    Whats the point of that? We have Chuck Hayes, he does exactly what Wallace does. Big Ben to retire IMO.

    Please no. Shane has more value for Gortat alone. His leadership and defense are more valuable then what Gortat brings to the table. Granted the team needs a center but Shane can probably fetch a stronger/better player then Gortat.

    Gortat is untradeable until December anyway, so you get a chance to evaluate him further if the Magic feel compelled to get him playing time, maybe with Howard at the 4. But with Bass there too he may end up with under 10mpg.
    And, you may have a better idea of Yao's future in December after surgery.

    So, it's not a totally ridiculous idea to keep in the back of your mind. The Magic are going for a title this year and throwing money around like drunken sailors.

    As much as I like to have a decent center in place of Yao while he is gone, I still wouldn't trade Shane for Gortat... Shane has proven that he really belongs in this league and made a huge impact to the Rockets success (you can't rely everything statistically). I think he is the glue in this team... Gortat does not want to come back to the Magic because he'll be Howard's backup... The guy wants to play more, but he is going to have the same role when Yao comes back... So would you give that much money for an unhappy center? I would say I'll trust Morey to figure all this thing out... There are bunch of teams that are desperate to cut salaries, I'm sure Morey can pull one off...

    If this is the topic how about this trade

    Magic sign and trade Gortat(6.8m) and also sends us Pietrus(5.3)

    T=12.1 m

    Houston Sends

    Orlando

    Battier(6.9),Barry(2.0), and Cook(3.5)

    T=12.5M

    Very Fair trade. Both barry and Battier compliment a team going for a championship. Cook will go back to Magic as a value expiring.

    Not a bad trade however I still hope if they do indeed trade Shane that it would land the team Amare. :D

    I know ill probably get creamed for this idea but
    McGrady and Battier

    for

    Amare' and J-Rich?
    we get what we're looking for in both players...
    a dominate big and a slashing scoring wing....
    works out money wise....
    hell no one would be able to run with us...

    I'm sure there were two reasons that Gortat didn't sign with Houston:

    1. Morey offered less money
    2. Yao might very well return in a year and Gortat could be pushed to the same status as before: superstar center backup (albeit overpaid at that point, since he'd get about 14 mpg in that scenario)

    WOuldn't Gortat have to approve any trade between now and next July, just like Landry's situation? I'm not sure he'd OK a trade to Houston.

    Lets see...trade Shane for a guy who averaged 12 minutes per game and got a big fat contract......We can get sooooo much more for Shane than Gortat...

    ...pass

    If we have to trade Battier, I would rather it be to Portland for Rudy Fernandez and Pryzbilla. I know some people have been mentioning Stoudemire and Richardson, but I would rather see what Portland would give. I love Amare but I am tired of these injury-prone guys being on my team.

    Any of those trades are better then the Gortat for Battier. Morey is smart not to jump into a trade just to get a center.

    Wow Gortat is sooooo over-rated that guys are suggesting to give up our best defensive player for a guy who basically wouldn't see that much playing time.
    Way to go for making this proposal :rolleyes:

    Yao ( assuming he plays this season ) would see lots of playing time if he is able to go. Why would u want an expensive back-up center who would see no more that probably 10-15mins a game??

    Joey Dorsey seems to be turning alot of heads. This so called "bust" as some guys would say could and should be our back-up center. Mind me we have Scola, Landry, and Hayes. The Rockets do not need Gortat. It would have been nice if we weren't clogged up at the 4 position where Gortat and Yao could be on the floor at the same time but we have guys. Pass on Gortat and call it a day.
