My favorite band of this ilk is: L'Angelus, a family band that is more famous with another iteration of the lineup: Pelican 212. L'Angelus (think high energy Nickle Creek type band.)

They are high energy, but here is a seldom scene cover that will cut your heart out.

That doesn't make a lick of sense. Now, I know I can name on one hand songs by this band you've never heard of.

But instead, I'll just play their best: A tribute to Hillel Slovak.

Mother Earth, a truly excellent blues/rock band. Lead singer Tracy Nelson later became a thing In the country genre, but she was transcendent on stage with Mother Earth singing the blues. I saw them a few times in Houston and one memorable concert at Austin’s Vulcan Gas Company on Congress in August of 1969, a couple of weeks before the Texas International Pop Festival (we called it the Dallas Pop Festival - it was great). The Vulcan was a lot like Love Street on Allen’s Landing. Best known, like Love Street, as a psychedelic venue (the 13th Floor Elevators, etc.), they also had a lot of great blues, more than Love Street. Besides Mother Earth, I drove up from Houston to see Lightnin’ Hopkins, Muddy Waters, James Cotton, and Freddie King.

Mother Earth’s albums don’t do them justice. Tracy is best known for a great song she wrote called Down So Low. When she sang it, it made the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Funny the things you remember after so long. It didn’t hurt that she was a great looking chick with long, beautiful hair. The lead guitar player, Toad Andrews, owns Austin Ceiling Fans today on West 6th. We’ve purchased 4 of them! He sells restored antique ceiling fans, besides the usual Hunter’s and the like.

The things I’m doing to forget Sunday’s game.

Christ. Nobody wants to hear your crap music, old man. Find an 8 track and a van and live by the river.

Do something useful and shove that 8-track up your fat butt, dude. If you don’t like my posts, put me on ignore. You’ll be doing me a favor.

One of my favorite bands of all time is a band no one here has probably ever heard of. A bunch of uber-talented UNT 1 o'clock lab band vets. Kind of Frank Zappa meets James Brown.

From Denton, TX......I give you....Ten Hands.

Theyre obnoxiously loud, try to hard for attention, oblivious to the crowd theyre playing for, and ultimately are a one trick pony for being banned from festivals. THEY SUCK. HARD!
