Oh, I don't have a problem with her. I should have made that clear. She's one of the few refreshing things about the light-show "news" that has become CNN. It's Greenfield, the supposed "national political expert," who ticked me off. He ticked me off when I saw him do it on CNN. The post wasn't the first time I was aware of it, just a reminder of something disgustingly sensational, from a news outlet I used to respect. Now, it's become almost as much of a joke as Fox, about as bad a thing as I can say about any news outlet. D&D. Moos!
But you've got to admit! This was brilliant! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8WJsuM19-8c"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8WJsuM19-8c" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
not to rain on your parade, but what do youreally know about him? i mean other than he's a charismatic black democrat- so's al sharpton. does that really qualify one to be president. i'm not saying he's not all that, i'm just saying how can you know, at this early stage. this strikes me as somewhat akin to the unexamined enthusiasm that greeted dean when he first burst on the primary scene. take the time to really get to know the guy- once he's fully vetted, and we know what he stands for, if the enthusiasm is warranted- cool.
I really don't have time (the game just started!) to respond now, but I'll just quickly say that it was something I felt in my gut the first time I heard him speak. I'll get back to this, basso. D&D. Beat the Lakers!
So you are basing it on 'gut'. Nice. Isn't that what you libs attacked President George W. Bush for doing? Making decisions based on gut? How hypocritical of you. No cred... Moving on, once people do in fact start sizing up Hussein Obama on the issues, it will become clear that he is JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL, albeit a half black liberal who was educated in a Muslim school, but still JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL. He is pro-abortion, pro gay marriage, and pro-partial birth abortion. JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL. He favors protectionist measures for the economy, is for increasing taxes, is weak on terror, and wants to take away your guns. JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL.
The question mark at the end of the sentence is the operative symbol as it indicates a question directed towards you rather than a declarative sentence that indicates my opinion. I don't think he's Muslim but then again I don't really care. But why do you insist on pointing out this supposed discovery of yours repeatedly almost as if it is a mark of shame or a mark that diminishes his stature as a candidate?
He knows more about him than you do about Condoleeza Rice who you have glowingly endorsed for president years ago.
Still no link for your made up "rumor." No surprise. But dude, even you can't be dumb enough to think you can get a slanderous rumor started from a basketball BBS. Or can you? Yeah, you probably can.
I've posted at least one speech from Obama here and read and/or watched many others. I've also read a great lot about him. To suggest that all anyone would know about him at this point is that he's charismatic and black is beyond stupid. I also posted very enthusiastically about Dean long before he "burst" onto the primary scene. The conventional wisdom about Obama being a question mark is probably true for the average American who is not a junkie for political news, but it is stupid with regard to most of the people that post here. The only real question mark about Obama right now is how he'll be as a candidate since he's never faced a serious challenge in a general election. His positions on most issues are well known. The insinuation that Dean was a question mark is just weird though. I posted about his positions and biography when he was polling at about 1%. And then there's what Sam said about your bizarre Condoleezza love. Her positions on virtually every single issue are a complete mystery. All we know about her is that she's a black woman so loyal to Bush that she sometimes accidentally thinks she's married to him and that she's made a bollocks of State. And you couldn't endorse her fast enough.
Some guy named Adam Yoshida : Canada Free Press : Press It is all over the place. Obama has no chance. Even without his name and heritage it was stacked against him but combine his name, background, our current times, Rove/Republican tactics and he will be crucified (pun intended) before ever getting elected. And, yes, the name game is a voting issue.
So the only connection is that he might have gone to school in Indonesia and that he's a member of UCC. There are at least 4 or 5 senators alone that are members of UCC (democrat and republican) so I'm sure that they aren't Muslim. I find this to be a large leap of faith to go from being a member of a liberal church which passed to resolutions at a large meeting (which Obama was not at) to all of a sudden being a closet Muslim that will exploit that for political purposes. And how in the world did that article make the leap from being a member of a liberal Christian church to becoming a Muslim. Very ridiculous assertion in my opinion and it would be downright suicide to attack someone's faith publicly as a campaign strategy. In fact if the Republicans tried that, I guarantee they get crushed in the polls for something like that. You can swift boat someone's war record but swift boating someone's faith is asking for an ass-kicking.
I agree completely that Obama's name and heritage will get a great deal of play from Roveian types in the GOP and their dumb racist dork followers like Jorge. But I think basso's got this question mark thing backwards. The American people don't, by and large, yet know Obama. And when people get to know him they like him. They like him, they believe him, they trust him and they want to be near him. This is the stuff upon which presidential elections are decided. Now, there may be something else in his past that we don't yet know about -- personally, politically or legislatively -- but barring that (and I doubt he's stupid enough to get in if there is anything real in his closet), I'm giving the American people the benefit of the doubt simply because he is so damned likeable, so damned right and also, apparently, so damned real. I didn't honestly doubt there was a fake rumor out there. I was only trying to get Jorge to post links to the nutjobs spreading it. Thanks for taking care of it for him. These guys are loonier than Fox or Drudge and they are so loony that those guys aren't even touching this crap even while they would have to be terrified by Obama to the point of printing virtually anything. It's not real (as they know, as you know and as Jorge knows) and Obama is the sort of guy that actually awakens an idealism in me strong enough to combat my usual cynicism. Not you? Too bad. Maybe later.
More support for the rumor that Obama is secretly Muslim: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1189687/posts "Fiction: Obama was given an 'African' name. Fact: Obama is a Muslim who has concealed his religion. I am a strong supporter of the Muslim community, and I believe Muslims have been scapegoated. Obama has a great opportunity to be forthright. Instead, he has treated his Muslim heritage as a dark secret. His grandfather was named 'Hussein.' That is an Arabic-Muslim, not African, name. Hussein was a devout Muslim and named his son, Barack Senior, 'Baraka.' Baraka is an Arabic word meaning 'blessed.' Baraka comes out of the Koran and Arabic, not Africa. "Barack Senior was also a devoted Muslim, and also chose a Muslim name for his son, our own Barack Obama, Junior. Again, his name was an Arabic and Koranic. Obama has spent a lifetime running from his family heritage and religious heritage. Would his father have given his son a Koranic name if the father was not a devout Muslim? Obama's stepfather was also a Muslim. Obama will be the first Muslim-heritage senator; he should be proud of that fact. There is nothing to be ashamed of in any of the three great Abrahamic religions.
Anyone else read this and laugh uncontrollably? Batman credentializing himself by taking credit for identifying the biggest political flame-out in recent memory.... How'd that work out for you? YEEEEEAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH
I watched Hardball last night with John Edwards. He seemed sort of annoyed with Obama. (Obama did steal his message of "hope." ) I think it could come down to Edwards and Obama. I can't see them on a ticket together, however. They would both need some experience on the bottom of the ticket. Maybe a Wes Clark or Bob Kerrey...Joe Biden, perhaps.
