I agree. Shane is a proven player in this league. Gortat's numbers project very well if given more minutes, but no one can be sure how he will play once given more minutes. I think we can do better than Gortat for Battier.
Battier is the team leader, and defensive stopper, why do some people want to trade him for an unknown player? Rockets have several players who can be traded for a backup center. By the way, at least this thread is better than Battier for Foster one, but it is still very bad trade for the rockets.

I guess I don't understand why anyone, money and dec 15 not being considered, would not want someone like a Gortat right now for Shane. Shane is great when you have players who can score around him. We already signed a younger, more athletic, defensive, offensively-void wing player. Why is Shane untouchable? We need a big man and if Gortat's stats are spread over the minutes Shane plays, he goes 10 and 12 while shooting 55%. I don't think there are enough intangibles in the world that could be used to justify Battier's 7, 4, and 41% over Gortat's, especially when Chuck Hayes is our starting center now. Battier is wonderful but Ariza has made him expendable.
yes, Ariza is not a better defender than Battier yet. Until then Shane needs to be here. We must keep some defensive i.d. And we need some veteran leadership.
Shane will make Ariza such a better player. I think its an awesome pair to workout together. I'm excited about it. Don't ruin the one thing I'm excited about and get rid of Shane on me..
