Camby second? really? This dude played on the worst defensive team in the league and one of the worst on NBA history and he finished second?
don't mind losing to KG with the turnaround and all that mess. But Camby anchoring a Denver team that is so poor defensively is a poor choice.
It's hard to argue with Garnett's impact on the defensive end. He plays great man-to-man defense and help team defense along with being a beast on the boards. I agree with the arguments against Camby, but he's got the flashy stats and they were pretty close in voting, actually. Hopefully, this is a prelude to Shane being voted to the All-Defensive team, which he definitely deserves.
Yeah! I can understand Garnett winning it but how the "F" did Shane get beat out by Camby? He 's got to be coasting on his reputation alone.
Garnett is a good defender I can see him as #1, but Camby #2? He's terrible at defense... he's just a shotblocker. Yao Ming can school him all day and night, hell I'd say Dirk is a better 1 on 1 defender and that's just sad.
Looking at just points per game for how good Denver's defense is the same as looking at a guys scoring average for how good of a player he is. It doesn't show anywhere near the whole picture. Per possession Denver was a top 10 defense. The reason they allowed so many points was because their offense is run and gun very rarely using more than 15 seconds to put up a shot. I don't think Camby should be ahead of Battier because all he does is slide over and get blocks off of guys he's not actually guarding. However, him being on Denver isn't why he shouldn't be on this list.
Congratulations to you, Shane! I am in Celtic territory, but you have my vote for first place as the DPOTY. You are the best! BattiersBaby.
Exactly what i'm wondering, thats a horrible decision, LUCKILY Bruce Bowen didn't even get close, cause he's a dirty player and it'd be a shame for him to get it. I don't mind KG getting it cause he help change the whole attitude of the Celtics to focus on D.
IIRC, Battier didn't even get on the all-defensive 2nd team last year. So 3rd place DOY voting is a HUGE step up. I really hope this allows him to get away with more crap on defense by the refs. Perception to the refs goes a long way towards helping your game. Two thoughts. 1. Camby is NOT a bad defender. I know we want to prop up our guys, but Camby is a great defender. He's an average man-to-man defender, but an excellent help defender. The fact that Denver gives up so many points has to do with Melo/AI not caring about defense, and their high pace. Now, is he #2? Perhaps, perhaps not. 2. As for Battier's playoff defense, Utah's scoring output in the playoffs dropped from 106 ppg to 91 ppg. Even if you adjust for pace, their efficiency dropped from 110 to 107. Defense hasn't been our problem. OFFENSE has been.
I think that he was voted in fourth place last year for DPOY but then was passed over for the all defensive team. I could be wrong though.
Yes, congratulations, but these people don't know what they're talking about. How he's overlooked for the defensive team is beyond me.
As long as Battier is in a Rockets uniform, he will never earn the respect he deserves. I hate how everyone contributes Boston's defense to Garnett when most of that credit belongs to Tom Thibodeaux.
I love how on nba.com: http://www.nba.com/news/garnett_defensive_080422.html Guess what team it shows for our beloved Shane.
