Exactly. I'm at a loss to see how Scott Boras - a-hole that he is - is responsible for Boston's ridiculous *blind bid*.

Yeah, I hate Boras, but he didn't invent the posting system and he certainly didn't set a price tag, it's a blind auction.

I normally don't care much, but now I want Matsuzaka to bust. I was tired of hearing about him already. Now that he's going to Boston, which I'm really tired of hearing about, I hope he's the next Chan Ho Park. Nothing personal against Mr. Matsuzaka, just anti-hype.

When bleachers seats go for $30 in Fenway, this is why. Spending probably $80M on a player who might stink or could walk away after a few years makes zero sense. Irabu and Contreras already set precedent.

Or he can be the next Ichiro, which for atleast a few years brought incredible amount of attention and excitement to the Mariners that might otherwise not be there.

For Boston, I'm not sure they're desperate for attention. Before Ichiro, the Mariners had AJob and Junior Griffey. Both were bigger names than Ichiro. The Mariners were competitive in the 90's and got plenty of attention.

you forgot the tall guy with the mullet.

How come the Astros will not sign an Asian Brother? I will boycott the Astros untill they get an Asian Brother.

Drayton couldn't get this guy? Does he not want to be a champion?

Don't we play the AL East this year?

i really liked them. as a kid, loved mike greenwell and roger clemens and that bunch. rooted for them like crazy in the 86 world series to beat the hated mets, and i think that's why i liked them. there was some common ground. they are now the yankees, just with a worse track record.

As I recall the Mariners had to pony up $12-13 mill to talked to Ichiro.

It is my understanding that Boston gets their money back if they are unable to complete a deal. Somewhere I read or heard speculation that someone might try an ridiculous bid like this in order to block the Yankees and then stonewall on getting a deal in order to block a move to New York. Not sure if that is the case here but I'm assuming it might be a possibility until proven otherwise.
