Charles Barkley is funny i like him....but he is wrong on this. Rockets are A LOT better than the Kings.

but i do give charles barkley credit for predicting that the magic would beat cavs last season. <----all the "experts" didnt see this except for him

 

We're already known as the team that forced the NBA to institute the draft when we tanked to draft Olajuwon from the University of Houston.

Although doubtless the rule would have gone into affect in future drafts, its still very embarassing to be known as "that team".

Regardless, tanking is NEVER EVER EVER an option. Other teams are still depending on your wins and losses for their playoff status and as a fan I'd be absolutely furious to watch a hopeless team affect my team's playoff team because they just don't care anymore.

Barkley is an idiot for making that statement anyway. The majority of NBA fans fully expect McGrady to be back at 80%. Regardless of his playoff ,failures, a Mac lead team has never missed the playoffs when he manages to stay mostly healthy. Secondly, Drexler might be going overboard when he says Aaron Brooks could be an All-Star when he'll have to beat out superstars Paul and Williams, but I understand what he means. He is going to be awesome. Thirdly we have Luis Scola who is a legit superstar overseas and I feel safe saying this will be his best year as a professional NBA player. Add that to our super role players Battier, Lowry, Landry, et al. We have professionals, not rookies learning the game.

But he also said Yao would never score 20 points in a game.

 

It landed us hakeem, the spurs duncan, the cavs lebron, orlando d howard. Lets look at the conference final 4 last year: nuggets, lakers, cavs, magic. 3 of those 4 teams sucked and got a real good player. You don't win with role players never have never will.

I don't see what's so wrong with tanking, especially if you KNOW you won't be going to the playoffs. Not tanking (thanks JVG) is why we don't have Brandon Roy on this team.

Its not the tanking itself that's the problem, once you suck enough to be considered as tanking its hard to stop tanking. Nuggets, Spurs, Cavs and Orlando all got good players, but Hawks, Sacramento, Bobcats, Pacers etc. have all been getting lottery picks for the past several years now and they still suck.

Miami got the 2nd draft pick, and even if they have Dwade they're probably ending in the lottery again.

Its not a coincidence, you won't get into the lottery unless you suck, and unless you get that real transcendental pick you won't stop sucking for a really long time. Blazers lucked into Oden after getting Broy, LMA and Fernandez and they still had to wait a couple of years before they got to the playoffs.

If McGrady isn't back by late-December, there is no chance we make the playoffs. Heck, even if he is back I doubt we make the playoffs. No one has ever come back from microfracture and made a significant return to form in his first year. T-Mac surely isn't going to be the first to do so.

You should just end your post there because there is no chance in hell you lay down a G that this team makes the playoffs.

Yeah, I would. People fail to realize that this team is going to have problems scoring and keeping teams under 100ppg.

 

Uhhh in your opinion. I think our defense will still be solid. Our offense will improve as we adjust to the new tempo and Ariza gains chemistry with the rest of the team. A 75% healthy T-Mac gets this team to the playoffs.

 

Yeah, it is my opinion after taking off the Rockets Red colored glasses and looking at reality. It's only been 2 games, but we're giving up 101.5ppg. Yeah, our defense will still be solid

We have no inside defensive presence to stop bigger post players or driving guards. Our guards can't handle that all season as we've seen in the first two games. We have no one that has ever averaged more than 12.7ppg and no go to guy in crunch time. Of course we're going to improve over the course of the season as chemistry builds and the team learns the system, but you have to also recognize that other teams will be doing the same thing. We're a roster of role players. You simply do not win in this league without stars and you damn sure don't go to the playoffs.

As for T-Mac, he'll be lucky to be 80-85 percent by the end of the season. Even then, he won't be digging us out of a 10-15 games under .500 hole. Not with this roster.

Let's see how confident you are in another month.

 

Who cares what Barkley says! However, the fact remains we are a small team now that we dont have Yao and TMAC. We will have to rely on our outside game, since we will have a very limited inside game. I am hoping the rockets somehow can trade for a big man before the trade deadline. I dont think we will make the playoffs but we wont finish last, Adelman is still a very good coach.
