No, I haven't read Ray's book, and I need to get it. I'm still angry with myself for missing his tour (last year?), when he told stories about the Kinks, and himself (and I'm sure Dave, of course), and sang solo. I don't know how many times I've seen the Kinks, although it's been some years since the last time, but they always put on an incredible show, and they were always over 2 hours long. I loved it when they played the Music Hall, with it's good acoustics. I wish Hendrix had been less popular starting out. He always played the Coliseum. Tons of groups played the Music Hall first, and then the Coliseum when they got more popular. (or less popular, lol!)
Saw those guys in concert at the Arena Theatre (I think)...great show, great band!!! Never received enough notoriety, or success.
ya, that guy is martin gore....he sang 'somebody' and 'a question of lust'....he also wrote all their songs
They were very much critically acclaimed though. Actually, it should be are not were because they are still around. They made the list of VH1's "greatest rock bands" and during their segement, they interviewed some guys from Deep Purple. They said that when Kings X would open up for them, they dreaded having to follow their performance every night because it was so good. At that time, none of the people at the show had heard of them and by the end of their short set, they were getting encores. Opening acts aren't supposed to get encores. Vernon Reid (from Living Colour) said they are one of his all time favorite bands. I wish I could have seen them live. They must have been incredible!
Thank you! I couldn't recall the name while I was at work. It was bothering me all day. I checked it out once I got home.
