We need a PF and considering we dont know if we can trade for one, Mcdyess is pretty much the only PF we have a reallistic chance to go after. My first choice would be Sheed, but looks like he is happy in Detroit and is playing well for them. Any proposals for swift will be matched by the logo. Detroit says theyre deadset on trying to resign okur, not to mention sheed, and he is probably too slow to play PF neways. Im pretty sure none of you guys want kenyon martin on this team. It would be great if we could pull a trade for elton brand or maybe donyell marshall, but we never know. None of us actually want Mcdyess as our PF, but considering our options we can make a run at him with our MLE and hope he plays like his former self or close to his former self.

McDyess started the final 13 games for the Suns last season averaging 8.7 points, 8.3 boards and 1 block in just short of 30 minutes a night while shooting 53.8% from the field. Now I know these numbers are far from what they used to be, but considering that he was coming off major knee surgery, I think I'd make a run at him. If he'd accept the MLE I think I'd give it to him, with a whole summer of workouts, I think he could be close to 15 and 10 next year.

i think mcdyess would be worth a risk if it's no more than 3 mil per. i like his work ethic and the way he played..i know we're not getting the same mcdyess as years past..but it's worth taking a risk. afterall...i'm pretty sure he can't do no worse than piatkowski

Name me a PF AVAILABLE who has a better track record than McDyess.

He also is good at hitting the open 15 ft jumper.

name me a power forward who has successfully played on one knee

his fitness/health is a very serious issue to consider before signing him.... there is a reason he is mentioned in BARGAIN free agent list

This team should enough heart, character and chemistry during the season and the short playoff run, that i think the core of the team should stay together. We need a power forward who could shoot the 15 footer, especially when YAO is double teamed and the ball is swung......right now when the ball is swung, cato ends up with the ball 15 away from the hoop where he has no idea what do with it. He waits for the guards to come get the ball from him, which basically destroys that offensive set. Cato needs to come off the bench.

I think the perfect fit for this offense would beMehmet Okur......He has shown the ability over the past couple of years to hit the open shot, he is a good rebounder.....plus like most european players he has good fundamentals. He averages 12.4 rebounds per 48 mins played. I could really see him flourishing in the houston system....where he will get open shots every night. He played with Ben Wallace, who is a great defensive player but there is no need to double Ben on the offensive end....so Mehmet really didnt get that many open shots. Plus we should be able to afford him.

MCDYESS will be another bad contract in line with Cato, Mo, Brent Price (are we still paying him), Spoon.........maybe even worse if he cant play because of his knee.

There is pretty much no chance of us getting okur so you can forget about it. We only have the MLE and he will command more then the MLE. Other teams with cap room will have interest in him and Joe Dumars already stated that he will match any offer for him since they have considerable cap room, but there is a small possibility that the pistons use too much money to resign sheed and dont have enough to sign okur.

Realistically Mcdyess is our best option for a complete forward via free agency. All we can hope is that he is able to recover some more during the summer and play somewhat like his former self.

    33 Brent Barry, SEA 59 30.6 342 5.8 139 2.4 9.1 2.46

    My wish list.

    1. Gary Payton ... Ummm, this guy is going to be a free agent ... very soon, after san antonio spanks the fakers. We could use the MLE, and I would give it all to GP. He could get a slightly bigger role than his at the lakers. 3 guard rotation. Hell, trade Mobley for a powerfoward, and let Boki play some 2.
    2. Damon Jones. Solid. The bucks should be getting TJ ford back, and Jones would be nice fit.
    3. Rafer Alston.

Either Way I think the Rocks should package Mo T and Mobly for a power foward upgrade. I dont have any ideas on that one.

Excellent post. If we look at the list of teams that are, say 5 million under the cap, we might be able to steal some good talent from them by trading the TE, just so that they can get 12 million under the cap and make a run at an impact free agent.

Otherwise, somewhere on the list from whiplashtony's post is a diamond or two in the rough, which we could mine into an impact player. Watch the Rocs sign one, and everyone jokingly say "splash!" But the pickup could be like the Mario Elie pickup - everybody yawned, but he was a key piece that put us over the top.

I think having a trade excetion for a team under the cap is worthless. If your under the cap you can not use it.

Are you kidding me? Etan Thomas not only had better production than Cato in categories like ppg, bpg and fg%, but he put up almost identical numbers in rpg and ft%, while coming off the bench the majority of the time.

Everything I've read about the guy points to him being good fit for a team like Houston.

    Bob -
Not exactly. You are correct in that teams can have cap space or exceptions but can not use both. However, an under the cap team sending a $4m-5m contract to the Rockets clears that much more off of their payroll. A team with $10m in cap room is probably not a player in the Kobe sweepstakes. A team with $14m-$15m in space probably is.

Something is similar for teams just under the cap...say $38m-$43m. That's basically MLE $. The team with $38m committed can send the Rockets an excess of $5m in contracts, renounce the MLE and voila...they now have $10m in cap room.

Huh, Funny to see Divac's name on the list with a bunch of point guards. What do you think Divac as Yao's back up?

The last thing I want is a soft center to "mentor" Yao. I also don't want him to be teaching Yao to smoke cigs.

He did that in the East, against bums. Thomas would be put in his place facing the West big men.

Exactly... He isn't really high-risk if you don't give him anything more than 2 years at about 3 mill per. I didn't realize that it was a huge risk. Seeing how this is the franchise that gave long-term contracts to Matt Maloney, Moochie, Mo and Cato.

McDyess on 1 leg is better than Mo or Cato on 2 legs.

Neither has Mo... At least we would be assured that one of them is healthy...
