The Two Towers was the worst of the three Lord of the Rings if you are talking about Trilogies...

The Return of the King was the third one and definitely not the worst one.

I've heard Mickey Rourke as a supporting villain, Killer Croc.

Don't think it's fair to call any one of the LoTR movies the "worst."

Casting rumors are all completely unreliable until Nolan agrees to do the film. There have been tons of rumors like this and every one of them so far has been debunked. Check www.batman-on-film.com for details.

Helm's Deep just called. It's sorry about what it did to all of your female loved ones.

Sorry guys, just wasn't a fan of Two Towers. And this thread tangent was stating how the third movie was the worst one in the series. I disagree with that and gave the Lord of the Rings trilogy as my example.
Two Towers was just not my flavor.

Just focus back to Christian Bale. Just the actor himself has a lot for Director Nolan to pull out.

It is a "BATMAN" sequel after all. Why so obsessed by the villains?

I read somewhere that Johnny Depp would be The Riddler.. and Phillip Seymour Hoffman would play the Penguin. It was all pure speculation and rumors. Although I think both could play the roles really well. It might even be in this thread already but I'm not looking through 37 pages right now.

I heard that news over the summer, as well, but it came out to be false. There was also a fake movie poster that looked VERY legit. I believe it is in this thread, too.

Well obviously not since I said it was all pure speculation and rumors...but thanks for quoting that part too.

I couldn't agre more. I can't stand Miller's portrayal of Catwoman either (nor his affinity for the female prostitute/stripper characters). The Long Holloween's depiction is one that would work. To tell you the truth, I think in a movie, a combo Catwoman/Huntress character would work best (she'd be called Catwoman, of couse, but be a combination in characterization and backstory).

Now that I think of it, that's actually kind of what they did in TLH.

it's not obsession with the villains...it's obsession with the story line....the characters themselves are nothing more than an embodiment of 2 competing idealogies...and Joker and Batman are exact opposites...they are classic rivals...i'm not sure i can think of a better example of characters in a story anywhere that are so at odds with one another.

this is the script from the final scene with the Joker....Joker's first lines here ARE the story that Nolan was hoping to tell.

The Joker: Oh, you. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You are truly incorruptible, aren't you? Huh? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

Batman: You'll be in a padded cell forever.

The Joker: Maybe we can share one. You know, they'll be doubling up, the rate this city's inhabitants are losing their minds.

Batman: This city just showed you that it's full of people ready to believe in good.

The Joker: Until their spirit breaks completely. Until they get a good look at the real Harvey Dent and all the heroic things he's done. You didn't think I'd risk losing the battle for Gotham's soul in a fistfight with you? No. You need an ace in the hole. Mine's Harvey.

Well, after reading your good post about the Batman/Joker relationship above you should really pick up The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland first. It's a one shot as opposed to a collection. Probably the definitive Batman/Joker story.

Re: Frank Miller's Catwoman, honestly I haven't read Year One in a long, long time. I'd even forgotten the stuff you guys pointed out. I just remember it being a great, great Batman story (with great art by Mazzuchelli) and being the beginning of the modern, more complex treatment of the Catwoman character. I could be wrong about the Catwoman part, but it's definitely a great story. As opposed to everything Miller did with Batman after that, which was all horrible.

    Back to Max:

Speaking of Miller, if you haven't read The Dark Knight Returns, that's next on your list after Killing Joke.
