He's really got it all offensively, except maybe that he could be better as a playmaker. (But with Nash on your team, does he really have to?) He's best on the open court, and that is why he wouldn't be best in a jvg style offense. His 3's are money.. have been for past few years.
DAMNIT, why do the suns have everything: A MVP candidate, 2 allstars, lockdown sg, young stars, expirings and THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS... Im going to throw up... GET IT DONE CD!!!
in a somewhat unrelated topic...do you think the magic are still kicking themselves over accepting HOU's: francis, cat, cato package over PHX's: Marion, Johnson, picks package? Howard Marion Hill/Turkoglu Johnson Nelson not too shabby
Dawson was good. Colangelo was an absolute genius. Look at how quickly he turned around Toronto! Phoenix won't do so well as they move forward without him. They reap the benefits of his moves for one more draft (getting the additional picks, including Atlanta's). Keep in the back of your mind though that they are set to have $80+ million on the books next year if they take those 3 draft picks. Starver's not shown much of a willingness to go into lux tax land, and given the consistent rumblings of a Marion/Stoudamire issue, it could be that they partially strip down this team. Evan
I would love to have barabosa on our team. Imagine hiim running the point on our team. He can create for himslef, shot open threes, he can dish but isnt needed to in phoenix. Having barbosa, tmac, battier, hayes, and yao in our startin line up would help our guard situation, improve our bench and much more. I did have a question, does ne 1 know what number picks phoenix has and are they likely to pick players or trade the picks and what would we have to do to get one?
Barbosa is a very good player, but he is hardly a real PG, he is more of a scoring guard, and a very very good one. The pace that Phoenix plays at and the attention that others get when he is on the floor help him immensly, I believe if he was on a team where he had to carry the load his impact would be vastly diminished. The point about V-Span, is that I believe that given playing time and a couple of years in the league to get his confidence, V-Span can have this type of impact on the Rockets. DD
agree, see Tim Thomas if you want to know how the Suns style can help someone. This being said Barbosa is a hell of a player.
don't forget Cat as a guard has good ability to create in the post with his back to the basket. he's a legitimate post up option when the matchups are there. never seen barbosa work from the post.
There's a difference. Mobley had a quick first step but Barbosa has a quick first step, a quicker second step and a blazing third step.
Barbosa would be enough of a PG for the Rockets. He has good handles and doesn't turn the ball over that much. He also is a fantastic off the ball shooter and cutter to the lane working off of Tmac and Yao. He would be like a combination of Kenny Smith (secure with the ball, handing it off in the half court, spotting up, occasional run outs) and Clyde (cutting, fast break easy points, and yes, eyes out of the top of his head where he dribbles with his head down where you think he will charge into folks or lose the ball but just doesn't very often). Yeah he wouldn't see much of his open floor game with Yao, but there would be some uptempo units with him and he would punish teams who sent more people in to ORB instead of getting back. But yeah it is a pipe dream. I have been telling folks how good he is all year. He really does give Phx another dimensional, and him just getting better and more integrated in that team along with Amare coming back makes this the most difficult Suns team to contend with they have had.
Phx would be a lot better than people think over the medium to short term without Nash. Now short term losing Nash it screws up their usual roles--but that is a very talented team that would find new ways to be effective without him over time.
barbs is a scorer. when he is asked to distribute and run the team things to get sketchy. lol. i can see that
I think that is because of how much Phx relies on Nash and their roles are defined around them. But Barbosa handles the ball well and has decent (not Nash like) court vision. I don't think Tony Parker or Agent Zero or Jason Terry could pick up for where Nash leaves off either, but all these guys as well as Barbosa would be just fine as the Rockets point guard, where creating for others is not a primary responsibility.
