oh, the poor little j*zz took a hard hit! poor baby! i cant believe anyone on a rockets fan board is showing the slightest bit of sympathy for any of those chumps. i was glad shane wasnt hurt and i wish he would have knocked a couple of that chumps teeth out. there shouldnt have been a foul call on that - both were legitimately going for the ball - it was clean. how many times in this series has a rocket been going for a loose ball and a jazz comes in w/ no chance to get it, but just basically plows into one of our guys - the jazz play to hurt people - they always have - they have no class. utah is the dirtiest and most classless team in league history - they deserve what they get (from the fans as well as the battiers). DEATH TO THE JAZZ
Still a bull**** call. Battier was waiting for the pass while Deron just slams into him. Deron initiated the contact making it a loose ball foul on him.
What can I say? I'm a kind-hearted thug, I guess. I never disputed that the call was bad. I was booing with the rest of the crowd when the foul was called. Battier and Williams had an equal opportunity to make a play on the ball, so it was really just an unfortunate collision, not a foul on Battier. HOWEVER, my dismay about the crowd began, not when it was chanting "bullsh-t", but AFTERWARDS, after it was apparent that a player was injured, when the "Utah Sucks" chants began. On a sidenote, I have always found the "[INSERT OPPONENT] Sucks" chant to be among the dumbest in all of sports. First of all, the chant is rarely true. The crowd is usually only inspired to recite it against a rival or other "Goliath-type" opponent. I doubt many fans in NBA arenas waste their breathe uttering the phrase, "BOBCATS SUCK!" Also, I find that the chant minimizes the accomplishment of the home team. Personally, I'd rather be of the belief that the Utah Jazz are a very good team, but that Rockets are an even BETTER team, as evidenced by our ability to beat a good team like Utah. Or maybe I'm just reading WAYYYY too much into this crap.
BimaThug, here's my take on this, considering I was one of the fans in the upper deck chanting "Bullsh*t" and "Utah sucks!" proudly after the call was made and Deron was on the floor. Both teams were playing hard and if you are a victim of a collision due to a hustle play, then that is unfortunate. We are in the playoffs now and I don't care who you are or what team you play for, if you are on the opposing team, you get NO sympathy. If anything, I would've been happy if he had really hurt himself so that we wouldn't have to deal with him for the rest of the series. That's MY take on it.. but then again, I'm a b*stard. I do admit that booing when he was getting up may have been a LITTLE bit classless (I was not doing this, BTW)... but I don't see what's wrong with chanting "Bullsh*t" on a crappy call or "Utah sucks!" against an opposing team that we genuinely hate and we've had a long, heated rivalry with. I believe the Rockets fans were just showing some passion and emotion for the game; at least we weren't throwing beers at anybody. I think you're being a little too sensitive about the whole issue..
i thought the "utah sucks" was a bit much. i wouldnt have minded a "B.S." chant b/c that call was weak.
Throw me in with the people who think that the "bullsh*t!" and "Utah Sucks" chants were aimed at the refs and the Jazz in general, as a reaction to the bad call. I didn't think it had anything to do with the fact that Deron was down. I think it would have been the exact same reaction if the play were followed by a regular timeout. That said, I was at the game and did not chant at that time, mostly due to the fact that I didn't want to be part of something that might be misconstrued (as it apparently has been). From what I remember, pretty much everybody was standing and clapping for Deron when he finally got up, which supports what I said above. Look, it's not like Deron injured himself flying out of bounds for a loose ball or something like that which was inconsequential. He got hurt on a play that, by popular opinion, ended in a horrible call at a pivotal moment in the game. I don't think anybody should be chastised for chanting negative things in that situation, unless they were obviously directed at the injured player, and that's not the case.
It was a BS call. What I didn't like was that I heard someone yell, "Get up lil p***y, stop acting like a lil girl!!!" or something along those lines. He took a serious blow to the face.
I didn't feel right shouting BS when Deron was still down, but when he went right back in the game I had no problem screaming Utah Sucks.
I kinda of think Deron Williams faked. It might not as bad as it look. The booing is probably for the bad call. Shane has done nothing wrong.
is this a joke? do you think most people are taking utah as a joke? of course not. they've played bad and we've been lucky. no one actually thinks utah sucks. just like i dont think tmac is the mvp. however its part of the fun. as far as deron...as soon as he stood up everyone was clapping.
There's a very important fact everyone is missing. No NBA fanbase has "class" in a stadium. Period. It's not that "Rockets fans were classless" at that moment. That's how SPORTS FANS are. If that same situation occurred for any other team (your team gets a horrible call during the playoffs, but their guy goes down), the fans will be just as vicious. Don't be ashamed to be a Rockets fan. Be ashamed to be...human?
Scratch that. Don't be ashamed at all. It's not heartless and inhumane and classless. It's sports. He got up. He's tough.
We were all pissed about the call because Shane had as much of a right to the ball as Williams did and it was a hard collision that you either call a double foul or just let it go. As NBA Fans with emotions running high in a playoff game, it is understandable to chant bull**** about the call, however I felt wrong continuing to boo and hiss while Deron was still on the ground, in the end, safety of a human being takes precedent over a sport. However, like I said earlier, when he got up, a lot of people did clap. And when He went right back in the game like nothing happened, I had no problem going back to booing the hell out of him.
as easy as it would be to beat the jazz without deron, i still wouldnt want him hurt. i was us to play the best utah team possible so everyone can know we beat the best utah team possible. that and hes a heck of a player wouldnt mind havin him here in houston one bit.
The fans knew he'd go right back in the game. Just like the little baby Harris on Sunday night. "GET UP LITTLE GIRL" was awesome!!
