it's totally ok to drop the weights on cleans especially heavy cleans provided they use bumper plates.
He was cheating! his feet hit the ground when he should've been building his core by keeping his legs elevated (@ 21 secs)! haha This trainer is terrible, she is not noticing or correcting the errors Chuck is making. Those types of errors can lead to severe back problems. This workout is a joke, it has as much potential to do harm to a person as losing the weight. In my opinion, go for the Insanity workout!
So you are saying that you are built like a professional football player? Because those are the biggest fastest athletes in sports. And even most professional football players couldn't out run people that do any kind of serious biking or long distance running.
seriously that is some of the worst forms on cleans I have ever seen. Especially by Chuck he could throw out his back so easily
This works, this is a hardcore workout that keeps your heart rate up and they will lose weight. Everyone saying that Barkley should do this and do that instead... are sitting in front of their computer most likely without a six pack.
haha that was the first thing i noticed. well not really. first i was looking for "would hit" ladies. nothing more annoying than the weights hitting the floor on every rep.
I can't watch the video, but I've been doing Crossfit since December, and I've lost 32 pounds, and increased my general fitness a lot. It's the best thing I've ever tried for getting into shape. If he sticks with it, Chuck will do great with it.
I found it and watched it on my phone. You're right, his clean form is terrible, but I don't think it would get him hurt. He won't be able to lift very much weight that way, but his form will get better. On a work-out like that, you're just trying to do as much work as possible in the time frame, and the weight is kept light enough to not hurt you with form issues. Besides, olympic weightlifting has the lowest injury rate of any kind of resistance training. He should be okay.
A friend of mine swears by crossfit...he's older than I am and got hurt...but went back after he healed up...IMHO, its for younger people...
I am not saying I am better than everyone else or built like a football player. I am 5'8" 165lbs. I am just saying Crossfit gets you in really good shape if you have a good trainer. That trainer that Barkley was working with should have not given him the workout for the Crossfit Open.
I think that's because it's something people won't do unless they're ready for it, not because it's that safe or safer. The problem with Barkley's form, whether he's using light weight or not, is that he's using his back too much. The weight itself may not be enough to hurt him, but the reps are going to tighten that back because that's all he's using.
I was just taught in football never to throw your weights like that even if it is bumper weights, since if you can't hold onto it the whole time you probably aren't doing it right. Guess it just seems odd to me.
Maybe they should give Barkley some cash <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4c4v_5jsoJ0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
