So older players should be more concerned about the legacy (ie, what others think about them) than doing what they love and making money? What a horrible way to live life.
No, but it kills the game. It's a good thing that Houston and Miller decided to hang it up for good. I believe players retire because their time has passed and their bodies just can't take a beating from an NBA season. Coming back wouldn't be so smart. Let the younger and fresher bodies play. I understand retirement is a hard thing. I know many people who are newly retired and are having a hard time adjusting to not having to work, but for the most part, retirement is their best bet.
There's a difference between Michael Jordan's original return when he was in his prime and his second return when he was years past his prime, which was the comeback that Yaozer was clearly talking about.
If the players can still play, and they love to play and there is market for them why not? They should be allowed to play. And they can teach the young players something. The only way it hurts the game is if they clearly can't contribute yet teams use them as a centerpiece. If they can contribute positively there there is no reason they shouldn't play if they want to.
That's funny because I don't even remember his Wizard days until someone brings it up. All I remember is him destroying everyone on the planet as a Bull.
How does it kill the game? They are only going to play if they are better than the other options on those teams. If that's the case, it only improves the team. If they aren't any good, they'll sit on the bench.
Dana Barros in the early NBA Live series is crazy. IIRC his 3-pt average is always over 50%. All you had to do is to make him bring the ball upcourt and then press the shoot button just before he reached the arc of the other teams.
The newer rules enable it for quicker mostly smaller players to be more effective. Hand checking was allowed in the NBA during his time. Now that defenders cannot use their hands, and the league now with its current lack of shooters, Barros can utilize this to his advantage, while giving a team an additional outside threat.
