I have to say I'm with those who think that sitting out the big name PG game is a good idea: we're going to be coming into a season where our coach is going to have to learn (pretty much) all new players (again)....I think if we could just land somebody "utility" for the season and see exactly what we've got, it would be much better than TOTALLY revamping the lineup and finding out too late that too much stirring has spoiled the souffle....I doubt that the Magic planned on going 1-19 (not that that has anything to do with much except that it DID happen)....there's a lot of young talent out there that (I'm sure) could shine with the M&M :D combo if it comes down to laying out mass $$$ for aged, sort-of-big-name vets....haven't we been through that before??? If it's a disaster we can always make trades until, what, February....?

I wonder if we could get Jones for half the MLE and get either Ostertag or Keon Clark for the other half? Then we have the TE to really work on building depth.

I don't think we'll be able to pull that off, judging by all of the big contracts going out to marginal role players.

I think we may just wait it out and wait for teams to run out of cap room and pick at the leftovers. Doesn't get me too excited either, but that's what it's starting to look like.

It appears that the Rockets may not have been anywhere near the top of Barry's wish list. We were shocked to be listed behind SA and Portland, but it looks like the Rockets weren't even third on his list. The link and part of the article:

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/basketball/nba/spurs/stories/MYSA071104.1C.Spurs.2b8985c3.html

From the first day of his free agency, Barry had the Spurs atop his list of possible destinations. He chose them over Portland and Golden State, who offered more money, and a lesser, yet still lucrative, contract from Seattle, though Marks warned him come August he will appreciate keeping a home in California.

I'm starting to wonder if the Rockets ever actually gave him any offer at all beyond some kind of initial greetings and gauging of interest in each other. I can fully understand his wanting to go to the Spurs, especially now that Shaq and Kobe are divorcing, but Portland and Golden State? Over a chance at Yao and TMac? The Rockets must've not made an offer, or at least not a significant one.

I guess the Rockets took a gamble that Seattle was going to be able to resign Barry so they could trade AD. Personally, I would not have put my eggs in that basket as I would have expected Barry to go somewhere else. They need to beat the bushes for a good reserve to trade for or just sign a min player to backup Lue. The FA PG market has dried up for anyone other than the min.

Its possible that the Rockets took no gamble at all with Barry. Possibly just because so many of us wanted Barry didn't mean that JVG wanted Barry.

I agree that we at the bbs were going after BB but it looks like the Rockets were going after AD. But in order for SEA to trade AD, they needed to resign BB. I saw SEA's resigning of BB at less than a 50/50 chance.

Does this mean that every palyer in the league is not desperate to play with our new super hero tandem? What next, will players no longer accept rediculously low salaries, just for the chance to play on the Rockets guaranteed future championships? Will GM's no longer offer us great players for our TE and a second rounder, just because they must get something in return as opposed to lettingt he inevitable talent drain continue to go to the Rockets. Oh the humanity!
