    This is crazy...talk about sunk cost...$51MM for his rights, if he signs... :eek:

    Very big possibility because if they don't agree to a contract, the guy (I can't spell his name for the life of me) can't go to auction again for another year, so the earliest anyone else could sign him would be next offseason.

    Of course, the Japanese will probably never deal with the Red Sox again if they end up doing this.

    I have a feeling, he's not playing in the majors this year.

    Wanted to bump this...This is apparently a done deal...Crazy money...$51MM just to the team for his rights, which is outrageous...Then another $52MM for him for 6 years...

    HIndsight 20\20, with all the money being thrown around this offseason, Carlos Beltran was a bargain at 117mil.

    I'm not saying that this guy isn't an ace, but he's an unknown commodity vs MLB batters. And he gets 17.3m a year. Damn.
