Sure, it's less inconceivable, but it's also not something that's completely new, either.

School principals were doing stupid things before the current administration. It just wasn't as likely to be this particular stupid thing. The atmosphere of "with us or against us" has become a lot more prevalent.

But it's still stupid, and I still don't understand why a person (and this principal has no direct connection to the Administration to my knowledge) would want to silence others.

This is America! If you want to act like an idiot, you can! That's what makes this country great!

Nobody ever said he should change his signature they just said it was in very poor taste for him to have that comment as his signature. Having poor taste doesn't mean you should be censored. When I asked did the moderators make him change it, I asked because I hadn't seen/noticed his signature before. I wasn't saying they should delete it or make him change it.

    LOL!

Are you deliberately trying to miss the point?

The sig wasn't brought up in the context of " Should be banned", it was brought in the context of conservatives on here saying that something being offensive should be banned by rights. It was showing hypocrisy in action, in that people were oking this being banned ( and, I presume, the firings that resulted), but had never even mentioned U_T's sig, etc. What people were looking for was consistency; I have yet to see anyone call for U_Ts expulsion.

Criticizing and advocating censorship are two completely different things.

I can criticize idiots for having signatures that rejoice the death of four students or people who post that they hope someone can get a heart attack, just like anyone can criticize this kid's poem.

Oh, I agree, it's not without precedent. Wasn't saying that, as years of research on Huck Finn would disprove...but was asking if there was an increase in the likelyhood of these occurences in reflection of top down climate decrees, wherein we seem to agree.

For the record, I am against censorship of all kinds. For all I care, t_j could have a sig that says "F*** liberals up the a$$ for their pu$$y ways, each and every liberal deserves no better than Berg" and I wouldn't care (and it's not because I can't see his insane rants anymore). As far as I am concerned, it would clearly tell everyone out there exactly who he is, just like u_t's sig does.

It is execrable that anyone was fired over this and anyone involved in that decision needs to be canned post haste.

For a high school kid, that poem is fantastic.

I'll be glad to defend some of the points made in that poem as soon as you address the points made in Zinni's speech. I know it's not as significant as a highschool poem, but see if you can make the time.

That's the funniest thread I've ever read. Here you have liberals complaining about how bad me, bamma, basso, giddyup are, yet when we choose not to participate in a thread (seemingly complying with the libwulls' wishes), they whine and moan and demand that we show up. This is something that I previously proved with Operation Rope-A-Dope. Hilarious. More consistency from the very consistent libwulls.

    Recipe for small worldview:

    1. Take one extremist's viewpoint.
    2. Apply extremist viewpoint to anyone who disagrees with you.
    3. Place in broken oven until bitter and crusty

    You're such a sweetheart.

If I was a tattletale, who would I report this to? Pretty sad when moderators call people idiots...

    Who cares?

Do you deny her right to say it?

    THAT'S the only issue here.

Also shocking (other than TJ's take on this, that is):
'Writers and editors who have spent years translating essays, films, poems, scientific articles and books by Iranian, North Korean and Sudanese authors have been warned not to do so by the U.S. Treasury Department under penalty of fine and imprisonment. Publishers and film producers are not allowed to edit works authored by writers in those nations. The Bush administration contends doing so has the effect of trading with the enemy, despite a 1988 law that exempts published materials from sanction under trade rules.'

Nothing is more vindicating than watching a liberal get shouted down by the authority of a moderator. It's rare, but when it happens, it is glorious. GLORIOUS
