i've always thought Robin was the dumbest and gayest sidekick ever. how can someone in yellow and orange named Robin instill fear in anyone?
Sure, but then they lose the aspect that they are after the most...money. Batman fans are going to see it anyway...but what about the guys that have never been big batman fans? They throw in a little sex appeal to boost the box office numbers that much more. After all, that is pretty much what it's all about. Great movie, btw. Anytime I walk out of the theatre knowing I will be buying the DVD as soon as it comes out it usually is a good movie in my book.
One word for this movie ORGAZMIC Great, great, great movie. Just like all the others, the first movie goes slow, shows the orgins of the character the first 30 mins of the movie, then picks up towards the middle. Looking forward to the sequel and hopefully it never gets to the point of Schumacher crapville. The ending was perfect. The only complaints I had is the camera angles for every fight scene. Reminded me of Blade 2, where I had a headache by the time the fight scene was over because I just couldn't see the damn fight. Also, the whole thing with Batman screaming like a mad man when talking to them, was ummm pretty.... weird. Not used to that, but then again, thats probably how it should be. Katie Holmes was actually not that bad but as stated, she was probably not needed. I liked how they build the relationship between soon to be Lt. Gordon and Batman. On a side note, my cousin mentioned this to me, but aint it weird Nicole Kidman, ex of Tom Cruise was in Batman Forever and now, Tom's current beau, Katie is in this one. Weird eh?
The fight scenes..especially the beginning and end ones..reminded me a lot of The Bourne Supremacy style...very close and frantic with shaky handheld work, which is not really my cup of tea...I like to see some spacing in my fight scenes. And I liked Katie Holmes character in it...not one of the stronger characters or performances... but I'm glad they went that route. I think Batman needed a love interest or "friendship" interest of the opposite sex to balance the film. Plus she was pretty much the catlyst for Bruce trekking off to Tibet to find himself. Great film though, the best superhero film along with Spidey too, but for different reasons. Spidey 2 was a great epic/fantasy/adventure whereas Batman was an atmospheric/dark/gritty/action-thriller.. both succeeded at their purpose.
Am I the only person who really disliked this movie? I was excited about seeing it based on what I've read, but I thought it was just short of horrible. The only bright spot was Wilkinson. Bale's growling as Batman got annoying really fast.
Went and watched it tonight, I thought it was awesome, explained the story pretty well. I would recommend it to anyone
It was ok Ra's Al Guul is one of my Fav Villians from Batman TAS . . much better foil for Batman than the Joker Scarecrow. . . needed more Scarecrow Rocket River
Ra's doesn't die does he? I could have sworn they meet later on (in the animated series at least...) Good movie, but sitting in front made it asshard to try to follow any of the fighting sequences. All I saw was black hitting lighter shade of black with a few sparks of light sprinkled in. As for characters, loved Scarecrow, although I really hope he comes back, otherwise it's a waste of what promised to be a good storyline. Katie Holmes's Rachel character was definitely not that bad. She seemed sort of pointless, but that's because she wasn't trying to jump his bones immediately. She provided the spark for who he becomes, which is a good way of adding onto his parents' death as motivation for becoming a vigilante...
Yeah, I'm kind of surprised to see how many good reviews were given in this thread... I just got back from watching it and I think it kind of sucked. It was ok.
I saw it on Friday night and I freakin' loved it! But I had no idea this was set up for more movies. I thought this was supposed to be a prequel for the 1989 Batman with Keaton. At the end, when they talked about The Joker and Batman said "I'll look into it", I thought it was the perfect segway into the 1989 Batman. But according to others here, they're gonna redo it with more Batman movies? Is this confirmed? Link?
Will you do more than one Batman? Michael Caine - I’ve got a three picture deal. I’ve never had a three picture deal in my life. I feel like a blonde with big boobs. They always get a three picture deal. I never got one, and this is it. And I didn’t have to screw the producer or nothing. It’s a three picture deal and it’s great. It’s an old age pension for me if it works. I hope the first one’s a hit. http://actionadventure.about.com/cs/weeklystories/a/aa121003_2.htm
Saw it last night...great movie, they finally made the movie the "how they became superheroes" for Batman. I thought it was better then any of the earlier Batman movies, including Tim Burton's first 2, so I have no qualms with them basically redoing the Joker movie and others as well. It will be as if the earlier Batman movies never existed.
Incase anybody still doesn't know, it's not a prequel, it's the start of a new franchise. Just like the Batman movie from the 60's show isn't part of the continuity of the first 4 movies, this one is not in the same continuity of the previous 4 either.
You know The 1st Batman with Mike Keaton was great folx seem to dog it out. . because the rest of them were sucky including the uberdarkpointlesselysomber time burton crap Rocket River
saw it yesterday and i was blown away. im not even a big "comic book movie" guy. never saw either spiderman. it makes star wars look like a total piece of crap. batman wasnt all digital effects and stuff. hopefully lucas watched this to see how it could have been done. bravo!
You know what I'm getting tired of ... people's unending need to bash star wars in some form or another. I'm sorry but in no way can you compare Star Wars w/ Batman... they are of two totally different genres w/ very different styles, aims, audiences, stories, etc, etc, etc. And if you can find a way to create epic space battles and lightsaber duels in far off galaxies w/o using digital effects please let me know cause I'm definitely curious. And before you mention the original trilogy as an example, note this, one of the reasons Lucas made Episodes 4-6 first is because he didn't have the financial and technological resources to create Episodes 1-3 back in the late seventies/early eighties. And after seeing those three films, I definitely understand that reasoning. In any case, I don't really have a problem w/ people hating Star Wars, but I do have a problem w/ people bringing a totally unrelated movie into a Batman Begins discussion. If you need a movie to compare, then why not use one of the other half-dozen comic book/superhero movies that have come in the past few years. I can think of a few examples of how it "shouldn't be done"...like say Blade Trinity and Hellboy.
Also, it wasnt based on any of the novels either. Warner pushed hard for someone to write Frank Miller's "Year One" piece, but never went forward. From what I heard, "Dark Victory" and "Long Halloween" were influences for this script, hence, as posted above, the sequel should be somewhere like the "Long Halloween" story. Also, Joshua Jackson, Eion Bailey, Hugh Dancy, Billy Crudup, Cillian Murphy, Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal were other that were considered to put on the cape. Cillian Murphy impressed Christopher Nolan that he cast him as Scarcrow instead. As for the others, Gyllenhaal? Jackson? Man I guess they were thinking going the Spiderman way and go young. Bale was a brilliant choice and did it quite well.
Not to turn this thread into a Star Wars vs. Batman thread, but they're just different movies. And they have different strengths. Star Wars is bigger, more epic, more visual, whereas Batman is more intimate, murkier, moodier. So the effects and the spectable will reflect that. And if there's one thing Lucas can do, it's to direct a fight scene. I am getting so tired of the Borne-Identity-Style close shot, quick cut fight sequences. That was really the only quibble I had with Batman. Hollywood has fallen in love with this directing style and it's driving me nuts (they did this in Cinderella Man too). Thank goodness Lucas isn't really part of the Hollywood establishment so I was spared one movie this year that actually shows what the heck is going on.
