My guess is someone will offer him more $ than the Rockets will.

Whatever the CBA turns out to be, the Rockets will probably throw most of their cap room at a center like Marc Gasol or Nene, with a small portion left over to sign Chuck Hayes and Yao. Probably can't afford to pay Battier or another FA too much. They may even need to get rid of one of the non-rotation guys (like one of the 2009 lotto busts) to get some more cap room.

Anyhow, I don't think the Rockets would be in position to pay Battier more than $3 mil, while another team might give him $5 mil+ a year.

    - Unlike Budinger, Iggy can hit the side of the barn when left wide open
    - Unlike Budinger, opposing scrub 3's do not look like All-Stars by simply taking one step forward
    - Unlike Budinger, Iggy HAS handles

God I can go on and on!

It's easy to make your case when your claims are over exaggerations in some cases or complete lies in others.

    Exaggeration yes. Complete lies no.

    - Budinger's shot last entire season was consistently SHAKY at best. Considering this player has NO OTHER WEAPONS to speak of, this is not a luxury ANY shooter can afford.
    - Did you watch him defend? It's like tearing through Charming Soft. This guy makes scrubs look like All-Stars on a nightly basis.
    - What part of Budinger's play has ever convinced you he has handles? His cuts to the basket against poor defensive skills that require nothing more than basic dribbling?

I made my points, why don't you actually try making some yourself if you plan on debating this with me?

    some points:

    Budinger -

    23 years old
"don't ever trade this kid" - Rick Adleman
    Annual salary of 800k

    Igouldala -

    28 years old
    Annual Salary of 12 million+
    Injury prone

Im not saying budinger is in any way a better player/fit for this team, because he is not - however for his price tag, the gap between the two is closer than you think.

Oh and BTW, in 2011 3pt % for Igouldala was 33.7% (above his career avg) vs Budinger's 32.5% (chase shot near 38% last year)

    Budinger:

    - Yes he is young, but unless he shows some serious improvements quick in all the other aspects of his game, age won't matter. 5 years from now, unless he improves, he will still be a scrub.
    - Rick's not with us anymore. I am also hard pressed to agree with any coach that persists in starting players like Miller over Patterson.
    - Can't argue with salary, but results are more important. Bottom line, Iggy will contribute more wins.

    Iggy:
    - His age is getting up there, so it really depends on whether or not we can shift into "contend now" mode
    - Salary may sting, but hasn't the FO mentioned multiple times that they are willing to absorb contracts?
    - With the exception of his injury last season, he has missed a total of 6 games. Until this becomes a trend, I honestly don't see how anyone can call him injury prone?

It is not the 32% shooting Bud gave us, but rather all those WIDE OPEN SHOTS he blanked out on as a SHOOTER. His shot is his only weapon, considering his garbage D and lack luster offensive arsenal.

I wouldn't mind battier back, only in a stopper off the bench of course. I mean the guy can play some spot minutes behind kevin martin or who ever starts at the three. Kevin martin might hit the injury bug this year and terrance williams is as good as gone for this roster. Battier will be spectacular playing 15 to 20 minutes a night.
Much respect to the season in which we had ron artest and shane battier suffocating the wing positions while mc. Lady reached for his back.

THIS! I dont understand why people still talk of him as the second coming, he hasn't proven that he can be a valuable rotation member yet and keep his ego/attitude in check. If he can prove that he deserves minutes than so be it, but until that time im not sold.

This is ridiculous! How can you call an injury here or there injury prone? You guys kill me with this.

I would welcome Shane back in only one scenario... He agrees after retirement to become a politician and run for Mayor/House/Senate for our city/district.

What ever happen to the saying Defense wins Championships? For those who don't want Shane back, you 2 face houstonian fans are probably bandwagoners, but oh well. I would definatly love to see Shane back on this squad, wasn't he part of that 22 game win streak houston had?

I think you are missing the point. The current front office is typically quite quick to dispose of acquisitions that are not working out. Brad Miller (who, by the way, wasn't that bad when healthy): gone in a year. David Andersen: Gone in a year. Trevor Ariza: gone in a year. Steve Francis (episode 2): gone in 1/2 a season. Mike James (episode 2): gone in 1/2 a season.

What does this mean? They know how to quickly dump guys they don't want. Battier stayed around for years, and didn't get traded until right before his contract expired, because they wanted him around.

I could see Battier coming back if the difference really was around $2 mil a year.

I agree with this, unless there is a significant difference in length of contract as well.

Frankly, I think the biggest thing that would prevent Battier from coming back is the prospect of Daryl Morey trading his ass again. Not that other teams don't trade players, it's just that the Rockets are in a trasition phase and Morey hasn't been shy about talking trades.

Battier should go to a contender.
