That is usually the case, but there is at least one song where extra effeminate one, who kind of looks like cupid on the cover of 'Catching Up With Depeche Mode' sings.
Thank you - I was beginning to get worried that no one would mention Floyd. I think that Led Zeppelin never had anyone else sing other than Plant (in response to the one question of just one lead singer) and the same thing for the Cure. Let me see if I can think of some that have not been mentioned: My Bloody Valentine Blondie (at least one song) Blur (or maybe not?) Operation Ivy
I had some thoughts that the Kinks didn't belong on the list, but I remembered seeing Dave sing lead a few times in concert. Ray Davies normally sang lead, and a damned good job of it, to say the least.
DEVO--the revolution WAS televised--on MTV! also, 2 others already mentioned, but need repeating: Fugazi X
I don't consider a band where one member occasionally sang a song to have two "lead" singers. So, to me, the Stones and U2, etc. don't count. What's interesting to me is how the list of bands with multiple lead singers has more older bands than newer ones. Seems like Beatles and Fleetwood Mac-style lineups aren't really done anymore. Wonder why that is? It's an interesting question. p.s. Here's one that doesn't count but is an interesting case: Nirvana. Two skilled lead singers in that band, but one of them didn't really sing lead until he had his own band.
Nice list Deckard. Buffalo Springfield was a major spawning ground. Which reminds me of: The Byrds The Electric Prunes Jefferson Airplane Grateful Dead ...
I am a huge Kinks fan. Most of Dave's songs are kind of funny to me, because of his super high pitched vocals. Bernadette is a good example. I like those songs but mostly for entertainment value. But One of the Kinks best songs IMHO is 'Death Of A Clown' which is a Dave Davies sung number. I saw the Kinks in concert twice, both times in the 80's. I wasn't really around for much of the earlier shows which I would love to have seen. Have you read X-Ray(by Ray Davies)? I love the book, and there are some great stories. Some seem really bizarre like tension between Mike Love of the Beach Boys and Ray Davies. I also remember Dave Davies had his own book or at least a series of autobiagraphical magazine articles awhile back. There was a strange story that Dave told, about Ray 'selling' Dave to a gay music producer in exchange for using the producers luxury mansion for a week long vacation or something to that effect.
how about The Chipmunks?? sure alvin took the lead a lot...but there are more than enough times where theodore or simon stepped in to sing. i thought theo was underrated...mostly because that bratty-ass alvin always got the attention in his baggy gangsta-shirt and sideways cocked hat.
we have a winner, Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Richard Manuel have to be one of the best all time multiple lead singer combinations in modern times.. Gomez and Faithless are enjoyable
Again, singing lead on one b-side doesn't make you a "lead" singer. That could just be one drunken evening in a recording studio.
