I feel so bad for Arenas having to take 14 million dollars less and only getting 111 million  In a way its funny but if Yao and T-Mac gave back a few Mil we could get that 3rd scoring Superstar ;)

See, thats the thing...in that example he used multiple exceptions to illistrate the point, but I think it would count on ANY exceptions you still have available.

for example, a team is 6 million under the cap in real salaries and they still have the MLE and the LLE available to be used....add the two exceptions together and add it to the "real" salaries already on the books to put them back over the cap.

If a team was say 7 million under cap and all they had was the MLE, since the MLE is right at 6M, they would not have enough to reach the cap and as such would not have the MLE available because they are under the cap by more than the amount of said exception.

I think Pigto was basically right, he jsut didnt state it very well.

NOW, we both know Im not the smartest cap guy out here, so my take could be massively flawed....I wish aaelliot or heyp would chime in on this one.

Since he failed to come back and respond after each of us put more effort into this than he did, I am not going to give him the benefit of the doubt and will say that he is wrong.

Since you are more charitable, you can give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he just worded it poorly.

I think there's 1 really big reason Gilbert Arenas got such a big contract besides being an All Star and insane clutch shooter when the clock hits zero. Washington hasn't really been a destination any star free agents have wanted to go. If they don't at least try and build their team around Gilbert, who can they? MJ's in Charlotte now. ;) Obviously nobody else this summer, but i think they already have a decent gauge where next year's class wants to go and Washington probably didn't turn up on anyone's radar. It's one of those situations where you overpay 1 guy to help attract others. I believe that was the thinking by many the 1st time they signed him, not expecting him to be an All Star.

Sometimes we take for granted how players dating back to Drexler, Barkley, Pippen, Francis, T-Mac, etc all wanted to come to Houston. I'm sure Rashard Lewis wasn't alone either, we just couldn't afford him as it's well known and probably for the better if we paid him what he's getting. I just can't recall anyone dying to play for Washington or begging to be drafted or traded to them. :(

As for Arenas taking the huge paycut to better the team as a whole, i use that line all the time at the bar and it works great! :D

seems to happen far too often on subjects that have actual "meat" rather than all the "potato" threads that seem to dominate here. :(

Eh, it was a moment of weakness, you know that aint SOP for me. ;)

Remember how GS got Barron, New Orleans basically gave him away for nothing. They got tired of tieing up so much money in a guy who was injured all the time.

And also remember who ownes the Wizards, Abe Pollen - the guy who paid that huge contract to Juwan Howard. I guess I just work for the wrong person.

Oh, I know that so well. The Mac Thread in the Hangout had the same problem.

I can't do that because it is against my nature.
