I thought he was too old anyway.

    Happy dance, happy dance.

Now the Rockets can find a young point guard to form the core of our new dynasty.

I don't care who we sign as long as it's not Derek Fisher.

Remember, JVG said we didn't need a "star" PG, just someone who was consitant and didn't turn the ball over.

daniels would've been nice. barry too. what shocks me about this article is that the rockets were looking to add daniels, NOT barry.

i would count out the other big name FA's like fish and hudson too. it looks like the game plan is to avoid this crazy spending.

Why not Fisher?? He's a veteran who plays like a team player. He understands that he's not the 1st, 2nd, or even the 3rd option in the offense. Just distribute the ball and be ready to hit a big shot when it's needed.

The guy is a winner in a team concept.

    Damon Jones.

On the expensive side, TE for Eric Snow.

Have you seen Fisher's shooting lately? If you think Francis had a low FG%, this is not the guy for you. He just doesn't hit open jumpers like he used to. He's also never been much of a passer. He's a decent defender, but still gets killed by quicker guards. Heck, Mike Bibby landed a max extension by thoroughly abusing Fisher in the playoffs a few years back.

In short, Fisher is Steve Francis without the explosiveness off the dribble, but doesn't hog the ball. Reminds me a bit of Kenny Smith, and that's NOT a compliment.

Because of all the people remaining, he (and Eric Snow - equally awful) will be the oldest, will want the most money, and is the least talented.

I don't give a crap if he happened to play alongside 2 of the best players on the planet and inherited a tremendous opportunity.

As soon as he stops riding on Shaq and Kobe's coattails, he'll be the same mediocre player getting paid more at the end of his career than at his prime, which was probably 2 years ago.

Other than Yao, every major contributer on this team will have played in the league for 5 years or more, some of whom are 9 or 10 year veterans.

The only thing this team needs is a warm body to fill the PG position. We shouldnt give a long-term contract for a player whose best years are probably behind him.

Is there any possibility of getting Snow?

Fisher, based on earlier quotes, is most likely looking for crazy money.
    Snow's contract sucks.
Hudson is not a good fit.
    Barry doesn't like us.
    Arroyo and Alston are gone.

    *sigh*

    Damon Jones wins by default.

So Barry would go to SA to start at 2 guard and Ginobili, fresh off his 9M per year contract, would be a BENCH player? Ridiculous.

San Antonio doesnt make any sense for Barry. And Portland while the money would be there and perhaps the opportunity, he wouldnt have the chance at a title.

Makes me wonder if Houston ISNT offering the 4th year that Barry wants. Otherwise I dont understand why he would not want to come here.

And adding insult to injury, we wouldnt get a crack at Antonio Daniels either if Barry leaves according to that article.

Makes me wonder who the Rockets are really looking at at PG!

Free agent gave up money in Portland

Unrestricted free agent guard Brent Barry will sign a four-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs for between $20 and $22 million, a source told ESPN's David Aldridge.

The 32-year-old Barry chose the Spurs over a four-year offer for the full mid-level exception from the Portland Trail Blazers, in part because he thought the Spurs were closer to contending for a championship. Barry also turned down a three-year offer worth $18 million from his former team, the Seattle Sonics, wanting a four-year offer.

Barry's signing completes a strong 48-hour period for the Spurs; they agreed to terms on Thursday with guard Manu Ginobili. The Spurs will now have a three-guard rotation of Tony Parker, Ginobili and Barry, who can play both guard positions.

The Spurs are now expected to complete their offseason spending by re-signing forward Bruce Bowen, who opted out of the last year of his contract. Bowen is expected to receive a three-year deal from San Antonio worth $9 million.

Now that the Sonics have lost Barry, discussions they were having with the Rockets about trading guard Antonio Daniels for draft picks probably will end as well.

Actually the guy least likely to be our starter Lue could win by default. Good think he decided not to opt out.

We could easily end up with Lue being our starter pg.
    Maybe we were too optimistic.

I hope all this talk about free agents banging down the Rockets' door isn't just BS...

That said, I still think there are some cheaper quality players out there.
