There has been a Bush or Dole on the ticket since 1976. Look for Liddy Dole to take the Republican VP spot. You heard it here first. My early and uneducated guess prediciton is Obama/Schweitzer beats Huckabee/Dole and it aint even close.
I agree with all of that, almost completely. And a Gore/Obama ticket makes more sense to me than any other with Obama as VP. But apart from the Edwards/Obama ticket feeling backwards, particularly with regard to heft, I can see him taking the VP slot for just about any Dem that gets the nomination. (Does Biden/Obama really seem that unfathomable? Not to me.) That's all assuming he wouldn't get it if he decided to run and I agree with kos and serious on that. If he runs, he wins.
he left out one overwhelming factor: money. HC will enter the race with a huge advantage in that regard.
Not true. She just spent 30 mil in NY for no reason whatsoever and gave up her superhuman advantage. The day Obama or Gore decides to run, they can make up the gap in no time.
Don't discount Obama's fundraising abilities. It is part of why Clinton is so scared of him. He is really the only one who can match her abilities there.
"If I was president I'd be elected on Friday Assassinated on Saturday Buried on Sunday If I was president If I was president..." Who knew Barack was a Wyclef fan.
A good question for HRC: Which has more power: VP or Senator? A HRC VP would not be a bad thing. Cracking the Presidential race and gender barriers at the same time would make victory harder for the Dems, but still very doable. 2008, Can't wait.
That race would be fun as hell and totally unexpected. Schweitzer should be on anyone's VP list and I think he would buy Montana for Obama, but I rather expect Obama would be looking for someone to balance the knock that he's unexperienced. Schweitzer is as green as he is if not more. Then again, maybe the strategy's a full bore new blood one, in which case Schweitzer is perfect by any accounting. Huckabee is also an interesting pick. And the race for the religious right vote will likely be decided between him and Brownback if it becomes clear that Romney's Mormonism is too big a pill for them to swallow. But Liddy Dole? I doubt it. She looked horrible during the 06 cycle, figuratively and literally. Her face is seizing up on her and she just looks weird as hell on TV. She's also got the stink of loser on her from this last election. But I don't know. Stranger things have happened to be sure. I do agree Obama would win that in a walk though.
bejezuz -- please don't twist a quote like that. if you're doing it to make fun of me or something, that's fine....but to quote me to say that?? seriously, i'm not real cool with that.
I guess I assumed Edwards might have more weight/experience, in that he was selected as the VP nominee last time. I'd be fine with Obama/Edwards, then. I like both of those guys.
I agree with serious, and you, that Obama as VP with Gore is very possible, if Gore runs. (and I would be delighted if he did, although I know many would rather he stay out) Obama could run as VP with Hillary, but I don't want her at the top of the ticket. Edwards just doesn't do enough for me. I'm in the camp that Obama could win if nominated. Of course, I've been saying that for some time. Who knows, maybe I'll be as on target as I was about the midterm elections. I was more optimistic than anyone here, and we even exceeded my most realistic hopes. I think the country is ready for dramatic change. Obama as President would certainly be that, and a very positive one. D&D. What's Color? A Name.
Obama/Richardson would be cool too. Turns NM red and probably AZ too and gives us a black/Latino ticket which balances new blood with experience. Nobody but nobody has a better resume than Richardson who has been Secretary to the UN, Energy Secretary, US Representative and Governor.
Nope. She spent 30 mil in the last race and raised a lot of eyebrows with donors who had given her that money in order to make her a prohibitive favorite for the 08 nomination.
absolutely true. no one aside from obama can touch clinton in fundraising. (i dont think gore is going to run). however i still think clinton would have a significant advantage. obama can come close...but he'd have to win a couple after iowa to match her. you can't under estimate the clintons in raising money. plus yes she spent a lot in the senatorial race. but she still has considerably more than anyone else. and i'd imagine she has support from her top donors that allowed her to spend so carelessly this cycle. all that being said...how can gore/obama not get democrats excited. finally a responsible educated and articulate ticket. that being said im not sure if obama with an experienced VP isn't a better option. i just can't think of the right guy/gal.
Gore/Obama makes perfect sense wrt the war as both rightfully opposed the war when it wasn't popular to do so. Until Gore gets in, Obama's my guy. If Gore enters, my vote's up for grabs. Small correction, but if memory serves you weren't quite the most optimistic here on Dems in 06. I cautiously predicted they'd take the Senate for months.
He was in New York yesterday for a fundraiser and privately talking to a few big pocket dems. And none of them have publicly endorsed anyone at this point.
That would be a crazy ticket! Middle America just might find that too hard to wrap their brains around. I'd certainly vote for them, however. Agree, Max. I've seen far too much of that in my day. Don't even want to go there in jest. D&D. Change... more than Coins in your Pocket.
Richardson has been on my short list for vp for years, but lately I just don't think it's going to happen.
