yea but a killer batman defies his whole logic. i mean at least in this series of films. joker is crazy because he wants mayhem and batman is crazy because he wants peace. its the ying and the yang.

http://www.mtv.co.uk/channel/mtvuk/...o_play_riddler_angelina_jolie_catwoman_batman rumors about the next batman having johnny depp playng riddler, angelina jolie playing catwoman, and philip seymour hoffman playing penguin
I wouldn't buy into that. Hoffman as the Penguin rumor was around before the script to the Dark Knight was even finished. Nolan hasn't even signed on to the next movie and the only person casting would be him. Heath was his only choice for the Joker for instance. Now, he did meet with him before the script was written and Ledger's input actually shaped the direction of the Joker for this movie, but that was certainly more than a just a couple of week after Batman Begins was released. It's just too early. If there's been any talk, it's just executives at Warner's shooting the ***** and somebody overhearing it.
I like how the media reports Angelina Jolie being tipped to play Catwoman when all that's happened is she has expressed interest in the role. I honestly don't think Depp would be good in a Batman film because I have a feeling I'll be thinking about the actor and not the character when I see him. And if Nolan has been on record as saying he doesn't think Penguin would work in his universe then I doubt we see him in the next film. Personally I think Penguin would be a retread character consider the first two films had a heavy mob influence already. I know, I know...Penguin is more an arms dealers but it's still up the same alley. As for as Jolie...I could see her making a good Catwoman.
Every good villain needs a mob! What villains would do all their own dirty work? It isn't economical! And what have we been doing if not talking about an actor in Heath Ledger? If anything Depp has a longer history of playing a diverse set of characters and you won't see anything about him in the grocery store checkout rags. Not anymore anyway. I agree with Bruce Campbell that characters don't just disappear into their roles. If they say they do and pull it off, they're just wierd. Creepy even. Depp is wierd. He'd be perfect for the kind of role that people would throw words like "sadistic" "twisted" "maniacal" at, as they have loved to do for Ledger's Joker. Catwoman could be easily pulled off by someone as weird as Jolie. She's big budget for a while now, as is Depp, but that shouldn't diminish their talent as long as they aren't solely after money. Even most of the best weird actors have standards when it comes to big budgets.
you won't be still see the character but Depp in a Batman movie if he were part of it.. but you wouldn't have the same problem with Angelina Jolie...? is that a fact..?
Oh I agree the mob will have to play a role in some way...I just don't want it to be a centerpiece of the film...cause that's essentially what we got in Batman Begins with him trying to take down Falcone before moving onto the bigger baddies. As for Depp, I love him as an actor; he's had so many good roles and I don't doubt that he could do it. But the great thing about Ledger is he didn't have a huge backlog of characters we could pull from and say, HEY! he would be great. He was more of an unknown, and in a way I think that helped him disappear into the Joker. I honestly couldn't see Ledger in that performance. Depp has played so many characters, many of which have been weird and sometimes deviant. That makes him a good candidate, sure; but at the same time it almost typecasts him. I wouldn't be dissappointed if he were to be cast as a villain, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone whose more of an unknown like Cillian Murphy and Ledger were. Then again, I don't even know if I want to see the Riddler in the next one; I'm really liking the idea of Bane...a mental and physical threat. That would up the ante from the first two.
I see Catwoman as minor role in the film; definitely not the main villain. And she's good at the game of seduction. But yeah she always plays those roles...so in that regards, I guess I probably would like to see someone else...I just can't think of anyone right now.
Why can't we just give Nolan et al the benefit of the doubt? Was Ledger as the Joker such an obvious winner when it was first announced? They've put together two very intelligent, serious, well-executed films. I think they've got this under control, and I am happy to sit back and see what they put together for #3, even knowing that chances are slim that it can measure up to Dark Knight. Evan
I'm confused over who that is directed at. Are you talking about those of us questioning the Johnny Depp/Jolie news?
Directed to the posters that for the last two weeks have been so adamant that Penguin and Catwoman aren't doable in the Nolan Batman vision. Or otherwise are so certain that such and such will be a terrible idea. I think the production and creative team have earned enough trust.
The last time a production and creative team earned trust... We got Jar Jar Binks and the Backstreet Boys in Star Wars. Just sayin...
Those exact people have come out and stated to the media that they won't want to use those characters
Nobody is doubting him, the people saying these characters wouldn't work in his movies are trying to see things the way Nolan does. He's definitely said he thinks of the Penguin as being unrealistic. Probably because he might only think of him as the way Burton portrayed him, all gross and deformed.
You don't give Lucas trust, he created Star Wars, he can do whatever the hell he wants with his characters and his universe, even if it means f'ing it up. It's different with Batman because Nolan didn't create him. But again, I don't think people are not trusting him, they're just saying what they think Nolan is thinking.
