Taco Johns is not even close to "mexican food" Most places up north have no concept of good Mexican cuisine and thats a shame. My relatives in North Dakota have nowhere they could get it. The food up there is awful compared to Calimex or Texmex. The grease filled abominations they make at Burger King would qualify that establishment to be a certified "Mexican place" if Taco Johns' "food" is the standard.
Never heard of Taco Johns. I can relate to the mexican food north of here. Obviously I've been to Memphis a few times and they have nothing that even passes as mexican food. We went to this one Mission Burrito wannabe and they had a line out the door for seasonless meat. Taco Cabana would make a killing if they started expanding more.
We had one of those in my home town. Not bad if there were no other choices, but not great by any means...
Taco Cabana is if you're looking for a chain, but there are tons around here. Fast food, taco trucks, taquerias, tex-mex joints, etc. Need more details and better location details.
For those of you saying Mexican food is not good north of Texas, you just haven't looked in the right spot. There is good Mexican food around my parts, so good in fact that it made me stop eating at Taco Hell.
Del Taco >>>>>>> Taco Bell Maybe I just went to a good one (Baker, CA) but I liked it more than the 3 or 4 In-N-Out's I went to.
Could be. The Del Tacos around where I grew up were so bad that only old white people who didn't know what Mexican Food was supposed to taste like ate there. Not only was the food questionable, but they employed people who looked like they were homeless.
I'm not familiar with that area, but the Houston Press just ranked the top 10 taco trucks in Houston. The one nearest you is Westheimer @ Fondren. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2009/07/houstons_top_ten_taco_trucks.php
Wow I need to get out of the house more often and experience these taco trucks... Didn't know Houston was this awesome!!!

Yep, I love them also. They actually still have them at my local Taco Bell... it's a secret though, you have to ask a certain way (it's sorta like a code) and then they make it for you... only costs about $1.20.. or somewhere around there.
