Did you even read the article you're posting a link to? All it says is that Jackson wants to go to a Texas team and he said that weeks ago.
But that's the thing until or even if McGrady comes back we have no legitimate 2 guard. All the rest are rookies on non-guaranteed contracts or considered 3, hell even Tracy could be a 3.
Funny Thread NOt at ALL tho no disrespect to Captain Jack Ive always liked his game...just not for Shane "put me on the bench PLEASE Coach" Battier
The Rockets Organization is always looking to improve the roster with players that have the right combination of talent, contract and character, with the latter being extremely important. So when Stephen Jackson says this at media day yesterday; "I don't have a regret about anything I've done. I don't have a regret about going in the stands with Ron Artest. I say what I want to say when I feel like it, regardless of what the consequence is. That's just always been me." That about sums things up. Next...
Battier can guard 2s and the 2/3 is interchangeable in our offense. We should also see a good amount of Brooks/Lowry on the floor together when we want to run. We are going to miss Von in some games when we can't find the spark off the bench. Lets see how our rookies pan out (or McCants for that matter). Regardless, if we are going to trade Battier it's going to be for an upgrade at a position or in a package deal for an all-star caliber player that wants to get moved.
Interesting sentiment considering the fact that last year, our roster included a player who got into fights at clubs, another player who ran into the stands to fight fans, and another who continually tried to undermine the team throughout the entire season with deception and laziness.
Your right Battier does guard 2's but who's going to put up points at the "shooting guard" position while Battier's on the floor; McCants, Budinger, JT? Even Ariza, I don't think so, we have a log jam at the SF position not the SG position. We have no true scorer/playmaker without McGrady on the floor, which is sad to say. I hope no one thinks Battier and scraps will net you a Caron Butler or Joe Johnson. Hell, that didn't even get us close to VC! IMO Shane needs to be moved while he still has value, preferrably a young talented player with athleticism, which again Portland sounds like the best trading partner to offer that.
Although I love battier on this team, that would be an awsome trade for Us. Getting jackson improves us automatically. We would get WAY better offense, without losing too much D. Jackson has played under pop in san antonio, has a ring, and is well playoff tested. In adelman's offense he would flourish ! Allowing him to play off pick n rolls, backdoor cuts, and creating mis-matches on smaller guards would be huge for guys like Trevor, and Brooks. AWSOME trade, and he isint a ron artest risk type player. Would def miss battier, and ALL his intangibles, but jackson is a clear upgrade. Morey said he is looking to upgrade n if this gets any steam GO FOR IT !
I leave that up to Adelman's offensive scheme to be able to put up points. It's not like this squad hasn't played with each other before. There's chemistry and now with no Artest (who was a piss poor playmaker) we will finally see some ball movement. Brooks and Scola will hopefully create enough open looks for Battier/Ariza) as they are very difficult to contain with one defender. If Taylor can play the slasher/scorer role that Von was, we won't miss a beat. Jackson is a cancer and we'd be giving up one of the best glue guys in the league for a side-grade at the very best.
Really??? Didn't sound like any teammates were talking down on him in the excerpt posted by worzel gummidge. So every player that is mentioned as being good to trade for is a cancer? Artest was a cancer before he came, he arrived we won a little all was forgotten he left and now good ridance to the cancer. Tracy hasn't even left the team and he's already being called a cancer, well now he'll be a savior since tons on this board have flopped back to him returning to elite status and being the star of the past. I don't doubt that Adelman's system will help us move the ball and get open but at the end of games when you need a playmaker to start things up who is the ball going to come down too? I hope AB steps up and becomes that. Shane is a glue guy but honestly what is he holding together being on a team like the one we'll be running out this coming season? Serious question....
On Jackson being a cancer: Artest actually has the skill to risk investing in. Jackson was quickly shown the boot by the spurs, mainly because of his attitude. There is a reason he's been on 5 teams in his 10 year career. GS is his longest stint (3 years) and he's already causing problems for wanting to be traded. He's an ungrateful punk and the only reason his stats are good are because of GS's r****ded schemes. Let's compare stats: Jackson career - 32.5 mpg, 15.4 PPG, 41.8 fg%, 34.1 3ptfg%, 80% FT, 3.8 RPG, 3.2 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 2.48 TOs (yikes, including 3.88 TO per game this past year) Battier career - 33.5 mpg, 10.0 PPG, 44.7 fg%, 38.8 3ptfg%, 75.1% FT, 4.8 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 1.04 TOs For somebody that's supposed to be a scorer with a high volume of shots, Jackson only manages to score 5.4 more ppg than battier in his career. Battier shoots a higher clip from everywhere but the free throw line and turns over the ball much less. 3.88 TOs last year from Jackson is very very bad. How many times do you hear about Jackson being a top tier defender? I was upset about breaking up the Battier/Artest defensive duo, but I can live with Battier/Ariza. Besides recovering from his surgery last year, Battier is an iron man... the dude just doesnt miss games. Jackson always seems to miss a good 10+% of games with the exception of a couple of years. Just look at Jackson's last 16 games of the year... Turnovers: 5, 6, 7, 5, 5, 0, 2, 7, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 4... NO THANK YOU!!! As far as your question goes, Battier is one of the leaders on the team. He brings a toughness and fire that is contagious. Jackson brings a piss poor attitude. I'm not against trading Battier, but Jackson is not the type of player the Rockets are looking for. He's been in the league 10 years now, he's a volume shooter, he hasn't stuck with a team because of his attitude, and he coughs up the ball way too much.
You cannot compare stats between Jackson and Battier throughout a career when Shane shoots 5 shots a game and Jackson shoots 15, of course Battier's numbers will be better. HE DOESN'T EVEN SHOOT WHEN HE'S WIDE OPEN! And yes he is also going to have TO being the shooter and playmaker of the team. How many turnovers did Francis and Cuttino have being the playmakers, tons! It happens with a lot of guards on bad teams, they're shoved the ball and told make a play. I really don't see how we can get that is what everyone here is asking for with Battier. He's in his early 30's and is going into the stages of players careers where they lose a step. Everyone wants a leader and a glue guy on the team but when you have both stars down you try the best to get someone that will fit and someone that has talent. I don't see any trade for Captain Jack going down but I'd say if it comes across why not, the only thing that would frighten me would be the salary owed. I honestly don't know who or what could be gotten for Shane Battier at this point.
Are you people actually trying to argue that Stephen Jackson is more valuable than Shane Battier? Really?
This is beyond ridiculous. This thread should have gone to about the second page and be over with. Stephen Jackson wouldn't do a damn thing for us. FLASH, you need to reconsider your thoughts.
