Jim Lee's not on Batman now, but the story was written by Grant Morrison - one of the best writers in comics history. And the follow up stories are by Denny O'Neill (the pre-eminent Batman writer), Neil Gaiman (second only to Alan Moore) and Paul Dini (also great). I agree with Oski that the R.I.P. storyline was too difficult to follow, but the next two years look like they're going to be really special. The Bane/Knightfall thing was lame. This is anything but.
Morrison being good back in the day means nothing. See Chris Claremont's return in X-Men early 2000's for reference.
I'm thinking this will last maybe 12 issues TOPS before Bruce Wayne pulls a Lazarus and comes back from the dead.
"Back in the day?" LOL. His All-Star Superman, which wrapped up about a month ago, was widely considered to be one of the top titles of the year. It nearly swept the Harvey Awards. Fans are mixed on Morrison - a lot of them think he's too far out. But nobody considers him washed up.
Uh, folks, those of you offering up the 'I bet it won't last!!' angle aren't exactly betting the farm here. We know. It's the kind of stuff that happens in comics. It's all about the story that gets us there.
