I finally saw this 2 days ago, and I thought it was great. However, I had a couple of qualms... Why did Bale have to make his voice soooooo raspy and low? I understand that he needed to mask his voice, but that was overkill and was completely distracting. Speaking of distracting, please never let Maggie Gyllenhaal get anywhere near another role as a leading lady. I think she's ugly (as do many others), especially by the standards they should have had for a women who was a love interest of a hot shot DA and a billionaire/super hero. It's a summer blockbuster action movie, so cast someone that we actually want to look at, for crying out loud! When the Joker said "Helloooo, Beautiful" the first thought in my mind was "Well, that was the ugliest girl Heath Ledger ever said that to." And I'm sure I'll get crap for this, but I didn't think she did a very good job acting her part either. So it's a double whammy as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, great movie.
agree with both; Gyllenhaal has droopy eyes like Katie Holmes so I GUESS they were trying to make her look kinda similar since it is the same character. Also I'd add the movie was 30 minutes too long, besides that, a great flick
I agree it was a little long, but I don't know about 30 minutes. In retrospect I can't think of very much (or any) filler scenes that they could have done without, and in a movie with so much emotional development in two its main characters (Batman, Dent) it almost has to be long to make it believable. It is what it is, I guess.
I watched batman begins again last night and see Katie Holmes in it as Rachel Dawes makes me mad that she didnt come back in the second film. She was the perfect 'girl next door', a pretty girl but not model looking. maggie is just a terrible actress imo and especially in this role. clearly the weakest link in the movie imo. i didnt think it was too long because there wasnt any real "what does this have to do with the story" parts aka filler that you see in some movies it was pretty packed. Similar with batman begins it was somewhat long but it didnt seem long. i agree CCR i dont mind the low tone of batman's voice but the raspyness of it seems silly
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...k-Knight-Johnny-Depp-to-play-The-Riddler.html Batman sequel to The Dark Knight: Johnny Depp to play The Riddler? Johnny Depp is being tipped to play The Riddler in the sequel to The Dark Knight. By Anita Singh, Showbusiness Editor Last Updated: 6:43PM BST 31 Jul 2008 Johnny Depp Reports in the US say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler Photo: GETTY Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker has set the bar high for Gotham City villains, but reports in the US say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. "Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?" a source said. They could be joining Angelina Jolie - the actress is reported to be after the role of Catwoman. The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in 1995 film Batman Forever and Frank Gorshin in the Sixties television series. As for The Penguin, he was portrayed on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and in 1992 film Batman returns by Danny DeVito. Plans for the sequel are yet to be announced but it is likely to star Christian Bale reprising his role as The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight has smashed box office records in the US, taking $314 million in just 10 days. There is even talk of it challenging Titanic to become the biggest movie of all time. Titanic took $600 million in the US. The Dark Knight certainly looks set to reach second place in the all-time chart and beat Star Wars, which made $460 million.
Katie Holmes did an ok job in Begins...I thought that Maggie G. portrayal was different than what Holmes did. The reason why Holmes wasn't back was because she wanted to do Mad Money and both movies shot at the same time...can anyone say mistake? For the Riddler, I think Depp makes perfect sense. I also think that if Nolan wants to replace Ledger with Depp it would make sense too, but I doubt they bring back the Joker after that great performance by Ledger. Going in a different direction makes perfect sense. I think adding three villians to the next movie would be way too much. I don't know if the Penguin would fancy anyone or Catwoman. I think introducing Selina Kyle would be purrfect (I had to do it), and maybe keep that as the plan if they wanted to do a fourth movie.
I think it's funny that Dark Knight is only now entering it's third week in theaters and people are already reporting pure speculation about the next villains as almost facts. It's fun to fantasize, but let's separate fact from fiction here. If we don't even have a script yet why on earth would there be any news on villains, let alone the actors/actresses playing them. Not to mention it would be incredibly stupid (if Nolan can pull it off fine, but history's against him) to put three big villains in the movie. And why does it have to be Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman...three characters that were already shown in previous films. I trust Nolan...and before I care about any villains I first want to be reassured that he's coming back for at least one more film. Until then, whatever Angelina Jolie or various producers say doesn't mean crap to me. The only producer involved in the film whose word counts in my book is the one that has made the franchise relevant again.
Well, there were 3 villains in Dark Knight. Who's to say what Nolan might do (assuming they will go this route)? Maybe Penguin is just an arms dealer acting as the mob head that we've had in the past two movies. Catwoman could be stealing from the bad guys as well as Wayne and doubles as a love interest. Riddler acts as the straight villain. But true - it's all utter speculation at this point. Evan
Just watched the movie. I don't have time to go through the entire thread but has anyone posed the question as to why the mayor was wearing eyeliner? Also, Bruce Wayne's Lambo still had Illinois license plates on. All in all, an excellent movie.
They designed the Gotham license plates to look like Illinois plates. There's no official decision from DC as to what State Gotham is in, just that it is on the east coast. Also, there's been mention of there being a state named Gotham and Gotham City is the largest city like NYC, NY.
I just looked at the numbers, it's really close and with revisions on Monday the weekend could still go to the Mummy. Though WB has been predicting less than the actual which is funny because some rival execs accused them of inflating their numbers the first weekend only to find out they did better than their estimates.
i think a lot of movie was film in chicago too so maybe it was a nice tribute to illinois designing gotham's plates that way?: i just want to go see it again thats all
Yeah, they had an estimate of 155M(still the Opening record by 4M) and they were accused of fudging. Then the actuals came in at 158M..... Sweet Irony. I dont think Mummy 3 has a chance with the numbers they have been spouting as weekend estimates. Universal wont understimate a film that has been given terrible reviews and word of mouth. If anything the actual numbers for Mummy 3 will be lower than the estimates. TDK will win this weekend, and could possibly win next weekend with the 2 new debuts coming in on Wednesday. TDK should come in around the mid to upper 20s next weekend. I would love for TDK to beat Titanic, but its probably not going to happen unless we start seeing some major week to week holds. Thing that irks me aobut Titanic is that if it came out when it was supposed to(same summer with Men in Black in 97) it would have probably only made half of its domestic total. Which would have still been amazing for a non blockbuster summer action type film.
Well I can tell you one thing. Dark Knight was still going very strong when I went to see it in IMAX this past Wednesday night. I made sure to buy my tickets online in advance, but I underestimated how packed it would be and getting there 15 minutes early wasn't enough, even for a midweek showing. For a movie that opened so big and had been out for 2 full weeks, that's saying something.
