Baseball is very odd sometimes. One season A-Rod hits over 50 homeruns, the next year he will be considered the best. Pujols has had the best season so far out of anyone and thats why he will be considered the best player in the game now.
Looked it up and I stand corrected. I still don't think any player should be retroactively punished though. Or at least if they get punished, then Selig should be as well for reacting so slowly to the problem. I just wish people would stop dredging up the past.
I can't understand why it's a big deal. I think if the side-effects of anabolic steroids and other PED were not so exaggerated and misunderstood by the average person the whole thing would not even be worth arguing about. If using steroids or HGH makes these guys more entertaining baseball players then I'm all for it. What is scary is that they have to do it in secret so they are not monitored by a physician or most likely not even getting their PED from a source they can trust.
Only by people who aren't very in tune to the game. Pujols is better because he is better, not because he hits more homeruns in any given year. He hits for a better average, gets on base more, strikes out less, has a higher slugging percentage...
Another big shocker. At least this proves that there's no karma in baseball if the cheaters are winning. I'm glad my Pirates continue to play (well, lose) by the "rules" then. P.S. Pujols is way better than A-Rod
Barry Bonds is the best ever. Better than Pujols, Manny, Bagwell, Manny, and all the other roid users.
Haha...thanks. I had to spend all of last night consoling a diehard Jack Wilson fan that was doing the usual "eff this team, they're not getting another dime from me" thing that pretty much every Pittsburgher has done by now. I got screamed at for saying "Yeah, because Jack's whopping .260 is irreplaceable...right?!"
Sorry let me rephrase that, A-Rod is unclutch in regards to playoffs. His batting average is 25 points lower in the playoffs and in his past 3 playoff apperances his average has been .159. To be the best player in the MLB, you gotta come through come playoff time. Pujols is hitting .323 in his playoff career and oh btw also has a World Series ring.
I understand where your opinion is coming from and I'll agree that it's too easy to point the finger and say that steroids (or HGH) deliberately attribute to a rise in players' performance. However, the issue is the side-effects. Sure they may not be fully understood by the general public, but they're banned (and illegal for that matter) because they can have adverse affects to your health. [Why isn't tobacco banned? Good question, especially since it isn't heavily regulated.] Even when a doctor prescribes prednizone, a common and controlled steroid, the long-term adverse effects are unknown even in small doses. Charles Barkley was prescribed a steroid after a sports hernia around '98 and I recall he urged everyone not to use steroids. Obviously he was aware of the dangers. All I'm saying is, don't use the Canseco excuse that steroids can have their benefits if used "appropriately" because even he admitted that was a misnomer: http://www.mesomorphosis.com/blog/2...g-from-anabolic-steroid-induced-hypogonadism/
I already said that Pujols is better and it isn't close. As for A-Rod's playoff failures, they are well documented. He's also been pitched around in some of those playoff series.
my favorite player of all time. Remember the time when hit a 101 mph fastball out of the park against Eric Gagne. Im still trying to find video of that awesome matchup.
as a reds fan, the only thing that helps me get through each season is..."well, at least i'm not a pirates fan"
Even though I'm a Yankees fan, my first response to this is "eh". The only reason this matters to me at all is because it takes away the moral high ground that Red Sox fans seem to cherish to much. But seriously, Steroids saved baseball after the strike. And they aren't turning fans away from the game. Skyrocketing ticket prices, however... Oh, and Pujols is most definitely better that A-Rod. A-Rod was better in 2007 and was overall a more valuable player when he was a gold glove shortstop, but those days are over.
He has been last or 2nd to last in Range Factor every year he has been at 3rd. Gold gloves are so misleading because they have a lot more to do with popularity and reputation then actual defense(see Jeter, Derek). ARod is an avg 3rd baseman in terms of defense. Contrast to Albert Pujols who has led MLB 1B in ZR for 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and is leading in 2009. He is a great defensive player at 1B. Average Seasons AROD - .304/.389/.576 44HR 128RBI 126R 130K Pujols - .334/.426/.628 43HR 129RBI 124R 66K Post Season Totals ARod - .279/.373/.483 7HR Pujols - .323/.429/.593 13HR Just for giggles Pujols - .334/.426/.628 43HR 129RBI 124R 66K Bonds - .298/.444/.607 41HR 108RBI 121R 83K Pujols could be the greatest offensive player the game has ever seen. Bonds is only vastly superior in his ability early on to steal bases. We may never see a four year run like Bonds posted from 2001-2004, but in terms of final numbers, Pujols may end up king.
I want to see the list and even if they are not on it, I'd be completely SHOCKED if Bidge and Bags never used. I think they're all guilty.
