round with two other teams since then (Pacers and Warriors). Even if you exclude that championship season, Jackson has won more playoff games in his career than Battier.

Yes Stephen Jackson is more valuable than Battier to us if we had the chance. Yes that is what we are saying. What is so hard to understand that a 20 point a night guy is more valuable than a role player? Thats the problem with Houston sports fans. You tend to overrate your hometown roleplayers over guys who can make the allstar team. Frankly its rediculous and what allows us to never win Championships. Yes! Jackson is light years better than Battier. That is just an NBA fact of life.

Just because you score more points doesn't make you a better player. Battier is the most well rounded out of the two.

Your thread gets one star, you fail at basketball analysis, you lose, good day sir.

LOL! Ok. You lose and we all lose because you dont know basketball. Evidently alot of us lose because we think Battiers role playing equal a player we will need when we cant score from the first game on in this season. Just stick around and see what happens when it starts as early as Preseason. ;)

What is up with ya'll wanting such low-efficiency, high-scoring players?

This lists all the players who scored over 20ppg in ascending order of PER. Yes, Jackson had the 2nd lowest PER of that bunch and first (Al Harrington) is also a name I hear a lot here.

How so? Battier is a better defender, but he's not a more well rounded player. Battier does nothing offensively but spot up for corner threes, and with Yao out for the season and TMac out for a period of time I don't see Battier getting many open shots. The team wants to run more, but Battier is not a run-and-gun type player. He's a good locker-room guy and would help a contender but the Rockets will struggle to make the Playoffs this year, if they do make it. ESPN also projects 3 more wins with Jackson than with Battier using the Trade Machine.

So what? Are they on winning teams? I bet Al Harrington is. What about Jackson? What about low efficiency scorers? You wanna see low efficiency scoring? Well here comes the season around the corner. Battier has won you zero playoff games with his scoring. In fact if we had better scorers or our top scorers healthy we would have won most playoff series. Battier is at best your fourth and maybe 5th best player every year. Jackson could be better than Tmac this year depending on how Tmac comes back.

Battier is a better shooter, rebounder, defender and passer (in our system) than Jackson. Jackson is better at creating his own shot and throwing the ball away. Battier is a perfect compliment to Yao and we would sorely regret trading him once Yao returns. We aren't in win now mode for the love of god.

Its not win now mode. its win when Yao comes back and you have Yao, Scola, Jackson, Tmac, Brooks, Ariza, Landry, Lowry, and Andersen. That sounds like Championship team. Insert Battier and take away Jackson and it sounds like 52 -54 win team and first round exit like every year with something similar already proven to that. Not only that but Yao will be worse than all of them years we had similar and also Tmac. Their scoring will be lower and no third option so teams can stifle them again like they always do and they kill us with their own third options like San Antonio, Lakers, Orlando, Boston, Cleveland. ALL OF THEM HAVE THIRD OPTIONS!

Stephen Jackson might help us more than Shane Battier will. But we're not going to make much noise this season, with or without Jackson. So why would we take his 4-year contract that goes all the way up to $10 million in 2012/2013 over Battier's whose contract goes only up to 2010/2011 and $7.3 million?

Financially, it makes zero sense. Improving our team this year and hurting our financial outlook for the future also makes zero sense.

This is a bad trade across the board for the Houston Rockets as an organization.

Compare the bottom line financials for Golden State and Houston:

    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm

Our only guaranteed contract past 2010/2011 is Trevor Ariza. If we want to blow everything up, we can. We're in a position to build exactly want we want. Signing Stephen Jackson is counter-productive to this unless Rick Adelman and Daryl Morey really feel he is a piece we can build with at $10 million per year (which he isn't).

You can post as many pics as much as you want but fact is your methof Battier with Tmac and Yao have already proven a FAIL strategy to back for years now. I dont need a picture. Go watch video says Tmac with its all on me.

This is all in good fun. I'm not going to disagree that we need a good 3rd option. One could argue that Scola could give ya 20 on any given night. We haven't had a fully healthy team in forever anyways. I'm just arguing that I have faith in Morey to be able to net more than Jackson for Battier. He just covers so many flaws that teams have on both ends of the court. Only a few guys can light him up (Kobe, Roy, Gay) and he never takes a night off. Sure, Jackson's scoring might win a few more games on nights where we struggle to fill up the basket... but his boneheaded play will surely lose you some as well.

Ok. Same as Artest though. You win some with him and lose some. We got to the second round with Artest though. I think we could get farther with Yao, Jackson, Tmac, Scola, and Brooks.

Golden State has a free flow up tempo system with absolutely no design or structure. Jackson is the "leader" of this team which is ripe with dissaray, ranging from dishonesty, massive egos, trade demands, refusual to play with teamates, etc. He is ridiculously overpaid and has a lengthly contract. He lied to the Warriors, moped until he got his contract and even claimed he wanted to end his career in GS.

He shoots more because the system he is in allows him too. He turns the ball over almost more than anyone in the league. Stop referencing points scored as a positive for him.

Part of Battiers positive is getting the ball in the right spot to the right person for the best shot attempt. He doesn't shoot because it is better for others to take the shots. Battier does what his teams need, he adapts to fill gaps. The Rockets want Yao to take the shots, not Battier, unless he is wide open. Battier anchors our defense, is probably the best wing defender in the league, gives 100% always, is the teams leader, all while being ridiculously effecient. Before last year his +/- was extremely high.

Also, I don't know why people keep suggesting they make the same money. In 2013 when Sjax is making almost 11 million, Battier will probably be resigned for midlevel money. When guys like Ramon Sessions can be had for 4 million, that amount of money is huge.

    Say no to Stephen Jackson!

The IQ disparity would create a black hole in Houston, hopefully this thread will be the first thing to go.

Does Cap. Jack make us a contender? Is he the kind of player we want our growing team to model themselves after? He's 31 already, and is at 16 attempts per game. There won't be enough ball to share with Tmac, yao, brooks, scola.

This lists all the players who scored at least 7 ppg, in ascending order of PER. Battier had the 11th lowest PER among those 219 players. Lets see.

    - 26th highest PER among the 27 highest scorers in the league
    - 209th highest PER of the 219 highest scorers in the league

    Who would you rather have?

I was scared when I read the title of this thread.

I wouldn't make this trade until:

    1) We see how and if Ariza pans out
    2) See how (and if) McGrady and Yao come back. {Making a trade like that for a 3rd option assumes that we have a 1 and 2 option. We can't be 100% sure of that right now.}

    As of right now........pass.

It means nothing when you hardly shoot the dang ball! Percentage-wise, they're about equal overall but Shane has a higher three point percentage. Give or take what you want.

    Jackson- 5.1 to Battier's 4.8. I'll say it's a wash.

Defender - I'll give you that one. Shane is an All-NBA defender and underrated come awards time, but Jackson is no slouch either. He's got length and speed to guard many twos and threes, and did well against Dirk in the 07 Playoffs.

I'm not sure what you're talking about on this one. Jackson's 6.5 to Battier's 2.3. Stats aside, Jackson is built for Adelman's offense. He can cut, shoot, pass, attack.

Throwing the ball away? When does Battier ever have the ball in his hands? Only if it's a rebound or to shoot. That's why his turnovers are low. You can't turn the ball over if you don't have it. Jackson, on the other hand, is the Warrior's main option so of course he would have more TO's than Battier.
