Cricket is horrible. I used to hate it when they showed it on tv in Saudi. (Pakistan vs India etc. games)
But I thought you were a hardcore Yankee fan, 03! Has the fact that they haven't won a World Series since 2000 driven you away from them?
This is exactly why I think Basketball.. . it is growing by leaps and bounds It is becoming so internation . . as pointed out on the program NBA does a GREAT job of outreach and folx going back to there countries teaching etc NO ONE was happier than stern that the Americans Lost the gold this year. . . . . The fact that other countries have a chance is BIG . . . We don't care about soccer cause we suck at it and don't have much of a chance at a gold . . . Rocket River
Shut up fool! I always claimed to be a "bandwagon" Yankee fan. Seriously, I like playoff baseball. Specially the big time rivalries such as Yankees and Red Sux. So I (regretably) do like the Yankees and now the Astros (since they are decent). Otherwise I have no wish to watch the billion games of a regular season. And I can pretty much gurantee that Cricket is twice as popular as Baseball worldwide. I dont blame people for not liking Cricket. It is an acquired taste. Cricket is a religion or rather a way of life in India and Pakistan. And I didnt want to say it, but Soccer is one sport that is actually more boring then Baseball.
Cool. American sports will continue not holding candles to soccer, and soccer fans can continue holding riots.
there are 2 countrys in Europe that care a bit about Basebal Italy and The Netherlands. But even in the netherlands it is noting compaired to soccer or tennis or Hockey(field hockey) or swimming, it is about as popular as basketbal.
I remeber those shirts when i was in middle school and highschool...they made one for every sport out there ..... classic.
Completely incorrect. The United States is an emerging power in world soccer, as evidenced by our run to the quarterfinals in the last World Cup, losing to the eventual runner-up Germany, due largely to a horrible non-call handball to stop a US goal (admit it SJC!). We have a tremendous youth system that is putting out world-class talent, and large number of Americans are now playing in the top European leagues. World Cup 2006 will be a lithmus test to see how much we've grown in the last four years, but I really believe the US will win a World Cup in the next 20 years, especially since our best players are all in the teens or early 20s.
You guys are getting better, but I think that it can be ruled out that the US will win one of the next five world cups. Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina and even France, Spain, Turkey, Korea, England, Holland will always be better than the US.
I know that soccer will probably stay more popular in all those countries than in the US, but I'm not sure how you can make the statement that those teams will always be better than the US, especially after the US/Germany game in the world cup a few years ago. Seemed like a very close game to me. Some of the teams you listed didn't even make the top 8 during the last WC.
Well, the US might finish ahead of some of them at some world cups, but not of all of them. In almost all those countries, how the national team does in a soccer world cup is a matter of national pride, in the US, it is not.
You're non-response to the handball is noted. Who said that we could ever make it even out of the group stages in 2002? Our youth teams have consistently played with the top teams in the world, and as you know, those are the future national teams.
well you gotta do something to get the blood flowing again after being bored to tears for 90 minutes by a 0-0 tie.
