Playing 35 minutes a night the last 3 games of a playoff series and putting up these numbers: 4.3 points 4.0 rebounds 1.7 assists 23.8 FG% 14.3 3P% Talk about destroying a team...and no, those aren't Artest's numbers...
I will say the op wont make any friends with this idea, plus we've had alot of statements about shane and its a losing cause. If a guy like jackson that has won a ring, he rode duncans coats even if he was the 2nd leading scorer. If he puts up numbers, he's a loser putting up numbers, but shane is a winner although he hasnt won anything. Its funny how that works
Stats are convenient when you put them towards your own cause. EVERY NBA player has had stretches like these... Stephen Jackson has made a career out of finding a role on winning teams.
We did not have one. I don't know, I never watched Memphis. They were pretty decent back in the day though. They did not have the talent to win in the playoffs, but they played hard.
I would enjoy being friends with all. I just believe Jackson is the right type of player to win a Championship with Tmac and Yao. There is nothing in the NBA logic that would conclude to me that his contract and attitude make so much of a difference that I would rather give up that chance at a Championship just to keep a nice guy that everyone likes in our community. I would give up a thousand Battiers in our city for a Championship level roster and a chance to win it all. I could care less if Battier feeds Africa for the rest of his life. I love the guy but Championships is what this is about. Jackson plus Ariza, Tmac, Yao, and Brooks equals to anybody in the league. With Battier and a couple of maybes like Tmac and Yao it means very little chance at all. Thats just the way it has been for years even with adding Ariza it would look that way.
They went from winning 37 games with Dunleavy's crew to winning 47 with BDiddy and The Captain. Not to mention one of the greatest upsets in modern sports history...
Heres Chris Paul's stats for his final two playoff games: Min FG 3pt FT Stl blk TO PF Rb ast pts. 36 2-7 0-1 0-0 2 0 6 0 2 6 4 46 5-16 1-3 1-3 3 0 3 3 6 10 12 Do you want him on your team? Shane is the leader of our team, our identity.
Shane was not the leader and Identity of the team before he arrived that just had Yao and Tmac and won 52 games. We will be alright if he leaves us. I am sure 1 or 2 wins wont go away if we get Stephen Jackson. Scola could be the leader and Tmac. Jackson is a fiery guy who can get his team just as fired up as Shane.
When JVG came in, he instilled a defensive identity for the rox. They went from one of the worse defensive teams to one of the tops his first yr with guys like mo taylor, francis, mobley, cato, yao, and that whole crew that couldn't defend. The next yr they traded for tracy and howard and added guys like sura, james, barry, and just guys that could play and they were a elite defensive team. In 05/06 they suffered major injuries and were still top 5 in defense. Me,phis in shane's 1st 2 yrs were terrible on offense and defense. Hubie brown comes in along with other guys and they become a top defensive team. In the next 3 yrs along with fratello, they were a good defensive team with shane, but they could win a playoff game. Notice i didn't say series, i said playoff game. To make a long story short, shane is a good player, but to think the team wont have a identity or wont play defense if he's traded is overblown and a bunch of lies. If you don't believe ,e, go look up the team defense for the 1st 15 games when he was out and tracy was hurt, it might surprise you.
1. But Shane played great offense and defense that year, and that is who we are talking about. Correct? 2. Yes, I know. It is a miracle they even made the playoffs. They were that bad. 3. Our defense would take a good hit if Shane was traded. Shane Battiers PLUS/MINUS would indicate that he needs to be on the floor as much as possible. DM is not blowing smoke up your ass, Shane is just that effective.
You know it is useless arguing here. The bottom line is that S-jack has a contract which will be going up every single year: 7, 8, 9, 10 million per year. Battier only has two year left at roughly 7 million year. Why would we want someone like S-jack at that kind of price over Battier whose contract expires in two years and could be resigned for a cheaper price afterwards? I repeat starting next year S-Jack will be making 8, 9 and 10 million in the final year of his contract. Why do you want to hamper our flexibility by signing yet another 30+ oldee who will be dead weight when his contract is about ot expire? This is not NBA Live people, players age over time, and their contract will kill you if you trade for players thoughtlessly.
I dont think this is corrct. We will take a hit anyways from teams constantly taking it to the hoop with giards because Yao isnt there. However a Ariza combo with Jackson would be like having a better defesive combo than having Tmac and Battier out there because Jackson is a better defender than Tmac and Ariza is comparable to Battier in steals and length. So we essentially would be OK on defense and even have Tmac back also. Then you take into account even if you lost a point or two on defense you went exponentially on offense by adding a guy who could score 20 a night over a 8 point a night Battier. not only that but could fast break better and steal better. I think we would be much better off in every statistic and next year be one of the top teams in the West When Yao returns. In both Offense and defense for once and not just defense.
I like Battier alot, but Jackson is a pretty good defender also. We were really struggling without Shane earlier last year, but having Jackson would be a definite improvement. Perhaps our team needs Shane's leadership at this moment, but I find it hard to believe nobody on our team will take on a leadership role if we trade Shane.
His 1st 2 yrs in the league mirrors alot of unstable, bad coached teams. They were terrible on defense the first couple of yrs, they change the coach and all of a udden they're good and top 10 defensivley. The philosophy and excution is what makes a team good defensively. The Heat lost Zo mourning in his prime with the kidney issues and were still top 5 defensively. Are you telling me that shane is or ever was a more impactful defender than Zo in his prime? I think the rox will miss yao more than shane defensively. Just as this whole defensive team thing started with yao.
you still haven't taken his contract into account. Sjack is not worth more than 7 mill a year but he will be making 8, 9 and 10 in down economy. Wafer couldn't even find an offer better than the minimum and you want us to pay S-jack 10 million? S-jack would be a nice player to sometimes start or come off the bench but at his price he is not worth it.
Its not that bad as say 23 million dollars in one year. Not as bad as say a broken foot and no playing time for the life of the contract. Tmac and Yao could easily accept lesser contracts than the max and fix that. We could let Tmac go or trade him easier. We could trade Yao easier. There is always a way. Vince Carter got traded, Shaq got traded, Zac Randolph keeps getting traded. Thats just another copout excuse to not get things done. if you are good any player can be traded. Billups is in his 36th year and stil worth it. Nash, Shaq, and Hamilton. All old. All can be traded and still good. Thats just being too cautious with all of that hamper our salary talk.
Too much caution leads to no playoffs or Championships. i dont think Jackson is a big risk in salary or attitude. He isnt inury prone. He isnt getting worse. He is actually getting better. He is relatively young enough to have most of his contract have productive years. He might even be better than Tmac next year if Tmac isnt 100% healthy.
PLUS/MINUS numbers indicate that Artest is a much better player than Battier, and that Ron was FAR better than Shane in the playoffs last season. Try telling that to anybody around here...
